  1. I do both fiberglass reproductions and skin mounts and they are both the same rate. With the quality of the molding and casting materials available today there is really no need to do a skin mount unless its what you prefer. The detail captured in the fiberglass blanks is actually better than that of a skin mount. hmmm ill keep that in mind when i finally get one worth walling... I do 100% C&R fishing... so fiberglass reproductions are a nice option.
  2. paul are your mounts fiberglass? I know i read somewhere that more and more fishermen and taxidermists alike are switching to fiberglass replicas, as it keeps the cost of having to preserve an actual fish down, and even more so allows the anglers to release nice big fish.
  3. ive quit using worms and minnows all together thanks to gobies.... its all artificial for me from here on out...ive enjoy much better catch rates for game species on artificial than on worms...if someone told me 5 or 10 years ago that lures work better than worms, i would of said they were nuts...but the reality is that with the gobies in such large numbers, the second your live bait hits the water its got about 5 gobies ripping it apart. the only way ive had any luck on live bait is by using a jighead or a very large hook to avoid the goby bite.
  4. gorgeous fish and impressive work indeed. id love to get into some atlantics.
  5. Id reccomend this video by leland flies. Its excellent and covers all the basics.
  6. gorgeous fish...nice to see them still with such vibrant colors... some of the ones i saw coming out of irondequoit creek this evening were pretty beat up already.
  7. Just out of curiosity, why does the US Geological Survey conduct these stockings... seems like to me it would make more sense for US Fish And Wildlife to do that sort of thing...unless atlantics are causing earthquakes...
  8. yeah... as someone who is familiar with law enforcement... lemme say that if your getting a ticket for an obstructed plate or view because of a trailer hitch or air freshner, theres a 99% chance you got pulled over for speeding or talking on the phone, but the cop decided to be nice and cut you a break... An obstructed view or plate is a non-moving violation... Usually the fine is less than a speeding ticket, and also, you dont get points against your license.
  9. the problem with webster was how shallow the water still is.... Lost 3 cleos in about 5 minutes because of the combination of shallow water and rocky bottom... Hopefully after this rain it will fill up a bit. probably not going to go out at all today... theyre calling for 10ft waves off the lake
  10. was at webster in the rain today between 2 and 4... sucked.
  11. i was at the outlet yesterday afternoon.... didnt get anything... saw alot of salmon jumping as well as a few really big carp... but nothing looked hungry.
  12. next week might be better seeing as its supposed to rain the next few days... I went to summerville today... had a little white bass on a Yeck... Lost a cleo on a bad snag... No salmon or trout action what so ever... The current was ripping, it was rainy and pretty warm.... Theyre calling for temps in the high 70's all week... but also alot of rain... Im thinking the salmon are gonna stay put in the lake through this week since its gonna be warm... but also since its gonna rain alot as soon as it cools off next week its gonna be cool and high water...which means perfect conditions for fish to run.
  13. i wouldnt even bother going to webster park. i was there yesterday and the depth at the end of the pier was at or less than a foot... It was the shallowest ive ever seen it... The only fish i saw were a few perch. Lost two spoons on the rocky bottom and called it quits. I had better luck there in the spring when the water was high... caught a few browns and smallmouth off the pier, and a ton of big perch that were in the stream to spawn.
  14. nice fish, the browns especially!
  15. Just got back from the outlet.... bagged a nice little bass... Other than that not much action so i moved down to summerville. Got the biggest White Bass ive ever seen on a KO wobbler... again though, no serious action to speak off. A gentleman on the end of the pier did Bring in a really nice king in the 15lb range around 4pm though...green spinner...
  16. Densmore is mostly pebbles and shale until it crosses under densmore road and passes through the Norton st. Purewater station. From there west into the city it runs through a concrete man-made culvert. I wouldnt expect any fish to get past the falls behind the Legacy old folks home on norton though, its a 15ft drop. The fish might be headin up densmore... or they might just be following the west edge of the bay all the way down to I-creek seeing as the mouth is at the southwest side of the bay. Im at the intersection of ridge and bayshore, near the Sungard office building...so i must not be far from you.
  17. growing up i lived off densmore right near where the new middle school was built... used to hike along the creekbed as a kid to the waterfalls and under the 590 overpass to the Pure Waters control structure... dont remember seeing any fish, but then again i was more interested in playing with cap guns and hide and seek than fishing... Now i live off bayshore near the mouth... probably would be worth taking a short walk to check it out... I remember it only being a few inches deep for the most part...though the pool at the falls could probably hold some stream trout....
  18. i live right near the densmore creek off densmore rd... I never knew any fish were in there.
  19. great fish. is that north ponds park in the top pic?
  20. You mean at the mouth of the irondequoit creek at Laselles landing? near Bayside Boat and Tackle?
  21. browns and steelhead (steelhead and rainbow trout are the same species) are stocked each spring. In the 80's Kings, Cohos and even Atlantics were stocked in the Irondequoit. Ever since then there has been populations that continue to return... A mix of wild reproducing fish and stock fish that were dumped in the lake elsewhere.... I think its only kings and cohos now though...its been a long time since ive heard of anyone catching an atlantic there.
  22. I had a nice steelhead at the outlet on friday... and over the weekend i saw alot of browns cruising in the shallows near the beach on the lake side chasing baitfish. A week or so ago salmon were porpoising and feeding like crazy at the end near the lighthouse. The past few days though, theres been absolutely nothing as far as trout or salmon... Largemouth action has been steady though and thats what keeps me going back. I think the chances of catching some trout off the pier at the outlet are firm... as for salmon though, i feel like your right... While theyre off the end near the lighthouse staging you can get em... But once they enter the channel im thinking they probably make a straight shot for the deeper waters of the bay. Im thinking alot of the salmon have already passed through the outlet and are now staging in the bay until they make the final move into i-creek. As for I-creek, ive checked laselles, ellison, linear and powder mills this week and ive seen nothing but small stream trout and carp. no lake runners yet...which furthers my feelings that theyre still in the bay. And ive been meaning to try webster park the past week as well... Ive gotten so busy tied up at the outlet and summerville i havent made it over there recently... The next few days are supposed to be hot and sunny, so probably wont be much going on... but im thinking once we get another cool/cloudy day webster park might be pretty hot. Once that creek fills up though the fish are going to make a dash for it.
  23. went down there today... no trout or salmon action again...dont expect to see any until the weekend...seeing as theyre calling for temps in the mid 70's through friday... Did managed to get into some nice largemouth though on Mr. Twisters.
  24. nice fish. on sacs or spoons?
  25. the fish definately moved back out... the piers were hot the past 3 or 4 days... now theres nothing anywhere near them, thanks to these warmer temps. I did see a few big browns cruising the shallows chasing baitfish in front of durand though.
