agreed with both of BS and captain larry. If you would like to target bass pre-esox opener you would be better off going to a lake like honeoye or somewhere with bass and no pike then this wouldnt be an issue.
-
Theyve already sampled some nice hybrids out of onondaga already and a lot of bass guys will get some 15-20lbsers in the river inlet and surrounding areas. I plan on putting in some time on that area this summer. Seneca would be great but it would take so long to develop into a fishery. I still believe Conesus would be a good lake to start with.

speaking of NY being entirely a trout lake the 2011 stocking lists are up...trout everywhere. They put pure strain into a bunch of random places too like olean creek, bear lake, and conewango creek? I know of bear lake but why the creeks? Is that just because they had no where else to put them and didnt feel like driving anywhere?? If they combined the number of 8-10" fish they stocked into those random places and stocked them into a productive body of water wed have 1 more pure strain lake to fish right there. Maybe we might not need to necessarily pay for fish but instead pay for the transportation of them from Pendergast out here. Also interesting to note they put 10,000 Tigers into Onondaga. Theyve been pumping them into the seneca for a bit but most of them wind up in places like onondaga anyways. It may be polluted as hell still but it is a very productive lake and they'll be able to grow big in there and throughout the river. I plan on putting some time in on the river this summer to try it out.

we got out there on closing day and it was really low...not too bad since my boat isnt too deep of a hull but anything with a deep hull with be almost impossible to launch if it stays like that unless your trailer tongue is extended by about 6 feet haha

tcon youre right I had it flipped in my head! My bad
-
I bet the water levels will be up by then dont you think? It couldnt be worse than last year when most of the lakes remained closed for the opener due to such low waters
-
A little over a month away now! Wheres everyone going to be for it? Im thinking of trying Otisco this year for opener rather than Conesus....big tigers in conesus but also lots of little pike that like to get in the way.

....and so it TIGER season Joe, lets not forget where our priorities lay

2nd Chautauqua Tourney?
Ronix 51 replied to mostlymuskies's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
Larry Id be all for either date. The water temps are something to consider though as the other guys have mentioned already. I still say we all put together a fall tournement. I, as well as everyone else who posted already, would be perfectly fine with donating money to have even just a make-shift gathering/tourney! Other than grilled hot dogs we could all bring food items and beers for afterwards and that would be a blast I liked the fall tourney a lot last season (even though the june tourney felt just like fall weather). Lets get it in the works! -

I think itd be a cool idea too to have a sort of make-shift swap meet as well like they do at the other events and have some vendors from the northeast come as well. -

New PureBred Muskie Lake
Ronix 51 replied to mostlymuskies's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
my money would be on that it was a tiger...they stock them in cross but they also put 7,000 in the seneca river region by the montezuma area but then again it could have been a pure -

I too believe conesus would be ideal...those alewives may be smaller than great lakes alewife but that are loaded with fat which = big fish. How would they regulate the seasons though? youve got people fishing for northerns through the ice what happens if theyre are a bunch taken on tipups? and then theres the spring, how can they stop guys from going out to get pures by "targeting pike?" -

how long after stocking the lake would it take to see any result? by result i dont mean 50+inch behemoths I mean mid 30s-40s fish. Would cayuga make just as ideal a lake for them? -

seneca is big and cold, how long would it take for muskies to become established in numbers where it would be worth it to target them? theyd grow big with that cooler water but i feel like it wouldnt be until 7-8 years after stocking began where it would be a decent population of MAYBE upper 30's fish...whereas conesus theyd grow fast with all the alewife but itd get hit real hard since its so centrally located not to mention how would they regulate it during A.) ice fishing when guys can set tip ups for pike/tigers and B.) during the spring when pike opens over a month before muskie does? -

Larry, other than conesus what are waters in the rochester/Central NY area would be suitable for pures? it would be nice to have some more muskie waters to hit in this area -

NIce! what do they have to eat in there besides panfish? Conesus would be a good spot considering all the alewife in there for them to fatten up on not to mention itd be cool to see if they ran the inlet in may/late may! some nice potential natural reproduction and for a point there would be big pike, big tigers, and some nice pures as well. legit! how would the right people have to be persuaded in order to realistically have something like that be considered? -
Hey Larry I sent you an email about some muskie stocking records info for my senior thesis just wanted to let you know incase you check on here before you check your email. Thanks!
