  1. First time out in some time and it was enjoyable as usual. Went 10 for 14 with a mix of Steel, Lakers, and juvenile Kings. Dropped in around 50fow to see temps and worked out to 100+ before down temp started looking good. About 53 on top and slowly dropping to 46ish, 70 down a bit beyond that 100fow mark. We worked 100-220, in and out this morning. Adjusted the riggers as we went, anywhere from 70-50 down, with cheaters. Dipsies 70-90 on setting 3, and full color cores. Every rod fired at some point, but the 70-60 rigger was most productive. DW superbread, DW orange tranny, MS carbon 14, SD White Nuclear and matching Atommik fly, MS Blue Knight, NK silver w/orange dots all took a fish or 2. Green was NOT the color today, at least for us. A solid day on my boat with 2 of us enjoying a calm lake. Tomorrow looks like a great day to go trolling...
  2. Finding the fish tonight was tough. When we did find them, it was getting late and time to go. Out with my son, who hasn't had an interest in fishing for a couple years. Maybe a new trend, I can only hope. We went 3 for 3(kings), and found all of them late in that nice green water west of the bay, 50-60fow. 5-7:30pm. 6 color core down the chute with a DW Orange Tranny, rigger at 45 with a Moonshine Carbon 14, and rigger at 30 with an NK purple Mag took 1 fish each. Divers with a mix of flashers/flies and sticks produced zippo. Temps up top were in the low 50's, and down were 46-47. Best downspeed was 2.8 on the FH. Good luck to all tomorrow! What a spring we have had so far.
  3. Looked bumpy out there yesterday. Nice job finding the fish?
  4. That pike is a beauty! I gave up on Braddocks a few years ago because of clarity and water level. Used to be my favorite bass and pike hole. Nice to know it's still productive. I certainly never hooked a 37"er!
  5. Group of 10?! Don't think that would even be enjoyable if it were possible. Like the above suggested, 2 boats. I have 2 suggestions of whom to use out of Rochester if you need it.
  6. You are 100% right about appreciation of electrics. I started with manuals using 10lb balls. When the bite is on in deep water, you are going to be working! I had 2 feet per turn units which helped a lot. Most manuals seem to be 1 foot per turn.
  7. In my opinion, 100' is not enough. Considering blowback on an 8lb ball, there could be times when you have 120 or more in the summer. Especially if you want to target lakers. Cable isnt expensive or hard to replace. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Awesome fish! Hope to some day hook one like that.
  9. NO. Apparently there is no catch and release season on the Larry with artificials, so catching them by any method means you must get it back in the water immediately.
  10. Ok, just read that article. Taking pics of bass during catch and release period IS legal. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Neither do I. Just checked the new reg highlights and didnt see anything there. I remember clearly reading a few years back that a photo was permissable but you needed to get the fish back in the water as soon as possible. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. I catch and release bass during this period when artificial is legal. I understand the regs state you need to release them as quickly as possible, but does that mean you can not take pics of them?! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. You must pick up their scent through the water. Unbelievable! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. Great report and awesome pics! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Thanks for another great report! Looks like a cold start to the day. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. The 2 things I would consider are having it as far forward as possible(while still providing shade), and height. I am 6ft, and can stand straight up underneath mine. Because I am one to stay active and standing the whole trip, this was a must. It is very uncomfortable to be hunched over standing the whole time. And the reason I mention position forward is because of dipsy rods. Because of those long leads, on a short boat it becomes difficult to bring the rod forward with a bimini support rod in the way. Gotta bring that rod forward so someone can net that fish.
  17. Yes, just prepare to lose their paint! And don't be surprised if you have one bend on you as well. Sorry to sound so negative, I just don't think the quality is there, and Kings are hard on baits. But they do catch fish. If I'm buying spoons for Kings, it's Warrior, Dreamweaver, NK, or Moonshines. Starting to warm up to Pro Kings as well. Patterns in Natural Born Killer/Slayer, Wonderbread/Superbread, Gator, Frog, some Dolphin patterns, Carbon 14, etc.. I don't have any favorite Steelhead spoons, just a lot of oranges and I catch them casting or trolling very large silver kastmasters. I also like Silver Streak spoons, but the paint just falls off after one good fish.
  18. That is a NICE morning run. And you mention boat traffic? After the past few days reports, I'm thinking tomorrow morning will have some "traffic". Surface temps fairly low out deeper?
  19. Really like their spoons. I run them nearly every trip out. Gonna get some backups in case they really are done. Will take them over stingers ANY day.
  20. Out from 4:30-8pm. Straight north to start on a fairly flat lake. Lines went in at 28fow, continuing north. Nice water out to the 60's, and that varied considerably. Lots of marks tonight and some fish that streaked up to baits. Still not seeing bait pods. Started with a slide diver 40 back, 76 out on a #4 setting(116), rigger at 40 with a slider, and 5 color core. All spoons. Took a bit to find biters, but they were all north of shipbuilders between 48 and 65. Took hits over and over just circling the area, in and out of some brown and green water. Eventually tired of the slide diver(although it took a hit) and dropped another rigger at 35 with a slider. 1 11lb king on the core, a personal best tiny king on the 40 rigger slider, and a 12 lb king on the 35 rigger. That skipper is the first I've boated this year. All others have been mature typical spring kings. Lost a nice screamer on the 35 rigger. Best spoon of the night was a purple NK mag, but an NK glow/green dots took the 12lber, and custom Warrior took the skipper. Freed one of those fish of a lamprey. First lamprey of the year! So technically I went 4 for 7 including it.

  22. I don't have anything to really add that hasn't been said, but, do a charter or hitch a ride with an experienced guy. I had a really positive experience with a Rochester charter 2 years ago that completely changed my approach. And we have some stellar Rochester charter captains. I'm still no expert, but I catch fish with consistency and understand better how to approach each varying day. Most important is not giving up. You will learn from every failure. Read the reports section. Details are everything. Some great guys that give detailed info, and probably for your area as well. A tool that lets you see down temp and speed is valuable in deeper water. If you do get one, you will be amazed by how different surface and down speeds are. I have found that gps speed is more accurate for down speed than surface speed is.
  23. Problem is not with false releases. Lake was flat and we saw all but one release. Definitely had fish on them, and one of them I had on for a good 10 seconds or so. Problem seemed to be the slack given for that brief period after the release, and the line falling back. The or releases are similar to the weldons but Im going to give them a try. Like Joe suggested, Im going to try sharpen some hooks and adjust where the line is placed in the pads. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. Until this season, I rarely used my big boards. I've been fairly successful with inline offshore boards, but they have their issues. So when I have someone out with me this year, we've been running big boards to have a full spread. Today we had a 5 color core on each side. They were hot, but we lost several fish. Of the ones we lost, most were gone before or shortly after grabbing the rod. I'm using offshore planer releases, that are adjustable by moving the spring. Seems those fish are gonzo between the actual release, and the time it takes for the line to gain tension from falling back. I have also been using ugly stik downrigger rods on my leadcore rods for a couple years now. Hasn't been an issue running them down the chute. But maybe not stiff enough off boards? Opinions or suggestions? Or maybe just one of those days?
  25. I haven't been marking fish like last year and was starting to think there may be something wrong with my transducer. Haven't once marked bait. Is this your first time out? Anyways, thanks for sharing details.
