The albright works great with copper and braid too... Try it!! Just make sure you get at least 7 raps around when tying them together... To me the swivels just ask for trouble.... Mike Sent from my SCH-I535 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

To me it seems like a bit extra work especially when on board a boat during tournament time to tie the willis when I have never had an albright untie on me..You don't have to strip the lead out when you tie an albright and take the time to thread it up into the fabric of the core.. I have heard and see that companys make glue for putting together knots but why use it when you don't need it?? Keep them coming I wanna hear the pros and cons of these knots.. Ok have always used albright knot for connecting lines together but saw a different knot tonight I have never seen and it looks like a good one to but seems like it may slip to me with a decent fish onboard.... Guys let me know the pros and cons if there is any or is this just a preference thing once again???? Always open minded to try different knots and techniques. . Setting up leadcore rod
Iron Duke replied to Lakertaker187's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Yeah it will be fine.... just give yourself a bit of backing and then if you ever want to you can run it off an inline board off the side.... I like a 30 ft piece of 14 lb fluorocarbon for my liter... if you go to Ontario up your liter poundage but in the finger lakes the stealthier the better... Setting up leadcore rod
Iron Duke replied to Lakertaker187's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
The rod and reel setup you have will work fine ... I run the 18 pound leadcore works fine and this sink rate does not vary from 18 pound to 27 pound... Sk8man described everything right but instead of your swivels to connect it all together just use an albright knot ( lots of videos on youtube on how to tie them) its more economical in the long run and you don't have to pull any lead out of the core to tie it.... I have found with the swivels in the past they get hung up in the level wind or tip of rod when letting it out and reeling it in .... Give that knot a try ... One of the best knots I have ever learned and use it more often then you think for connecting all your different cores coppers monos braids and fluros together.... Mike -
Wind is blowing a bit here now but lake wasn't looking to bad. .. I will be out also in the morning hoping this cold front hasn't shut them off... Mike Sent from my SCH-I535 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I know the first owners of that boat very well and to bad the boat couldn't talk to ya cause it could really teach you about trolling the finger lakes ( its seen its fair share of trout slapped on its deck already). ... All the guys that have commented already know alot about trolling to so take that all in and give it a try. .. I would suggest starting out with a couple wire dipsys rods and running flasher and flys or spoons build some confidence and go from there... The original owners of your boat liked it so much bought another Arima just a bit bigger.... And if it helps make a decision on the name their new boat is also Called Skippin School III.... Here's a pic of there newer one.... Mike Sent from my SCH-I535 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Fished out of Watkins with Joe , B Fuller and his son hoping to get into some of the same fishing we had last weekend.. We ran cores coppers dipsys and riggers.. We set up in the south end and fished north fishing for quite a bit before getting into a few fish. ... Fishing was definitely slow today, think this front shut them down.... We did a few Landlocks and Bows and let Bobbys son handle them all.... We tried to locate some active fish but lake got rough and decided to call it a day... Went 8 for 9 all salmon and bows .. All fish came on riggers cores and coppers all Bobbys special spoons he painted up for me to run... Thanks again Bob for the spoons and all the hard work and commitment you put into all your lures.... Mike Sent from my SCH-I535 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Okuma Coldwater vs the Cabela's DepthMaster
Iron Duke replied to Jäger-Eye's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Have 6 cold water reels that I run my small coppers and cores off of they work great no problems here ... But if your looking to run wire I would def recommend the teckota 600 ... Mike Sent from my SCH-I535 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Well we were leaving the slip out of Watkins when a thunderstorm was aproaching as we could hear in the distance... Checked out the radar on my phone and instantly turned around and went back to the dock and batten down the hatches....It was one of the best lightning shows I believe I have ever seen and the rain came down in buckets for a good hour.... The guys from Hills Valleys and Streams in Elmira ny were troopers tho waiting it out with me til 830 ish and we headed out.... There was quite a bit of debris in the South end already so went a bit north looking for some cleaner water... Set up shop running cores coppers dipsys and riggers.... Well after that huge storm front was thinking it would have messed the fishing up a bit but I was wrong.... We started off instantly with a nice Salmon on the 231 dipsy, boys where fired up after that beauty and we get set back up and not 5 minutes later 12 color core going back quick give that one to Chris and turn to get the net and 300 copper goes peeling drag and Danny grabs that one just in time for port dipsy to fire and its getting crazy quick nets Chris's fish and hear the 400 copper take of (QUAD) .... We end up only getting two of the fish out of the four nice laker and beautiful bow.... The fishing continued good til about 11 and then it shut down... We went 13 for 16 and the guys kept some fish for the grill.... Mike Hector falls after the crazy storm this morning....

Ran out of south end this morning with my Dad , my son and my girlfriend.... We ran cores coppers dipsys and riggers... We started hitting fish instantly on the coppers cores and riggers , small salmon and decent little browns got that reset and 400 copper and 7 color start rippin at the same time (Doubled up!!) and we get a nice laker and salmon to the boat.... Troll a little farther north and we have a big smash on the port rigger and before I get to it its already wrapped up in the dipsy but after some quick help from my son we get her unwrapped and to the boat... Trolled north and started getting into weeds that weren't there yesterday so went out deep and got our laker program going ... We ended up the morning with a couple real nice lakers and a Grand Slam !!! We went 10 for 13 with some real beautiful fish... Packed up at 930 and we were at breakfast by 10.... .. Mike

Thanks guys....Ya it was an eventful morning and also got out again with Joe this afternoon we got into some great silvers again and a few lakers pulling off another Grand Slam, think we went 12 for 13 but lost my X4 probe due to a kink I didn't see in my rigger cable, oh well its only money right... lol.... Couple nice little football browns here in the pics.. Pic of the first one slipping out of Joes hands and one of me fighting a bow... Mike
