Got out after work today and fished for a few hours, we landed 7 fish all lakers and nothing over 25 inches. All the fish but one came off the copper rig. We fished north towards Lodi point in 75-95 FOW, the fish hit on all spoons silver and orange colors. I just started my new job in elmira, the drive sucks and its cutting into my fishing!!! We as fishermen deserve some sort of bail out from our very giving president, haha, i cant work for the rest of my life!

The weeds are hit an miss... i found that after these nice weekends the weeds tend to increase, i think its due to the boat traffic. -

Is this limited to Cayuga lake?? -
These are just some pics of my brother with some large fish caught right out of our home lake... This pike was caught in mid Feb (07) and tipped the scale at 20.5 pounds!! It was 41 inches long, we caught it on a perch colored rapala in 20 FOW. People tell me its on of the biggest pike caught out of Seneca lake, but i dont really no... This is a fresh water drum, my brother caught it back in 2004 on a brown jig (we were fishing for perch!) it weighed 14 point something pounds!!! It looks prehistoric... the picture quality is not the best, i had to scan it onto my computer but it is still an amazing fish!

Got out yesterday around 5:00pm, we started on the west side just north of Long point. We immediately marked good fish/ bait in 75-90 FOW and ran our usual set up, 2 dipsys w/ spoons, one rod per rigger (3) with two running spoons and one with our secret dodger fly combo! We also ran our copper back 250-275 ft with a black and purple spoon. The copper landed two nice lakers within the first ten minutes, the next hour or so was intense.... we had two doubles, one on the dipsy/ rigger, we landed a decent laker off the rigger but lost the dipsy fish (which seemed like a good one). The next double was on the riggers and we landed both which were two smaller lake trout. From five to 8:00 we landed about ten fish and lost a couple, most fish came on the riggers off the evil eye spoons and some NKs. Our last fish was a beautiful brown just over six pounds... this fish hit our silver evil eye with a orange strip across the middle 85 foot behind our ball which was down 65 foot over 70-75 FOW. Its amazing we landed the fish, it was tangled in just about every line we had out! We try to release all the fish we catch but this brown had some serious damage to its gills and eye so it went inot the cooler. The fishing is awesome on seneca! Ive been trying to get out 4-5x a week, and with just using simple techniques we are landing good numbers of fish in a short period time.

Where's the fish???

We will be back up there this weekend, i know the fish are there and one day is completely different from the next... What kind of weather (temps, wind, precipitation) should i be looking for that could bring the fish in and increase their activity? I have fished Ontario a lot in the past couple years but i still have a lot to learn. Any info would be great! -
Sat 8/28 Fished the afternoon from my cottage (caywood point) to lodi point. Had steady action the whole time 7 nice lakers on the riggers all on spoons, alpeana diamonds and evil eyes did the trick in bright colors (silver, orange, chartreuse) . The dipsys caught one nice LL on the chartreuse alpeana diamond (i love those spoons!!) It was absolutely beautiful this weekend but the weeds are getting on my nerves it make running any form of top line impossible!! Sun 8/29 Same direction but different set up... we added another cannon mag10 to our mix (total of three) and put on our planner mast and rocket launcher rod rack. Running the three electric cannons is awesome but can also be a hassle. We ended up running two rods on our outside riggers and one rod on the middle rigger all with spoons, two dipsys with flasher/ fly combos, and one copper rig. Caught fish on all set ups it was a good time out there. We trolled all the way to lodi point and caught fish every 10- 15 minutes. We ended up with ten or so medium sized lakers (all released) and lost a GIANT brownie right at the boat. The fish hit our rigger down 70 foot in 75 FOW, it hit the glow evil eye back 85 foot off the ball. My brother pulled it to the back of the boat and at first glimpse i could tell it was a big brown, it took off straight down and after a few minutes it was at the back of the boat again going crazy, eventually the hook pulled and i watched the ten pound+ brown trout swim back to its home!! All the fish and bait we marked was in 55-75 FOW and that's where we fished. Our riggers were down 55-65 foot and dipsys out 150-250 ft. Our copper was out about 250 ft with a six foot mono leader. The fish are loaded with alewife's and the hummingbird is marking an incredible amount of bait!! Seneca is at its peak right now and is full of life! Get out there and fish!!! The fishing is awesome on Seneca! i just love that lake... ERABBIT whats your boat?? i see that you fish out of Lodi point we have a cottage just a few miles south on Caywood Point, but we usually head north towards you guys.

Fished out of Sodus on 8/27... got on the water around 7:00 and noticed not many boats out there, we started in the 100-125 range with two riggers, two dipsys, and planner boards. We fished all day and covered some serious water with no results (except a sun-burned face!). The fish just seemed to disappear! I trolled and studied the graph for hours and nothing no bait no fish (thank god we had some cold beer!). We fish out to the 250-300 foot range and still no color on the Lowrance so we picked up and headed home. We planned on staying up there and fishing the weekend but with this weird water temp, calm waters, and sunny skies we decided to call it quits... i guess that's why they call it fishing not catching How did the other Sodus die hards make out?

Do you have any lookers on your boat?? And do you have any boats in mind? We caught some nice fish out of Sodus... we are headed back this weekend it should be good fishing. You in the LOC??

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: balls deep ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):8/21 Time on Water:6:30- 3:00 Weather/Temp: Overcast/ Mid 70s Wind Speed/Direction: south southeast 15-20 Waves: 2-3 ft Surface Temp: Location:sodus LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 7 Total Boated:4 Species Breakdown:2 cohos, 2 kings Hot Lure: Green/ white Spin doctor/ green atomik, Green glo mag NBK Trolling Speed:1.8-2.5 Down Speed: ... Boat Depth: 170-200 Lure Depth: 75-120 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Started off the day with our dipsy getting hammered (about 7:30am) by a nice king which ran about 150 yards and right under a neighboring boat, then broke us off after it got wrapped in the other guys riggers (our buddy rich none the less)! This fish hit on our dipsy rigged with a green and white spinny followed by a green atomik, back 325 ft on the 1.5 setting. About 25 minutes later our downrigger released and the fight was on! This fish felt like a monster and after about 12 minutes and 700 feet of mono he completely spooled us !! So after losing two BIG kings and a bunch of gear you could say our morning wasn't the best but at least we were on some fish . Throughout the morning we landed of few small cohos (both around 18 inches) and one small king ( 24 inches). These fish hit a green glo magnum NBK and our go to set up the green white spinny trailed by a green atomik. A couple hours later, around 2:00, the waves really started pounding us and we considered pulling up... then our rigger fired and i grabbed the rod. The fish felt heavy and i knew it was a decent king, after a couple awesome runs we netted the fish and it was an impressive 28 pound female king! This fish hit the green glo NBK, off our rigger down about 85 foot, we were in 200 fow, traveling west at 2.0 mph. All in all it was a good day in Sodus with some steady action. We used a lot of different fly combos and spoons but all the action was on anything GREEN/GLO/SILVER! We will see you next weekend Sodus!

which lake have trout in it?
LakerTaker85 replied to Deaf Fisherman's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
you can try a 1/2 oz - 1 oz jig head, just the plain round lead head in pretty much any color. i use a lot of different bodies all plastics in many colors, usually bright colors. ive also tryed bucktail jigs and other artificials but the plastics work the best(in my opinion). ive used large bass tubes and different minnow shaped bodies. the picture shows a very effective jig i use for lake trout. if your using electronics just mark bait balls or fish and set up right over top of them and let your bait free fall to the bottom, i bounce the bottom several times then real up as fast as i can (about 10-20 ft) then stop and give it a couple hard jigs. thats it ! the hardest part is feeling the bite due to the fact that your lure is down deep and the line tends to carry slack when jigging and falling. -
Ive also done quite a bit of jigging and watching the graph is the most important factor. ive found that jigging around bait balls is productive. when i jig i use 3/4 - 1 1/2 oz jigs (depending on depth and wind) and an assortment of plastic bodies including tubes, flukes, and fin-s (a plastic minnow body- its great) and i always use bright colors... white is my go too but chartreuse is also good. i use a med rod with a good bait caster, something with a faster retrieve. ive known john gaulke for years he is an excellent fishermen for all species but jigging for lakers is his specialty. his website is great and he will take you out on half or full day charters (he is very busy tho).

Good fishing Nick! We've have been doing really well on seneca lately, there is an insane amount of bait in the water... i think we met down at watkins in front of the park with all the anchored boats... i was with my brother, you showed us your boat and some techniques you prefer and you also told me about this site. All i can say is thanks this site is awesome and is filled with devoted fishermen who will gladly share their info. O and your secret weapon (that dodger fly combo) that you showed us has become our go too lure man, thanks again.

Got on the water around 5:30 pm, motored across the lake (to the westside) and fish just north of Starkey point. Picked up a three lakers on the copper biggest one around 22 inches. Fished until dark and lost three more on the riggers. We fished around 65-85 fow and marked an incredible amount of bait and fish. Spoons seemed to do the trick with fish hitting the alpena diamond in rainbow color, and also black, white, silver. A couple weeks ago it seemed like the trout and salmon wanted nothing but spinnys/ dodgers and flies, its amazing how their appetites can change so drastically!

Those are some nice fish! i was also fishing that day out of oswego, but our luck wasn't as good ... i was just wondering what size dipsy you are using? That stiff south wind made the fishing pretty difficult... did you happen to mark any bait out there?
