  1. Freshwater- trolled a dipsy with a spoon, stick bait on an inline board and a spoon on lead core. Then jigged with a jig and plastic Ended up 1/3 with one small lakers and 2 other hits on the dipsey. Gave up trolling because the leaves and debris were a pain. Jigged for about an hour and got 2 big smallmouths 5-6# and another 6-7# laker. And wayne, the coldwater reels aren't worth the money in my opinion, The counter on this one only works when going out and if you change the drag setting you have to pull some line out in order for the new tension level to kick in. I have cheap magda pro's and cabelas depthmasters that I have more faith in.
  2. Lots of debris in the water and one small laker so far. Beats Christmas shopping.
  3. Still open may take the boat out Saturday
  4. I went down to honeoye today, there's an inch of crap ice with a bunch of snow on top of it. It's gonna be a while I think
  5. get a foxpro and do some calling, way more fun
  6. Only one way to find out. Get out there and post up a report when ya get back.
  7. Well after a nice suntan session in tree this morning I figured that fishing this afternoon would likely be much more enjoyable and productive. Launched the boat at around 1 and headed to a shoal area we had pounded the lakers pretty good at about a month or so ago. Dropped down my favorite 1oz glow jig with a 4" white berkley ripple Shad and had Hit before it hit bottom, a few moments later a nice small mouth broke the surface, probably a 4-5 pounder. The next 2 hours were pretty much nonstop action with tons of smallies and surprisingly only a few lakers. Fished 2 rods, one with jig and plastic and one with a 3/4oz blade bait. Temps were about 45, great afternoon on the water. Some screen shots as well.
  8. with that much current I doubt you'd want anything less than a 24v system or at least a 12v system with 2 batteries
  9. http://www.rivieratrolling.com/downriggers.html I have an old short boom riviera id sell for like 30$ if youre interested
  10. it's getting better, still tons of floating weeds but the it's only going to get better as the water cools. I think I saw a surface temp of 69 last sunday, with this colder weather it should cool down quick
  11. Conesus always seems to get the best of me, but I usually only ever venture over there in the summer when its weed/party boat city and fishing is next to impossible. I will be over there this fall for sure and would like to try it in the spring as well, thanks for the info.
  12. For me my walleye season starts out trolling reef runners in the spring at around 1.5-2, after that I go to smaller shad style baits at around 2-2.3, then in the summer its usually spinners at around 1.5 and then the process reverses in the fall until ice up
  13. I've been keeping up with your reports and have been somewhat hesitant to try speeds as fast as you have posted, look's like I've got some changes to make, Also going to start throwing more spoons in the mix, Love the action of those stinger scorpions!
  14. same here, when I target them, I always considered 2-2.2 to be my max with cranks and a tad faster when trolling spoons, nothing over 3 for eyes. Lower water temps might have them fired up a bit though. Time for some experimenting when I get out next
  15. down 40' over 60' only about 15' back from the ball. Bait clouds everywhere today and fish all over, this one hit right in the middle of a bait cloud so thick it blanked out the screen. Looks like I have some experimenting to do when it comes to the eyes. I have a hard time getting my raps to run right over 2.5 mph, looks like I might have to go through and tune em all one of these days if it's slow.
  16. Went out to one of the fingers this morning to do a little trolling, half hour into my troll popped this big eye on a rigger going after rainbows. Shocked me as I was doing about 3.5 mph Measured in at 32'' and 13lbs even, going on the wall!
  17. Oh sorry, never fished on "sure" before. Disregard what I said.
  18. Ten pound mono all the way up to sixty pound copper, depends on what delivery method you plan on using
  19. Please explain sushi style, I was always told that freshwater fish may not be consumed raw
  20. that was the only dock down there on sunday
  21. Will try seperating wires and look into resistor plugs. Can anyone explain how to ground a motor?
  22. It was included, will check to see about the wires, I think they were pretty bundled up together so that might be part of the problem. I think the angle is okay though because it matched the backup unit on the boat when we ran that one as well. Will get some pictures up so hopefully we can get this figured out, Thanks!
  23. well sunday we got out in ruger1nut's 19' islander for the first time that he just bought on here from another member. Everything ran smooth except that we experienced terrible interference while running the 15hp honda 4stroke kicker motor, on the lowrance hds5 gen2. When trolling with the i/o we had a perfect screen with no noise/interference whatsoever. The kicker is mounted on the port?(left side if you were looking from the rear) and the transducer is on the same side as well. As soon as we turned the kicker on the screen went nuts and marking fish/bait was next to impossible. With the i/o, it was crystal clear? Any ideas on how to remedy this situation?
