Does anyone use/know if the Traxstech Ball Retriever will work with Scotty 1116 downriggers? My concern is whether or not there is enough clearance for the stopper beads to fit through. Thanks in advance. Dave

Mexico fishing report
cuz replied to Logger Gen II's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Just got off the lake in Mexico. Had 3 kids between the ages of 6-11 and it was a little too bumpy for them. Tried to hold out as the lake was starting to settle, but didnt want to ruin their experience. We did have some good marks in 120fow tight to the bottom in front of catfish. Temp was waaaaayyyy down, 105 down over 120 was 48 degrees. Pretty much 75 degrees from surface to 85 down. Back at them tomorrow morning. Sent from my SM-G975U using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Heading up early enough tomorrow to hopefully hit a night bite. I'll be sure to post, good or bad. I know this time of year guys are tight-lipped with all the tournaments and impending fall derby, but I have no problem sharing any info to help others out, that's why we're here. Hey Hachimo, what depth were you running your riggers/dipsy's at? We were up the same two weekends as you, but stayed in tight, 10-20 fow, and did well with the browns. Coming up Thursday-Sunday and was thinking of sliding out a little deeper. As of now the lake looks like it's going to cooperate(Friday may be bumpy). -
Struggling at Mexico Pt & Oswego
cuz replied to wallychaser's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Hey Hachimo, I'm the guy from South Caanan that spoke to you Saturday evening at the dock. Sounds like you had a good weekend. We went out of Oswego Sunday morning and ended up putting some decent browns in the boat. We didn't tangle with any kings, but the browns kept us busy. I read your post about riggers being hot, then suddenly dying on you but the dipsies start firing. Keep in mind that with all the boat traffic, it will make the fish shy away from the boat, hence the dipsies become more productive because they are down and out from the boat. Lengthening the distance off the ball may help to keep the riggers firing for you when fish start to shy away due to boat traffic or high sun. -
Usually the biggest issue in the spring is floating debris, especially when motoring out in the morning.

Out of Mexico 5/6/18
cuz replied to trbean's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Nice job! Good to see some salmon around, hopefully its a sign of another great year in the Mexico area. -
Launched out of Mexico around 10:30 Saturday morning and headed west, setting up at the "A" frame. Didn't move a rod until we got a little West of the plant. Water temp prior to the plant was 42-44 degrees in the 15-20 fow range. Once we got west of the plant, water temp jumped to 53-55 degrees in 20-30 fow and the fishing turned on. Ended up 5 for 8, with one cookie cutter and 4 quality browns. 3 fish came off the riggers on spoons, 2 off the boards on sticks. Anything green uv or glow seemed to be our best baits. Turned out to be a pretty good shakedown run for us. Hope the fishing continues to be good throughout the Eastern basin this year.

Everything that has been posted is absolutely true, however, the weather can also change. One thing I've learned during my 15+ years is that Lake Ontario is a fickle lady. She can go fro dead calm to nasty in very little time, and vice versa. Also, it is difficult to predict the weather/waves accurately several day out. Don't give up hope, but a backup plan is never a bad idea either! Good luck if you get out.

Mexico Bay browns 4-1
cuz replied to John Kelley's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Thanks for the report! Great catch! Heading up this weekend. Saturday is looking like a camp work day due to wind forecast, but Sunday looks promising. Would you say you had more action off the boards or on the riggers? I know typically the boards out produce the riggers this time of year. Just wondering. Thanks in advance. -
Be aware guys, the low life's are at it again at the upper fly zone parking lot. Had a rod/reel jacked from the back of the truck. They pryed open the tonneau cover and grabbed an LL BEAN rod with an Orvis reel. Guess it could of been worse, there were 3 other rods back there. They must of gotten spooked. We wouldn't be as pissed about it, but the combo belong to a friend of ours who has since passed away. Kinda sucks, and stings a bit. Two years ago they stole a soft sided cooler out of our truck. Pretty disappointing that nothing seems to be getting done about the rash of thefts in that area. We've learned our lesson. We will no longer keep anything in the truck. If we break a rod/reel, we'll head back to camp and get a replacement. Be aware guys, there are people out there who apparently need fishing gear and will stop at no means to get it. I know this isn't a fishing report, but thought I'd send out a congrats to the Endwell little league team on winning the Little League World Series. What an awesome run, didn't loss a game all year. With the proximity of Endwell (just west of Binghamton ) to the lake, figure they may be some people out there who may know these young players. It's an amazing accomplishment! Started fishing the Erie tribs back in the mid 90's while in college(Go Fightin' Scots!) and still make annual trek West to fish for some crome. Can probably count on two hands the number of pinks, ho's, and atlantics I've seen. If I'm not mistaken, PAFBC attempted to stock salmon in the larger Erie tribs but the fish never really took. The streams there are completely rain dependant. Sent from my SM-G900V using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Fished Saturday from 6am-2pm, put one small king in the boat off the rigger. Fished from 20 fow out to 300 fow, best screen was in the 90-115 range in front of the plant. Sunday set up in 80 fow of water in the same location. Managed a cookie cutter brown on 10 color leadcore. Very slow, seems like mid-June transition is already here. -
Pulled the first tick of the season off my daughter yesterday, and had two more climbing on me. Going to be a rough year, especially for spring gobbler season. Looks like I should get a few opossums!

Mexico 4/30-5/1 weekend?
cuz replied to bassman69767's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Should be good through the month of May into early June. All of this is dependent on weather/wind, but fish are always around. May have to move out into deeper water, but they are there. Search for temp break/ mud line. -
Mexico 4/25-4/26
cuz replied to cuz's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Most of our action came with a surface temp between 45 and 48. Didn't run the probe, only in 8 fow. -
Fished Saturday morning, set up at "A" frame on a west troll is 5-8 fow. Had a pretty nice mud line set up. Had first rod fire while still setting up, nice little cromer to start the morning. Typically that's not a good sign for us, but turned out to be a pretty good day. Ended up 8 for 14, with a mix of browns and steelhead, with one nice 5 lb smallie(released of course!). Most fish coming off the boards on anything with orange in it. Rattlin Rogue smithwick in smoke/orange was definately our best producer. Took one fish off the rigger on a purple glow frog stinger. Numbers would have been better, but had some problems with our clips on the boards. Time to get rid of the old "alligator" clips! Sunday morning the mud line was gone. Started in the same area on a west troll in 8-10 fow. Hit a few cookie cutter browns, then decided to run down to the high rocks. Came back on an east troll and did a little better, but dealt with more boat traffic. Ended the morning bringing 7 browns to the net, dropping a few behing the boat. Ran the same program as Saturday. Overall a good weekend for our "shakedown" trip.

Sailflow is pretty good, along with the ones mentioned above.
