  1. Like others have stated, I would stay away from stingers. Stopped buying them unless I couldnt find the pattern I wanted in another brand. Paint falls off and they are flimsy. A spoon shouldnt bend and warp when a fish is bouncing around in a net. I would recommend Warrior's. Very nice quality. Hooks, paint, patterns, etc. They do however have the cheesiest art on their packaging. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. I've only ever once purchased and used Sufix 10 color 27lb. Caught countless fish and never a problem.
  3. Best day I've ever experienced in terms of quantity, and happy that I could share that with my father and brother. We ended 15 for 21. 1 coho, 3 lakers, 5 Kings, & 6 steelhead. Out of the channel at 5:30 and setting lines over 100 fow. It took no time at all before we were reeling one after the other. Ran as far out as 220 fow, before the action slowed. Downspeed varied between 2.1-2.7, but best around 2.6 with an X4. Spread baits between surface to 40 feet down. Temps at the ball never below 47. Dad got the big fish of the day with a 9lb King off a Dipsy w/green double crush glow and matching Atommik fly back 74 on a 1.5 setting. We doubled once, and twice had 2 fish on the same line off riggers(cheaters). Probably because of the tiny size skipper Kings that didn't pop the releases. 4 color lead core with a Warrior Salmon Slammer custom was the winner again for most hits, but a 1 1/4 ounce plain silver Kastmaster was a surprising second place and a steelhead magnet. Tried something new today by putting out a casting spoon off each side of the boat on inline planers. The Kastmaster, and a 3/4 ounce gold/orange Krocodile. Both about 90 feet back from the inline planer. Not certain what depths they were getting to, but I would estimate 10-15 feet. Everything took fish today, except a yellow/green deep diving challenger stickbait. Not already mentioned DW SS frog, Warrior Glo Green Alewife, Yeck Blue/Green Dolphin, Warrior Triple Tail, and a Warrior NBS.
  4. Awesome! It really was gorgeous out there today. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. You are the man! That must have been one hell of a surprise at the net! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Out solo tonight for a quick 2 1/2 hr run. Was ok. Went 4 for 5. 2 steelhead, 1 fat laker, 1 skipper king. Seems strange catching lakers so high up, but had the same result on Sunday. Started setting lines at 100 and worked out to 190. Nothing. Marked loads of bait around the 30-20 foot range. Moved west and things picked up. 4 color leadcore with a Warrior Salmon Slammer custom spoon took 4 of the 5 hits. The 30 rigger with a orange/white/black NK 28 took one of the steelhead. Tried a dipsy with blue crush spin doctor and fly back 73 on a setting 2. No good. Tried flatlining a deep diving 3.5" gold/green challenger stickbait. Nothing there. All fish took trolling west or south from 190fow to 130 @2.4-2.6 downspeed with an X4. Pulled lines at 130. Big kings are temporarily MIA but I'm sure they'll be back soon.
  7. Just curious how many lines you had in the water? I ask because I only boated 4 tonight with 3 lines, and I wonder how bad I suck Nice job out there! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Those are a nice couple runs! I couldnt find big Kings either and spent too much time targeting the. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. Those are insane numbers. Congrats to you both. I struggled today trying to find anything deep. But like you, nearly all action came from leadcore.
  10. I wanted it simple so I was just running spoons. 20 back on the 40 down and 15 back on the 60 down. If I run flashers/spin doctors off the riggers, which is infrequent, no longer than 10-12 feet back or you can end up with some nasty tangles. Usually run spin doctors off dipsies. 11. That is too funny. Are you targeting them now? I love catching any fish that will smack a lure, including drum. I've never seen someone be so adept at catching just those.
  12. Thought maybe it could be usefull to someone in the future and post my results after changing plugs. Changed to R type NGK plugs and my unit is working flawlessly now. Thanks to a local marina mechanic and master baiter for their feedback, I was able to correct this. I'd love to mention the marina but unclear on the rules of doing so. They've been terrific for me time and time again.
  13. Installed my new FH X4 last week and had problems with it powering off or entering calibration screen. Changed engine plugs to R type and tonight it was perfect. Amazing how much I'm learning from it. Don't know how much it contributed to tonight's catch, but I wouldn't have maintained the surface speed that I was without knowing how slow it was below. Left the bay at 5:30 and straight north. Not a boat in sight tonight. Started setting lines at 80 fow continuing north. Dropped the probe line at 60 with a DW wonderbread(superbread). Other rigger with a DW 42nd at 40, and a 4 color leadcore with a Warrior Salmon Slammer custom. Trolled out to 110 with nothing happening. Marking fish at 30's or 80's. This was a trial run for the Fish Hawk so I wasn't too concerned with catching tonight. Had 48.7 degrees, 60 down over 110 fow. Turned around and then it got fast and furious. Maintained about 2.6 downspeed on a south troll. Wonderbread rigger popped first with an 11 lb King. Started setting rigger again and the leadcore rod shot down. Decent fish but it popped off halfway in. 40 rigger fired with a skipper king on the DW 42nd. Wonderbread rigger took a hit but only on for a few seconds. Another quick strike on the leadcore with the Warrior spoon but gone by the time I got to the rod. That was over 90 fow and nothing moved after that, or so I thought. Started pulling lines at 70 and found a tiny King on the 40 rigger. Don't care how good your releases are, this guy wasn't going to pop it. Marked a ton of bait pods from 80 fow to 60 fow. Down temp approx. 50.3 with a surface temp of 53.5 in that range. Alewives are still as thick as can be in the channel and upper part of the bay. Gulls are going to be obscenely large around here for awhile. Good luck to all this weekend!
  14. Wondering if this problem was ever resolved? Just installed an x4, and as it turns out, I have the same problem. Just replaced the plugs with resistor types but won't have an opportunity until later in the week to see if it eliminated the problem. Mine is a 97 Mercury 125hp. Had a difficult time figuring out which plugs to replace with. Had NGK bp8h-n-10. A local marina mechanic told me I needed NGK bpz8h-n-10 so I bought 4 from them @ $12.50 each. Hope he is right...
  15. Installed everything tonight. That triducer is obscenely large, and has 2 functions I already have with my current gear. Put it as far as I was willing to go from the bird transducer and as close to the center per the instructions. Screen is larger than I had expected. Not a bad thing. Hope to test within the next few. 16. I receive my x4 tomorrow and can't wait to run it on the lake. But I have to install it first. Anyone have any issues placing it within 8 inches of a humminbird 83/200khz ducer on their boat? At a different frequency, I can't understand why there would be an issue? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. I know Ill catch hell for saying so, but I use vanish exclusively for bass fishing. It's a casting line. Not a leader line. And they improved it within the past year or 2 so knot strength is no longer an issue. As for what I use for leader line, seaguar. And I only use 20lb test regardless of the application. Have retied some atommik flies with it and never had an issue. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. Appreciate the detailed report. That selection of spoons is a staple, imo. Rochester fishing IS awesome as proved by the number of reports. Get asked all the time if I ever fish out of -insert port here-? My only answer is why? Got everything I want right here. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. Ill second the humminbird 561. I use the 570 but they are comparable other than screen resolution. Can see everything I need for trolling purposes and bass fishing. Color would have been nice but is it really necessary? I use a seperate device for gps/chartplotting. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. HOLY **** and way to go on that steelie! I did a double take on that pic, and sure enough a steelhead. I'd be thrilled catching one half that size.
  21. Congrats on a good day. Seems everyone was having a good run out there. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. We headed out of the channel by 5:40, straight north, and started setting lines in 75fow. Spread baits from 20 to 55. First fish hit the leadcore, full 10 colors out, on a dw wonderbread. 7# king to start things out. Second king came on the same but put up a 40 minute fight. 21 lbs and my brothers biggest to date. At that point I took the hint and changed all spoons to white glow type. Mix of warrior and nk's. Took some hits on both riggers but both popped off. Leadcore hit again with a 16# king. Rigger popped again with the nk but nothing there. Dipsy got smashed 120feet setting 3(I use braid). 8lb king on warrior glow spoon. Worked from 70 to 100fow but parked everything from 45 to 55 once there was a pattern. Awesome morning for us and back in at 10:30 Cant figure out pics yet. 23. Nice run for sure going solo. Gives me some hope for tomorrow. Feel stupid asking, but the third fish down is a Steelie?
  24. And I dont think this water will be clearing up by the weekend. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
