Will be in Olcott ..next week.. I never fished the big O in the spring. And since i do not have planer boards. What can i use from my nornal summer/fall set up? I didnt know if my small orange spin doctors with a fly? Spoons... And help on colors..would be greatly appreciated. I figured i will need to long line everything. It an omc sterndrive. Im think its the oil plug seals... On further inspection.. took a couple off.. and they fell into coupke of pieces..so i replaced them..and will try it out later.

Had the bearings replaced last year... Ran the boat one week.. went to drain oil... brownish white..not good.. so i changed all oil.. lowrr and upper units.. now i went and changed all drain plug seals.. hoping that is the problem.. Question..since i changed the oil.. is it ok yo run the boat... then recheck the oil...or will it hurt the i/o more?

I will be heading to Olcott in the morning.. fishing all week... If i find them ill let you all know... Boat name.....Show me your bobbers too.....

Thanks for the info... Just trying to figure everything out... Spent two years fishing two crank downriggers.... Then last two years i added a dispy pole of each side... Then this year i had enough hand cranking downriggers ..bought electrics. I figure maybe run all ..but just wanted to check with others who are doing it... or have done it.... Be safe everyone.... I have set up my boat... i can use 4 downriggers and 2 dipsy.. or should i just run 2 of each... Just looking for feedback... i know sometimes less is more..but i dont know...

I know you look for 46 degree water but how do you setup your rods do you go every from that point every five feet up. Make a V pattern..

Thanks. I pulled the plug and started to drain the upper gear case..it was straight oil..black as all get out..so now im wondering..if the mechanic knows what he is doing

Im trying to get the boat ready.. But i couldnt get the mechanic to work on it.so im trying to do it myself. Anyone know upper gear case, is it 80w90? Or 30w. I know the lower gear case is 80w90. Didnt know if the same... Look om internet...seen people say both.. Not sure what is correct.. Please help.. Wanting to go boating/fishing next weekend

I just wondered do you all run swivels on the snubber and then down at spin doctor? I.e. on both ends of the 5-6 ft line between? Also i fish out of Olcott, ny. I am looking for a mechanic to work on a OMC sterndrive. If anyone can recommend one around the area..i would really appreciate it.. I going to put it on the boat this weekend.. cannot afford a fish hawk right now.. thought I would try it out.. anyone used one of these before? Hello all. I would like to try trolling for salmon..I can remcharter going to olcott, ny on a charter, but that was a long time ago. I bought a little 18 1/2 ft boat. I put 2 downriggers on it .. and have 2 poles set with dipsey divers. Downrigger pole set with 30 # line. Dipsey set with 30# braid. Can I use this set up in May? I don't plan on going out very far.
