  1. I was refering to Sushi flies. Ive never tried them but they look pretty awesome. They are flies designed to have filets on them in tow. They look like they are worth trying but being that this is my first solo trip up to the lake with my own boat I didnt know if there was a time of year that bait works better then others. I found them here, http://shop.gltsupplies.com/merchant2/m ... ct_Code=SF
  2. When is the best time to use meat rigs? Ill be heading up to lake O in a few weeks and have an array of flies and spoons and want to try a fillet on a fly and see what happens.. Is mid Aug. a good time to try it out? Also whats the best presentation, on the riggers or dipsies? Thanks!
  3. I do have two 12 pound fish shaped weights that I bought a long time ago but I have to find them. They are in a box somewhere from when we moved 5 years ago. LOL if I find them do you think they will do?
  4. This Aug. will be my first time trolling on Lake Ontario. Im wondering what the best weight cannon ball is to use. I use 8# at 90' down in NJ for lakers with no problems, are they large enough or do I need to get heavier cannon balls for lake Ontario?
  5. I kind of figured the same thing, I'll try them on a lake here in NJ on the lakers and see what happens.
  6. Great Fish! Thanks for the report
  7. Sounds like a great day! Congrats and thanks for the updat
  8. Curious, while browsing the web I came across rattles, does anyone use them? If so how effective are they? http://shop.gltsupplies.com/merchant2/m ... ct_Count=0
  9. Ok got ya! I thought he meant to have 1000' of line out away from the boat. Makes sense now, thanks.
  10. skipper19 Awesome advice!!! Thanks alot, i never even thought of running a dipsy off my rigger wire.. I do have dual holders on my riggers so that isnt an issue.. For the most part it will only be myself and my son so we will only be running 4 lines but if we have a third that could really tip the odds for us to boat our first king On another note, if we go with four lines on two riggers, for example, If I have my lower line 20' off the ball and say 70' down, where would be the best place to put my top line? If I set the lower up where i mentioned, would it be good to set my top line about 25' from the ball and like 62' down? Sorry I know what Im trying to say but its hard to type so it makes any sense.. Thanks again for the great advice!
  11. 1000' minimum? For real?? Im a newb for fishing lake o but my reels will never even hold 1k' of wire... Im not being a wise arse because Im sure you know better then me but could u have meant 100'?
  12. I recently picked up two Mag 10 riggers that I am on the fence weather to run a sinlge rod or dual rods on each.. My boat is 18' and 72" wide so its not the widest boat out there. I have been thinking if I run one rod on each rigger and set up two rods with dipsies what would my best choice be as far as line? I was wondering if braided would be good to use with maybe 250' of line out or would wire be a better option? Or stick with 4 rods on the two riggers... Any help would be apreciated...
  13. Thanks Tom! Good to know that my boat isnt to small unless it gets to rough. I cant wait to get up there next month. I am dieing to try and get my son hooked up with a king in the lake. I brought him up to the salmon river when he was 9 with the fly rods and he nailed a 16# brown. It was the best feeling in the world. I dont know who would be happier to see him catch a king, him or myself
  14. What is the best size for salmon?
  15. Thanks for all of that info. I have been on the fence about dumping the lute for a good unit. I fish a few good lakes in Nj for lakers, browns, and bows but after many years of fishing these lakes i have learned what works, time of year, lures, season movements etc. However, this Aug. will be my first time coming the lake O in my own boat. I have been out with some charters over the years but like I said, my first trip up where it is completely up to me to find the fish on totally unchartered waters. How important is temp. come late aug. when kings start stacking up by the mouth of the salmon river? Logically I wouldnt think that it is all too important but maybe Im wrong... What I am assuming is most things that work for summer time salmon kind of goes out the window come late aug. and sept. Am I wrong with my line of thinking? Basically what I am asking is is it a needed piece of equiptment for that time of year? I just bought a kicker motor, 2 new riggers, flies, more j plugs, etc. If it isnt completely needed for that time of year I really dont want to spend the extra cash. Now all of that being said, this will be my 11 year old son's first time fishing for salmon and I want to do whatever I need to do to tip the odds in our favor... any insight from you guys that know would be much apreciated... Thanks again for the great info!
  16. WOW, That is amazing! Whats amazing to me is that fish doesnt look to pickey about what it eats LOL so Im suprised someone didnt kill it a long time ago. Awesome that he released that monster
  17. Name: Jeff, aka jdm130 Location: N.N.J. Home Port: Boat Name/Type: 18' Runabout I fish for: Trout, Salmon, Musky, Pike, and Walleyes ================== Hey Guys, Great Site, Im glad I found it. Im from northern NJ on the border of NJ and NY. I primarily fish for BIG fish only. Im not into bass fishing except for the striped ones LOL. I have an 11 year old son that has caught some awesome fish that took me my entire life to learn how to catch. We fish primarily for Lakers at a few places in NJ. We also go after some big Muskies.. My all time favorite place to fish is the big O. I have never fished it on my own but will be doing it this year.. I have high hopes of my son landing his first King this August. I know I have a lot of homework to do and hope we can get some tips from some of the pros on this site. For my son to get just one King in the boat would make my year! Cant wait!!
  18. Great Job!! Cant wait to get up in a few weeks!! Thanks for the report, great pics
