Got on the water around 6:15am, launched just south of Sheldrake and pounded fish!!! We fished from 65-95 foot, marked tons of bait all day and got some really nice fish... but not the one that would have taken money. All the fish came on spoons (except one salmon, flasher/ fly), mainly silver and bright colors, suttons, alpeana diamonds, and the old school ookie dookie jointed spoon, did the trick. We landed over 20 fish including, 2 browns, 5 or 6 salmon, 3 rainbows, and the rest lakers. All our rigs were catching fish, downriggers at various depths, dipsys out 175-275, copper out 300 ft, and a couple fish off our lead core that was on our big jon planners. We lost a monster laker at the boat early (definitely weighable) off the rigger, and we lost two other NICE fish... one broke the lead core no clue what it was, we only know that it was one heavy ass fish!! The other released our outside rigger and the hook pulled half way up. All an all its was a really fun day with a lot of good fish. We will definitely be back to Cayuga this weekend!

Ive seen these fleas come and go as the summer progresses, im not entirely sure what influences their patterns the most. i believe water temp is a big part, but water currents are an even stronger force. Fishing seneca lake and the prevailing western winds, i have found that the fleas get forced towards the east side of the lake, due to the winds. Also after a couple days of strong north winds the Watkins Glen area of the lake is loaded with them, and on the same day up by my cottage (mid-lake area) there wont be nearly as many. This is just an opinion based on my personal experience, but i really have no factual info!

Caught some good fish on both days, the fishing has slowed and im blaming that on the weather. We did catch a lot of small lakers, salmon, and browns. One brown was in the 6 pound range and was the biggest fish of the weekend. We also caught some more monster perch!! All the fish came off spoons on our riggers and dipsy setups. The flasher/ fly combo caught the big perch, both straight off bottom in 75 FOW. The fishing has been very strange... we are marking the same amount of bait (tons!) in the the same depth of water, but the fish just dont seem to wanna strike. We've tried trolling fast and slow, and all kinds of lures but nothing really is producing like it has been. We've been putting in some heavy hours on the lake.... we will troll for 6-8 hours straight and the fishing will be pretty much be non-productive, and then all of a sudden we will get 5 or 6 within 30 minutes. We mark our location and depth and try to remember what we the fish hit but it just shuts down for the next hours or so.... it drives me nuts, but like ive said before thats why they call fishing and not catching! This weekend we are taking the big boat up to Ontario. Has anyone been getting into the fish up there?

Thanks for the recipe... sounds great. Yeah now that you guys mentioned it that fish does look like a LL!! They look a lot alike, especially when you pull them from deep water. -
Another awesome late evening fish on ole' Seneca! We fished our same honey hole and landed 5 decent lakers, two small salmon, and three good browns!! The lakers hit our riggers in 75 FOW on spoons, the salmon both came on our dipsys (one off a sutton spoon, and the other hit a fire tiger challenger), the browns all came off our riggers down 65 foot in 65-95 FOW. The browns hit our top secret flasher fly combo (thanks lakebound!!) We also caught a huge perch off that same combo in 75 foot of water! ill post that pic tomorrow... Good luck fishing everyone! Hope this weekend ends up better than predicted This brown was the biggest and weighed just over 6 pounds!!

8/30 More HOTT Seneca lake fishing w/ some pics
LakerTaker85 replied to LakerTaker85's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
yes you are right the prevailing south west winds usually push the weeds onto our side, we motor to the west side and its a lot better. The fishing over there seems better also especially between Glenora point and starkey. I would label that spot our honey hole!!
