  1. Prayer sent. Now go take care of business, get patched up and back on the water! Your fellow fisherman are rootin for ya! BBjr.
  2. Nick, I hope you ditched the circles and opted for the Octipusses. On the light biters I was easing the rod out of the holder, then waiting for a nice bend in 7' 6" downrigger rods then sweeping rather than hard hooksetting. I caught 2 of the larger ones that were playing with it like you'ld think it's a small one. You never know. Good luck out there. Jay, I'm thinking of trying staying at Norrie state park. Looks to be 2 miles south of Kingston. Do you know if the Bood worm program works that far north. My hunch is that it would.
  3. Nice job Kinger and Ed!
  4. Did you verify float hieght? This has a direct bearing on richness as well.
  5. I found some inexpensive 40# braid on Ebay called PEX. 1/2 price of PWR PRO to your door. The salt water guys use it. 40# is the same Dia as 50# PWR PRO. The salt water guys only complaint was color fade. Since the backing will rarely see water or UV I bought it for backing on 2 300 copper outfits. Won't know how it holds up for a few years. I have faith that it can withstand the abraision of being crushed under wire but I can't say that about mono. That would be a hard life for mono under wire. But thats just an opinion. The 1st diver/snub/SD/Fly will cover the $ of a 1000ft roll.
  6. We bobbed around for about 45min in a cluster gaggle trying to get off the water but it was worth it. Newburgh is well known for it's crime and the not so good side of town is right there. Here is a picture of our cluster gaggle.
  7. I want to do a week at The Oak sometime after 4Jul. May play it by ear and wait till last min. to ensure a good wx forecast. Will let you know.
  8. Skipper19. That is a great Idea. I'll bet they would sell country wide. They'd be as big of a hit as Billy the singing mounted buck and the singing catfish.
  9. It is obvious that the tilt is sold separately. Is the Protroll included? Thanks
  10. I know you are upset and I would be furious myself but please look at your approach. You are teaching impressionable young men to run, avoid, and basically give up. That is a loss of your freedom and pursuit of happiness. It is a win for the thieves and other criminals. I dislike the city and its crime. Did that stop us from going to Newburgh and launching in the Ghetto? Hell no! We caught fish of a life time. Did we do things differently? Heck ya. Every time we stopped at a store the other stood guard. We left nothing in sight. I think you should stand back and take a good look before you give up a place you love and enjoy and if in the end you still want to avoid and not fish there any more I feel sorry for your followers who will miss out. I do feel you are obligated to warn your followers and the general public of this criminal activity and support that, but not you approach to give up. I am sorry for your loss! MY 2 CENTS
  11. Nick, Thanks for sharing info as well! Sure hope you get into them. WX looks good. When Ray K. Called and told me to look for you I turned around and "Bamm" there was Waldo. Make sure you don't run over any of those inflatables down there.
  12. Nice job. To "THE KNAPPER" I feel for ya. Was a night shifter for 14yrs. You can't get a better alarm clock than a drag screamin.!!!!!
  13. Pap, I'm with you on the China crap. I only quickly looked at that link. I didn't see the manufacturer. I'm all for pulling the starter apart and checking it out.
  14. Just did the Stripers in the Hudson this last weekend. Check out my post here in this section. No racing building pole barn or starting to.
  15. Pull the starter apart and clean the brush blocks like Steve suggested. If you're leary that you will mess it up. This will squre your learning experience up for a mear $62. http://www.amazon.com/Starter-Outboard- ... B004WG8R44 The 2 long bolts that go all the way through it is all that holds it together. The armature may stick a little in thier bearings. I think if I could get a spare starter for $62 I might just buy one to have on the boat as a spare.
  16. 3 out of the 4 on my tandom trl have broken. Everytime I was fortunate that it rode along like a trailing arm or a reversed trailing arm. Ya it happens.
  17. I'd say you'll be there prime time. It was great for the next 2 weeks in Newburgh last year. They come in waves I am told and I'm sure there are many more waves to come. Bloods are $7/doz across the river at Vinnys.
  18. Nice Job Koot! Glad you are back in the saddle and doin business.
  19. It's great to see Kinger Boy and you out enjoying the water. I'm sure he was lovin it. As I was routing through one of my camping totes on the Striper fish trip this weekend, I found a dollar. It was a dollar Stanley threw in there for a block of ice or to make your guys final gut run last year on our big FairHaven trip. I remember telling him it was unnecessary but you know him, he insisted. Chocked me up really bad. I, as well as others look forward to your reports. WTG on the Brown Cous. If the simple things don't fix your starter problem, Steve says pull the starter, diassemble it and clean the brush block, brush holders, and comentator. He has had this problem on 2 Mercs. It's a design fault. The brushes are in the bottem pointing up and thier own carbon wear falls right down in the brush block/spring holders and causes tracking from the pos to the negs which is a large amperage draw. Clean them up with alcohol, or spray contact cleaner and a brush, reassemble and they will whirl like a crazy. The brushes are a bit tricky to hold back during reassembly but Steve has a method with 2 small pcs of sheetmetal to hold them back. This will give you a chance to inspect your brushes for wear and replace and also clean and lube the bendix. From what I hear OB starters are a bit pricey
  20. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):5-6 May Time on Water: Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 70plus Total Boated:approx. 60 Species Breakdown: Hot Lure: Worms Trolling Speed: tidal drift Down Speed: Boat Depth: Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Just had 3 nice days of Striper fishing on the Hudson. So relaxing, drift fishing calm water and trying to be quick on the draw to set hooks on the nibblers, then get some drag ripped from ocean run fish. Had a blast. Here are a few pics to share. Special thanks to Ray K. for introducing Steve and I to this fishery last year and thanks Steve for setting this trip up for us. THE SPREAD
  21. I painted mine flat black last year and did well with them. One good reason to paint them is that you will be handling them a bit and no need to be handleing bare lead with all we know nowadays. The is one guy that does well with bubblegum pink paint on his. We all know who that is!!!
  22. I'm pretty sure it depends on where in the lake you are fishing. In the more upscale areas ,pompous fish will snub their noses at spreads that are not in sync. Color coordination is important to them as well. Running spoons of different makes in these areas would be concidered a Fishing Fopa and only desparate fish would touch them. In the middle class areas of the lake you would still have quite a few Wanna Be upscale posers that would snub their noses but a large portion of the population would strike. In the lower class areas the ones really trying to get bigger would hit them, but for the most part, most of them would sit on bottom and wait till they get their EBT card, Then go fill up on frozen seafood at Wally World 1st of each month.
