  1. Are you an engineer? Haha! You can't argue with physics. I am going to mix some 6'6" and 7' rods and see how they do compared to my bigger poles. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Good to know. Guess I am headed out shopping tomorrow! Thanks!! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. I guess I never really mentioned how I would be using them. I am going to be trolling with them. Your info helps, though. I assume I'll have plenty of space to be able to play the fish a bit. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. I have a bunch of Okuma downrigger rods, Eagle claw downrigger rods and Shimano TDR rods. They seem to be overkill. I was thinking of switching out a few with Ugly Stik GX2 rods, 7' or 7'6", medium and medium light actions. They are rated for 10-20lb line. Would these be adequate? I assume you can reel anything in with any rod, it's just a drag and time game to a point. I wouldn't fish kings with an ultralight stream rod, but the huge downrigger rods seem to be taking away a bit of the fun. Thanks! Cody
  5. Went 7 for 10 or so. 4 rainbows, 2 salmon and a laker anywhere grom 1-6lbs. Had a few other takes, but no one home when we grabbed it. These took fish today: FLT chicken feed on the rigger 61' to 81' and on 10 color leadcore. Had a fish on the 81' rigger break a 12 lb leader. Not sure what it was, but it came up to the top, shook and away it went. It was hammering the rainbows today, so it possibly was a good one. Wonderbread spinny with a green/blue fly on a white prism dispey out 180. A hot pink DW at 81' took a nice bow. Mtn dew spin doc/green fly took a laker and salmon at 101' and 61'. 6. Launched out of watkins around 7am. Drove up above Hector Falls and setup in 375 FOW. Lots of fish in the 50-70 range. 15 minutes in, took a small hit on a mtn dee spin doctor/green fly at 61'. 16" LL, back in he went. A bit later, 61' rigger with a FLT chicken feed took a big hit. 20" rainbow. Then, the mtn dee doctor at 101' took a 6lb laker. No fleas, lots of weeds! 7. You north guys are animals! Next trip I will be up to that end. We threw everything at those fish today and only put one in the boat. Some days you're the dog, others you're the hydrant. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Found lots of bait in closer also. Got one skippy landlocked. Hooked up bad, so in the box he went. 16". My boat looked like a crime scene. He bled all over, flopped a few times and blood wad everywhere. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. We picked up a 5-6lb rainbow out deep (over 400'). Lost it at the back of the boat. 55' rigger with a FLT spoon. Green glow something or other. We are back on the east side north of hector. Lots of bait. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. I'm headed back east now. Water is relatively warm a ways down. 60' is still 63 degrees! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Started on the SE side by the painted cliffs at around 120 FOW. Some bait, enough marks to give it a go, all scattered between 35-70'. Had 1 knock off on the 60' rigger. Very few fleas, lots of weeds. Decide to head over to the west side and stayed out in ~250FOW. Fish numbers are less if you head in or out much. No bait, but fish again scattered 50-90'. Had 1 knock off so far, no one home. Less weeds on this side and no fleas. The screen shows the fish moving around between the riggers, but so far nothing had caught anything. 19. Here's a simple question for you big lake guys: Do 30 class reels (I have Okuma Cold Water 303's and Okuma Classic Pro XP 302's) have enough line to handy fall kings? I run 30# Blood Run Sea Flee line. They hold just under 300 yards of the stuff. I was contemplating getting some 40 class reels of the same style (Okuma cold water 453 and Okuma classic pro xp 452), but would rather not spend the money if it's not necessary. For addintional info, I run Okuma downrigger rods. They are a mix of lengths, but they aren't wimpy rods. Leader material is 25# Seguar flouro. I would hate to watch a fish strip the reel clean when 50 more yards would have saved it. Thanks! Cody
  20. That's how it works best. I use it on my little boat pretty much as soon as it is of the trailer. The only 2 functions that I seem to use are the autopilot (the little circle with an arrow and "N" in it) and cruise control (the little button with a speedometer thing in it). Point the motor the way you want to go, set the speed and relax. The guys over at MinnKota really got it right. 👠Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Watch out for the iPilot. Once you figure it out, you'll never want to use anything else. 😃 Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Now I don't feel so bad! I'm sure you got beat up by the waves...the more north from the glen we got, the rougher the ride! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. Went over to the east side. Lots more fish and bait in 80 FOW. Just getting set up and the swivel on my rigger blew up. Bye bye cannon ball and clip! Shortly after, the 150' copper with a DW spoon knocked, but no one home. All fish and bait 25-45 feet. Fleas on west side were bad enough to hang on the rigger cable. 24. Just dropped a laker (I assume) right off the bottom on a FLT spoon. We were at 80 FOW. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. Started out at WG just south of the salt plant. Marked 2 bait balls and sporadic (at best) fish in the last hour. The probe says it 48 degrees down 35. The majority of the fish on the screen are up high in the 40-50FOW range. No takers yet. Weeds and fleas are playing nice so far. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
