  1. ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8/13 Waves: 1 - 3+ Surface Temp: 71 Location: Straight N of bay =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 10 Total Boated: 9 Species Breakdown: Kings & Steelies Hot Lure: Glo Frog Down Speed: 2.0 - 2.2 Boat Depth: 400 - 600? Lure Depth: 100 - 125 ==================== Stopped in 400 FOW and dropped probe, found 54 degrees down100, so set up on a N troll. Boated 3 small Kings, lost temp so continued N. Waves subsided a bit mid day, was able to run a more consistent spread. Found a pocket of 42 - 48 degree water down 120 somewhere around 500, and set some way points where we saw bait & hooks. After running through them with Spiny/Fly, Dodger/fly, turned around and went back through the waypoints with all spoons and that got the rods moving. First was the 125 rigger, screaming out 600 Ft. of line off the rigger parked at 125 with glow frog SS spoon. Had to thumb the spool to stop his first of 2 big runs. Action was better in the afternoon, went on to boat 2 nice Steelies and 4 more medium Kings on riggers 110 & 125, and wire Mag dipsy, 3 setting out 200 - 250. All spoon bite, anything with green in it, all DW SS. Got a little bumpy just before the storm moved in, long ride back to port. Ghostly King just before hitting the smoker last night.
  2. My old Big Jon's are squalking with just 10 pounders. Can/should I get the probe one rebuilt or something? I think they are Capt. Paks.
  3. Welcome John. We go out of Sodus quite a bit, I believe the launch at the coast guard station is still closed, but the one off Rte. 14 near Margaretta Rd. is pretty good. Read the reports here on this site under South Shore relating to Sodus to keep up to speed with what is going on. Good luck.
  4. I heard that you can anchor and put a light shining into the water that attracts baitfish, which in turn will attract the game fish. Jigging or live bait fishing from there produces fish. Anyone else hear/try this?
  5. Wow, you are taking it a lot better than I would, I think every other word would be bleeped in my post if I had a day like that. BTW, we made our tie rod (Ez-Steer) float by putting one of those noodles meant for swimming on it. Works great.
  6. We tried that stunt too, wrapped the cable around the kicker enough to stall the motor. I sat on the 150 outboard, trying to unwrap it to no avail, pulled up 65 feet of coated cable by hand to retrieve the probe, but the torque of the motor had broken the "safety lead" to the weight and that was lost. Was pretty happy to see the probe come up though!
  7. Tried our luck in the LOU All tourney, fished from Taughannock to AES & back again. It was a slow pick, managed two LT at 7 lbs. each and one LL at 4 lbs. Both LT at 95 on the DR, with FF combos, the LL on the dipsy dragging a spoon around 40 ft. down. The weeds were a constant pain, but happy to see the fleas have subsided. Congrats to Chowder & TCON on the win and a good job putting that many quality fish in the boat under not so easy conditions. Wish we could have made it over to Myers to meet everyone, next year for sure. Thanks to Splitshot for putting it all together.
  8. Guys, this is my dads boat, and its an outboard, 150 Merc. Pulls pretty hard right when on plane too. We tipped the kicker up out of the water, but it did not change anything.
  9. Way to go guys! Fishing has been great, we probably saw you out there, as we were working the same water.
  10. Date(s): a few trips out of Sudus during the week Surface Temp: 71 Location: straight N of the bay =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Species Breakdown: Browns, Steelies & Kings Hot Lure: white/green FF Trolling Speed: 2.5 - 3.1 Down Speed: 1.9 - 2.25 Boat Depth: 175 - 275 Lure Depth: 50 - 100 Rented a cottage on the bay and got some fishing in between some mechanical issues and other mishaps. Found some BT in some warm water (68) ? - biggest was about 8 lbs. Later found some good temps out deeper and hit some small Kings. Mid week started the day with a double: 9lb. Steelie and 15 lb. King, set some way points and worked that area the rest of the week. White & Green FF did many kings just under 20 lbs. Best King was 23 lbs. on the dipsey and a Bloody Death spoon. Midnight special and 22nd spoons did damage as well. King 23 Sunset on Lady O We had a good time and the fish were very cooperative.
  11. Wow, great trip. Fishing has been hot indeed, we went out of Sodus and did not do the numbers you had, but all quality fish. Congrats on an awesome day!
  12. I use old manual downriggers, work great and easier to come by affordably.
  13. Sounds like you had a great day, congrats. Good job fighting those fish by the Mrs. I hope you let Ron net them all for you? I guess you found out that 8 lb. test is stronger than it looks, huh?
  14. He does not think there are currents under the surface? What is his side of the argument?
  15. Excellent job on those Lakers, and congrats on a great tourney to you and the crew.
  16. We only managed a couple Steelies off Sodus Sunday. One in tight on a stick, the other later on down 20 over 140 with a spoon.
  17. For us, depends on water clarity. If the water is clear, boards are a must. If we have some color, anyplace in the water is working. We were getting hits in the stained water before even hooking lines into releases. In the clear water, we used long leads and boards out 100+.
  18. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Skippers Trophy ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 4/22/11 Time on Water: 8 - 2 Weather/Temp: 40 -50 Wind Speed/Direction: 5 -10 NE Waves: <1 Surface Temp: 41 -43 Location: W of bay LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 9 Total Boated: 8 Species Breakdown: BT, RT, Salmon Hot Lure: Sticks Trolling Speed: 2.3 - 2.8 GPS Down Speed: 2.2 - 2.5 Boat Depth: 7 - 20 Lure Depth: 4 -15 Hard to keep lines in the water early, then the bite slowed down a bit. Around mid day something smashed the orange stickbait from the board and headed for deep water. After peeling almost 600 feet of line, we finally got lines cleared and chased it down. Took awhile to get it to the boat on 8 lb. test, but the Skipper did a great job on the net and we landed a nice 18 lb. King. Biggest brown was 8, also one Atlantic. Most active fish were in the stained 43 degree water.
  19. I remember as a kid in the late 70's fishing the lake and the Lampreys were so bad they would attach to the back of our boat. We would keep a rod rigged with a big treble to snatch them up and they went back in minus their head. Back then a 30 inch fish would weigh around 3 pounds. Are they still treating the streams?
  20. "Ummm, I think we're gonna need a bigger boat."
  21. Great fish Kevin, and thanks for the story.
  22. BB - That photo is not very good of the top of his head, but one of the marks is very symmetrical & round. It was also small so I believe a juvenile lamprey may have been confused as to where to latch on? BG - That ramp/dock/shallow water/rocks are fun to navigate arent they?
  23. I got ours from Dicks in Binghamton, but that photo is from EBAY, can order online.
