I am pretty sure i have an alpha one out-drive on my boat.I was woudering if i could replace it with a alpha one generation 2 out drive.I know that i can put an upper and a lower from each together, but if i put an upper and lower generation 2 will it work in place of the alpha one that i have??? Thanks Matt -JAKEY BABY-

I have been watching some videos of the Pro Ams and such here on the internet. I have been noticing that when the fish hits the rigger rods, guys are reeling up to the fish before they are pulling the rod out of the rod holder. Is this a good tactic?? Right now when my rods go off i pick the rod up and reel to the fish then begin the fight.I do pretty well like this but should i try the other way???Any suggestions would be apprecited!!Thank You Matt -Jakey Baby-

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Jakey Baby ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7/7 Time on Water:4:30-9:00pm Weather/Temp:: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: Total Boated: Species Breakdown: Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: Down Speed: Boat Depth: Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Sorry for the late report but have been busy. Hit the lake thursday afternoon and had one heck of a night!!!Two buddy's and i could not keep all lines in the water at once. We finally gave up trying to run all 6 rods and stuck with 5.The two dipsy set up's we had out were on fire. WE went something like 8 or 9 for 12 on just the dipsys alone. It seemed like the ones that got away were the better fish.We did many teenagers in the 10-14 pound range. Riggers were good to with the 42nd spoon being the best spoon.I would suggest runing as many spin doctors as possable. They took most are fish.Dipsys were back 250ft with 50lb braid, riggers down 60 - 95 were all good. Also 180 fow was the place to be.Cant wait till the mourning. Good Luck To All!!! New to salmon- Need help with set up
JakeyBaby replied to dasmantle's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
What you really need to be succesfull is time. Experience is everything. I use 20lb mono with flouro leaders. Both spoons and spin doctors work well. Sometimes one will be better the other, and sometimes they bothe can be hot.Lead core can work really well also. Matt -jakey baby- -
Fly suggestions for chinooks/kings
JakeyBaby replied to TyeeTanic's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Fly's work great. I like to run them off spin doctors. Also i really like to run that set up off of a dipsy diver. It kills the kings and the kings kill them. There is nothing like a big king hiting that set up.When running this make sure the distance between the dipsey and the end of the fly is not much longer then your rod. If it is it can be a pain trying to land fish.Run your fly any where from 15-23 inhes off your spin doctor. You can also run this set up off a downrigger, you only need a 10-15ft lead off you ball. The deep you then these all depends on where the fish are!!Try the fly by the name of "NO-SEE-UM" it is a good one.One other tip is to try and match the color of the fly and spin doctor the best you can. In some cases that is what it takes to trigger those fish.Hope this helps, Good Luck!! Matt -Jakey Baby- -

spin doctors making a mess
JakeyBaby replied to JakeyBaby's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
That is what i wanted to do at first, but i have a bait box dead center of the back boat. That leaving me no place to mount in the middle.I will just have to try and find longer booms for the to riggers closest to the front of the boat. Thanks for all the info matt -Jakey Baby- -
Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Jakey Baby ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):6/22 Time on Water:4:30-9:00 Weather/Temp:FOG Wind Speed/Direction:NE Waves: 1-2 Surface Temp: low 50's Location:sandy creek LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 11 Total Boated:9 Species Breakdown:king, coho, lake trout Hot Lure: NBK Trolling Speed: 2.25-2.5 Down Speed: SAME Boat Depth: 80-220 Lure Depth: 78-30 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Hit the water at about 4:30 pm with some very heavy fog over the lake.Visability was about 100 feet for the whole trip. Set up in 80fow and headed west to find no marks of bait or fish and very cold water. With nothing happening turned to the north and began tohead out.Picked first fish about in 100 fow down 50 on the rigger wich was a lake trout. I stayed heading north and picked up another LT on the dipsey s/d fly combo back 215 feet. Then finally when we hit 160fow water we took our first king on the lead core down 30 feet. That came on a home made orange and chartruse spoon(no name yet but im sure we'll find one).We picked up another king shortley after on an NBK green /black down 78 on the rigger in about 200fow. This telling me the fish were scatered with the cold water.Only marked two bait pods high and one fish all night.Turned back to the south and picked two more small kings a coho and one more LT at all different depths. So all in all 8 fish boated on a evening that you couldnt see 100 foot in front of you not a bad night!!!Good Luck to all!! spin doctors making a mess
JakeyBaby replied to JakeyBaby's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
To answer both responses at the same time i run the s/d back 10 - 15 feet off the ball. I run two riggers straight off the back , one that has my probe so i dont run much off that rigger all that much, if any thing a spoon that i plan on keeping in the water for a while to try and prevent wear on my sub-troll cable. The other two i run at a 90 off each side.So it sounds like i need to try and find some longer booms with mine only being 3ft fixed. One other ? i have is about stacking my lines with out having the same problem i have with the s/d. I've yet to try it in fear of making a miserable mess but i would like to if nothing would be bothered by it . Also my beam is only 7-7.5.Thanks for the help and if any more input please share i would appreciate it very much!! Matt -Jakey Baby- -
I just added 2 more riggers to my boat to make 4. i am having problams when running a spin doctor. It is catching the other lines of the rigger on the same side of boat. Could it be the strong current i had or am i doing something wrong??The same thing seems to be happening once and a while when picking up DINKS. Anyone have a clue? my only guess could be that i need longer booms on my back riggers that are 36"??? Thanks ALOT Matt -Jakey Baby-
