  1. Beautiful!!!
  2. WOW, That is a slob of a perch! Nice job!
  3. Sounds like a great trip! Congrats. Very strange with that King indeed, you must have been pretty suprised to have landed that fish..
  4. Hey Todd, Happy Birthday bro!!!! Enjoy the day man
  5. Congrats! Sounds like your hooked now This site is awesome. So many people willing to help its unbelievable. With all the help I got from this site I was able to boat my first salmon last year
  6. Wow thats a beautiful brown, Love that hook
  7. Why mess with a great thing? Yes no doubt it would be cool but look what you already have. Probably the best Salmon/trout lakes in the country. Take a 3 hour drive to Albany or Newburgh area in May/June and you can slam the stripers on nice calm waters. Well worth the drive if you really want to catch Stripers. And these arent Hybreds these are Ocean Run migrating Stripers that can hit 50 pounds plus! If you like them then its well worth the ride
  8. Im coming up to Lake Ont. tomorrow morning and was thinking of targeting Browns. A friend told me where to look for them. My question is, if Im marking them about 90' down, how from the ball to the spoon? When I fish for Kings I keep it about 8' off the ball in the same depth. But I never targeted browns before, would I use the same length I do for kings? Any input apreciated! Also, whats the best down speed for Browns and prefered temps?
  9. Grifter Just get out there with some blood worms and drop them down to 15' over 40fow is where we found them.
  10. Len, I was there Sat. too and did nothing. We hit the water around 5am and trolled way down then about 2 miles past the bridge. All we caught was a little guy. Saw a few being caught but not many. Of course we packed it in around 1pm and naturally thats when it turned on.. Glad you had a good day, it was a bust for us. We went out friday night as well and fished til dark and didnt catch anything or see much at all. Of course yesterday morning I had guys at the launch tell me it turned on around 8:30 pm right as I loading up. If I didnt do good the monday before I wouldnt go back LOL, I keep missing them. So we gave it one last shot this morning and again didnt do anything. Barely marked any fish at all. I think Im gonna hit Liberty State Park on Friday and see if we can hit a few before they hit the ocean. But the weather in Newburgh was awesome this weekend for sure! Glad you had a good day
  11. buckboardjr , Not sure about the state park. We were nailing them right in front of Gully's and drifting to Plum Point. Im going again Fri afternoon to try trolling with the riggers then taking my boy and his pal out early Sat. morning.
  12. Awesome, I may run up friday after work to do some trolling in the afternoon! Here are a few from Monday
  13. Was out this morning and did well. We marked crazy pods of fish in Newburgh. We fished for 4 hours and went 4 for 11. Man some barely even lip the worms and some slam them. Average was 20 pounders with one around 8 pouds. All fish were released unharmed. I want to go up in a few days with my riggers, what do you guys troll with Plugs, spoons? I saw a guy trolling and he did better then anyone else I saw. But for the guys up north there were some huge pods moving through. At times my fish finder was completely blotched over all fish around 15'-20' over 40 fow
  14. Anyone try those Berkley Power bait blood worms or sand worms up there? We used them (pretty sure it was berkley) for fluke last summer and they out fished killies and squid.
  15. Are the fish past Newburgh already? I live about a half hour away and am gona make a run on Sun. and Mon. 5-13,14. This has been an awesome year for stripers in the lower hudson. We were fishing out of Liberty S.P. ad it was remarkable 2 weeks ago. Still a ton of fish around the coast on rivers. Ayway, Im gonna hit Newburgh on Sun. ad hope there are some still around. I never time it right up there for one reason or aother. They are there one day and gone the next, but the scenery is great and its nice to catch big fish in nice calm water for a change. Great Report and now Im all pumped for the weekend. Great Pics too, Thanks for sharig Hope to have a similar report next week but something tells me they will way up orth by then.
  16. Thanks for the info guys... Its a lake here in NJ called round valley. Its pristine water and the lake is about 100' deep with a trench that is 160'. There are some good lakers in there but you have to catch a ton of cookie cut fish before hooking into a good one. Thats why I wanna try something that maybe they havent seen before. Around here nobody talks to help other anglers. Years ago when I fished it alot, I used to troll with live herring cause thats the natural bait fish. I would troll with with two herring on each line. The first I would hook in the mouth, the second I hooked in the mouth right behing the first ones tail and it has a small trebble in its back. They looked great trolling at slow speeds. I would put the small cow bells in front of the herring. We would knock the hell out of the browns and bows. Guys would yell to us asking how we caught so many fish and I would tell them. Nobody says a word about how they catch fish in this place, but I live in NJ and thats pretty much the norm around here. Thats why when I found this site I couldnt belive how willing people are to help a total stranger. This site is awesome and Im not use to people that actually want to help others. Hopefully tomorrow I can post pics of a good one Gonne be a great weekend, good luck to anyone heading out!
  17. I have a few and will definitly give it a try. Years ago I used cowbells with those peanuts and did alright. Im hoping to show these fish something they havent seen before to try to entice something better then what we normally catch. Seems we have to catch close to a hundred lakers i the 20-24" range before boating a ten pounder. My best laker from this lake was 18 pouds and that fish took me ten years to catch and it may be another ten years before getting another one like that here. IME, the best results Ive had are spoons, but this weekend Im going to try a meat rig with spin dr. and see if that works, I got a nice laker last year at LO with that rig. Ive tried huge magnum spoons to discourage the smaller lakers and it still doesnt work, these fish eat spoos 1/3 the size of their whole body.. Many many times I end up dragging a small laker around for who knows how long. I did the rubber band trick last season and it really helped showing those small bites. Thanks for the input. I'll let you know how it works
  18. Im going out to fish a local lake this weekend for lakers. Ive fished it for years but never nailed anything big. Most of the lakers are cookie cut at about 20" or so. There are some good ones but few and far between. I normally troll at 2mph or even less pulling spoons off my riggers. What do you guys reccommend trying to entice something bigger? When you guys fish for lakers at LO what is your favorite bait? I was thinking of trying F/F combo's and maybe a meat rig. Can anyone give me some tips on catching Lakers? I have tried alot of different things but hopefully someone has something that I havent tried yet. Thanks!
  19. Anyone catching any browns off the Salmon River? Unfortunately thats the only area I am familiar with as last summer was my first time fishing the lake. Any one have any info. on that area for Browns this time of year? As always the advice is very much apreciated
  20. Awesome to see a happy kid with a great fish! Congrats on a great day and making great memories for your boy All these reports are getting me pumped. I may have to head up next weekend with my son and attempt to boat a nice brown for him!
  21. I have an 18' boat that I used over the fall last year. I was a little hessitant to be honest because the weather wasnt suposed to be to good, and it wasnt LOL. We went about 10 miles out and the wind was howling pretty good. The first day we hit 2.5-3 footers and it was rough but bareable. The toughest part was staying straight while troling. The next day a storm picked very very quickly. By the time I pulled our gear we were in 4 footers, it was rough. I have a 115 outboard and my boat is pretty quick. I was able to get right on top of the waves and we flew right in. Under 20MPH we got soaked and beat up, I decided to try hammering down to keep the bow up. We did and it worked great. Some advice for you. Make 100% sure that you have a good working bildge pump. Have a radio flares, horns, flag, and of course the obvious, life vests, etc. When we were there and that storm came up I started pulling my gear, a few waves came over the bow, while I was in the back of the boat I started taking in water from the outboard engine well thru a ripped cable boot. That quickly we started taking on water and my pump was running but not bailing water. In a panic I high tailed it in to port. When we got on plane we werent taking anymore water in thak god! Once on the trailer and drained the water I was able to remove my fuel tanks and batteries to find a plastic bag had blown into the well that my bilge sits in. The back had completely wraped around the cage preventing any water at all from going into the pump. Just be careful, in those few minutes everything went real bad real fast and thats all it takes to end it all. Everyone thinking it cant happen to them. But it only takes seconds to go down. Always be prepaired. Anyone can make a fatal mistake so prepare before hand for the worst cause you wont know how youll act in a situation like this. It was an eye opener for me.
  22. Awesome Mark!!!! That is great I didnt know they made those stackers with long leads. The oes I have are similar except they have like 3" leads. No doubt that will make is so much easier to use. Man I can not wait to get back up. I had spine surgery 2 weeks ago so Im home from work and have cabin fever so bad. So I am trying to take in as much as I can with this time. Im taking notes and started a journal last season once we started hooking up. So I will keep track this season of time, conditions, lures, etc. The first time up we managed to get my son a decent laker and had a few drops, the second time I couldnt bring my son and of course we boated a few kings and a nice coho. Thats typical, all I wanted was for my son to catch his first king. This season he's gonna get one This is all great info. Its hard to believe there are still people out there that will help strangers. I hope someday to have enough experience that I can help a newbi too. Thanks again man. Over the summer when time allows we should hook up one day. Always cool to put faces to the name.
  23. Great information guys Thanks! Mark as always a wealth of information. Lots to take in.... Dont know if you remeber but over the summer you were telling me about something called down and out. I didnt try it last year because both times I was up the water was rough and the wind was howling. I found it best to run only 2 rods One on each rigger. Being my boat is only 18' it was tough to stay straight while setting up using only my kicker. But I would like to try that down and out on a nicer day. I believe you told me to set my first line on the ball, lower it down to 30', then (with a second line) use a small dipsy and put out about 100', then clip that to my rigger cable and lower ball to desired depth. What clip do you use thats strong enough so the dipsy line doesnt pull out when trolling but will release with a fish on? I have some cannon stacker clips, will those hold the line from snapping out while trolling the small dipsy? If not those then what clips would you recommend for down and outs? Thanks!
  24. Thanks as always for the wealth of information. Im looking real forward to the upcoming season.Last year was a lot to take in and somehow we managed to boat a few. Im hoping this year we can pick up a few more that are not by chance Thanks as always!
  25. Sorry for all the questions again, But I also have a bunch of J plugs that Ive never used. Pretty much the same questions on using them as well. Like I said, the only thing I tried in my two trips up there was flashers fly combos. Havent tried plugs or spoon. I had good success with the combos I used and if my buddy didnt get sick we probably would have done even better but I would like to know how to use other tools in my spread to see whats working best at that time. Thanks again, Jeff
