You could also pull the wire off. And put some backing line on underneath the wire to fill up the reel. Much cheaper and you won't be dealing with a knot in the business end.
Heat tip up with lighter...pull off with needle nose...gently scrap rest of glue/threads off with a razor blade...apply super glue...put new tip on. Super easy! 3-minutes per rod.
I would target browns and consider a king a surprise bonus catch. I caught a few kings last spring on spoons fished off short coppers and lead cores in 20-60 fow. I've heard slide divers work well too.
