If your boat is cable steer it will work fine. My boat is a 24ft fiberglass (much heavier) and my Raymarine Sport Pilot works flawlessly. Sport Pilot is no longer available but there is a unit still available that they replaced it with.

If it's a helm mount unit, they are very easy to install.

I went to Pittsford Lumber to get mine a 4x8x1/4 was $81.55. They also carry West Systems Epoxy Resins and Hardener and fillers there also. IMO the best stuff out and very easy to use. Unfortunately i have to go back tomarrow to buy more west system, I used more then I thought I would on my project which has been a royal pain in A$$ to this point. Gota love it to stick with it!

The problem I have with it is there being constant power to the unit. God forbid you for get to turn off the unit for some reason and leave it for a few days and water enters the bilge and the pumps don't run you are screwed because the battery's are dead! I do this because when I 1st installed my auto pilot I had it ran directly to the battery wthout a switch in line to kill the power, if you shut the bettery switch off then tuned it back on the unit would kick back on but the screen never showed any indication that there was power. This would leave my batteries damn near dead over night. I agree with an in line fuse you take the frying risk out of the equation. The only thing that is directly to the battery's on my boat are the bilge pumps.

Me personally would NEVER run straight to starting battery or any other battery for the matter. I would definitely go to bus bar with a fuse. That way you don't fry the unit if something hiccups, if you hook directly to a battery the unit will have constant power and you don't want that. #2 you should be reading 14v at the unit if proper power is available. Sounds to me like maybe your battery could be in its way out, it's not charging properly or something is drawing pretty hard. Still not sure why the fish finder is doing what it is, even at 11-12V it shouldn't blank out.

Well I decided to go with marine plywood instead of a plastic replacement. Next question I have has to deal with non skid paint. Anyone ever lay non skid down on fiberglass? Kiwigrip seems to be a great product but very expensive $50 for a liter which will cover Roughly 20 sq ft. Plus $25 for the roller. 20 sq ft really not that much coverage giving it's only 4ft x 5 ft. Anyone ever use Kiwigrip or any other products?

Look up West Systems G-Flex. Perfect for rivet repairs.

Called a local plastic company and talked to a guy there about getting a sheet of poly to core the harches with rather then wood. He told me he has material at his house that would work for what I need and he would cut it to size for me at half the cost retail! Pretty neat deal and I won't have to worry about rot in the hatches dwn the road. Anyone ever use the plastic instead of wood? Does epoxies and resins stick properly?

Power Pro works fine untill the fleas show up, after that it's a nightmare removing them from the braid. Wire is much easier to remove the fleas, just reel up to the tip and most fall right off. You will need to add twilly tips to your diver rods to prevent the ss wire from cutting into the eyes.

That's the thing I was considering replacement of the lenses because I sent the to Costa in Daytona Beach a weak and a half ago for warranty work. The nose bad came apart from the frame. They charged me $12 for the repair plus shipping. Wouldn't you think that if something happened to a product under warranty that is it would be free to fix? I'm not complaining about the money I spent to fix them, just a point. If you spend $250 on a pair of sunglasses you would think maybe they would stand behind there life time warranty a little stronger. Believe me to theese glassed were not mistreated one bit what so ever Givin the price I paid for them! Little rant done, on the other hand I do absolutely love my Coatas!

Looks like I made a mistake when I said they are plastic. They are 400G which is glass.
