Congrats Koot! That's 3 more rods in the water. He he he! I'm bumbed on the no snow deal as well. Got one 22mile run in on the sled before the 6 in of snow we got melted. It was just enough speed fix to tide me over till drag race season. One thing I noticed that a few people hammered salmon on in closer that is consistent with what Smaltcody said, is red stuff. I get a little hung up on my greens and blues and have never pulled out my red stuff. This year they'll get wet. Again congrats Poppa. Hope to run across you up at the Oak sometime this yr.

These are great boats for the economic situation we are in these days. I've got a 89 that I have had since 99 with an Evenrude 88HPspecial on it and will never part with it. I can trailer it and still get 15mpg, it fit's under the bridge at Tunkannic falls, Drains well in Feb. Very winter friendly. I have run 7 rod spreads with room for 2 more no prob. I've fished heavy seas all day when you only see one or 2 other boats on a labor day weekend. They are like a cork. I'm sure who ever purchases this boat will like it. Nice job. I had the privilege to shoot the .500 this year. What a sweet shooter. All 4 of my shots were in 4 in. circle, center of chest on a man target @35yds and that was the only time I ever shot that gun. I only shoot hanguns once a yr. Gotta have one WTG!!

I did a fresh one in the kitchen. Skinned.If you cut up some onions, celery, and put a bay leaf in, most visiters will just ask whats for supper. Of course the antlers sticking out of the pot gives it away. Still single here too!

Mark- That is what I like about Ashbys research. It is on Live or freshly killed big game rather than foam targets, 55gal drums, or concrete blocks. One thing Ashby does do, is that he actually proves Pauls finding of all the modern inefficient broadheads from ultralight setups burried in bone from accepted whitetail gear. 95% or more of hunters setups are below the bone penetrating threshold weight, with most of them having 1/2 the mechanical advantage they could have. Another interesting finding of his is the poorer penetration of the cut on contact, sleek 3 bladed broadheads.When I look at the 3 blade Montec, Snuffer, Slick trick,thunderhead,they all look so efficient but surprisingly they don't do so well. Even 4 bladed heads do better than the 3 blades. Until a decent # of hunters get out there and start showing results, not alot of people are going to give up their flat trajectories for experimentation. If I start plunking deer with the new setup, even if I have spot on shots, sooner or later I'll blow something out on the exit side of a quartering away shot to proof it. I have had 4 quartering away kills where My broadhead got hung up on the exit side shoulder and the arrows were broke off on the run. Those my become pass throughs as well. Last day tomarro time for bed..

I'm with you on the Samurai. I had chose that one as well. It does deviate from Ashbys best broadhead,"Mod Grizzly" in 2 ways. That's Mechanical advantage of the incline slope angle of the blade and the width. I was liking that extra width for the same reason I have always loved mini blaster3 1 3/4 cut. For extra hemerageing, but as you read all his research, the insured pass thru for an exit wound apears to win over for retrieval of the animal. I think I'll at least try to mod some grizzlys and see if they will fly. Steel Force has a traditional head that is not on thier web site. Can be got at 3 rRivers Archery. Won't know till you try. It's my understanding, if you tune your bow, use the proper spine, use a properly alligned head and helical vanes they will. I am at present shooting Magnas stingers at 302-311fps, 414grpkge spot on out of a Monster6. All I shoot during season for practice is my broadheads. They are right on. In the past I couldn't get broadheads to fly like my field points. My old bows had lots of shock, regular rests, "NON" Level string travel and my unwillingness to experiment $ with diff spine arrows. Also using full helical vanes. The Switchback and Monster both toss fixxed blades with nice goups to 55yds. I even screwed an old Bear razor back in and it held it's own "Though Low" out to 45 yds with the switchback. Monster didn't like it. Not enough spine

Mark, I admire your concern for preparing for the worst and a I can tell that you like to be knowledgable about the performance of your broadheads and arrows. I'm sure if you start reading Ashbys data, especially bone penetration, and broadhead performance, you'll start debunking alot of myths, accepted conceptions, and misinformation. Ashby's main premiss of bone penetration is right in line with your thinking. Bust the bone as you would with a chisel and resistence is relieved. Though his "Live Fire " tests prove the 2 blade, tanto tipped, single bevel sharpened, 3 to 1 sloped, broadhead to be the most efficient, and have blades left to hemerage vitals after bone penetration. Take a look.

This is my friend Steves 10pt. He has bow hunted for 10 yrs and never had any buck he wanted to shoot in range during archery. In PA you can only shoot one buck, so he would save his tag for gun season. He also saved his doe tags for gun season, as the rest of his family enjoy gun hunting together. This is his 1st deer period with a bow. Here's his story and BTW he is lucky to get on stand 3 times a year during archery. It was a spontanious hunt in the thick. Him and our mutual friend Emory worked there way into this thick area with a summit climber, quick cut a few openings and he was hunting. Before climbing up he went over to a trail that had a scrape on it and doctored it, and the lick branch with curiousity scent. While daydreaming in his stand he would say to himself,"Self, wouldn't it be great if a nice buck would come down that trail, and when it would go behind that thick spot I'd be able to draw and then when he comes out he'll hang up on my curiousity sent and I'll have a nice 15 yd shot". Well, after some blind grunting that is exactly what happened with just a little variation. Right before it went behind the brush the buck spotted him and played the I'll look down and then look back up at you game twice. Steve thought the game was over but the buck continued and completed the plan. Steve is long and lanky. I told Steve the buck decided he was just a branch.Steve was just about to blat him to a stop when Ol Mossy hung up on the scent and Steve double lunged him. He went about 120 yds. Steve doesn't even know the brand of broadheads he used as he bought them 10 yrs ago. By his discription I believe they were Rocket Steelheads. At any rate what a nice buck. I think his Taxidermous scored it at 134 green.

I never promoted any brands and didn't want my input to start a debate on brands. There is so much data in Ashbys findings that is relevent, that all bow hunters should take a look at this info and come away with what they can. I have never seen data with this much facts from broadhead, arrow, or bow manufacturers. My observation is this: Great improvements in combound bows and affordable carbon arrows all came on the seen at the same time. Everone begain to capitalize on both with super speeds and flat trajectories. Most hunter to hunter experiences over the past 10 years revolves around light arrows at fast speeds. The few that are utilizing todays bows for flinging heavy arrows are doing so on safaris and super big game and the average Joe is saying these are just deer not Elk or bear. As Ashby says ,"Why make your set up for when everything goes right, make it for when things go wrong". Such as hiting the shoulder web mistakenly. You do see arrows such as GT Kinetics, FMJ ect coming on line. They are leaning toward heavy. One thing cool about reading Ashbys findings is understanding How resistance to penetration is so much greater as speed increases and why kinetic energy or momentum comparisons between a light fast arrow to a heavy slow arrow of the same energy are not an apples to apples comparison. And Paul I don't expect 350fps with a 650gr arrow. I do hope to be above 250fps though. The "LIVE FIRE" tests indicate that will do the business on large bone.Keep in mind I will never purposely target a shoulder or back.

My suggestions were from a guy named Dr.Ashby who has dedicated years to the research of lethal killing of big game with bow and arrow. Paul, he has hundreds of facts about archery "live fires " to study and possibly sway some people toward heavy arrows with strong, effecient, fixxed blade broadheads that will get through the bone. My goal for next year is to follow his lead and see if I can live with the trajectory of a 650gr arrow. Of 17 deer I have killed, 15 of them were under 22yds. 2 were at 28. I think I can live with 2 pins out to 28 instead of 1. For the record, I'm 17 for 20. All 17 were killed with Miniblaster3s on a 360gr pkge. Of the 3 not recovered, 1 was a no penetration shot on a shoulder of a 2.5 yr old. The other 2 were out of kill zone. One was shoulder, one was backbone. The backbone guy was bumming because he had spined/killed 4 deer in the past with thunderheads and this was his 1st yr with rage and ol Mossy ran off with 28 in of arrow sticking out. He later killed one with perfect shot placement with the rage and loved the axe like entrance wound. I hope a few people take a look at his research, even if you still say I'm comfortable with my set up, there is so much amazing info there, I think any bowhunter who reads it will come away with some useful info. Lots of physics that I should have allready knew and did not. Maybe if they would have applied science to bow hunting in school, I would have payed attention!

Big bucks are outside the box 2 blade, Fixxed, 3 to 1 slope cut on contact tanto tip. single bevel ground blade "like a lawn mower but razor sharp" min. 650gr arrow package 22% of greater FOC use your modern technology compound bow closer to it's potential Why design your arrow set up for when everything goes right, set it up for when things go wrong. This set up is supposed to get through that bone when your off a touch. Is there anyone else out there who is aware of this field research? I dought I'm the only one.
