I spoke too soon.. I thought my aunts property was in 8J but I just got my license and before I went I found a link with an overlay of the WMUs on Google maps and her land is actually just on the 8F side of the border. So now I'm wondering do I go out opening day and shoot 2 does to fill my permits and wait until after the 14th to go out again and then aggressively hunt for a shooter buck or do I wait until the 14th hunt up in the ADKs and let whatever bowhunters are out the first to weeks push deer to the property I hunt.

I have been waiting for the new thread for the year. I'm getting tuned in 24 days from now, not that I'm counting.... This is one that we have on my northern zone property this year. I don't put cameras on the property in Victor because I believe it's too much hype. My uncle sent me this one of our secondary area. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

My 129" 10 pointer only went 40 yards before it took the official dirt nap and that was from 55 yards with a rage. Just busting stones but like some other people have said it all comes down to shot placement. Some people do like to shoot deer directly in the shoulder with a bow, which I don't quite understand, but Rages admittedly do not work for that. For right behind the shoulder to about 4 inches up where I like to place the arrow Rages work. I would like to shoot fixed blades because they are a little more forgiving but my bow is already tuned in for the Rage and they work for now.

Who else is getting the itch for whats coming in 27 days? Broke out the bow last week and have been tuning it in. Been reading a lot of deer forecast articles for the year and behavioral articles about whitetails to expand my knowledge. Today when I was supposed to be paying attention I found myself sketching out a map of my hunting area with major deer crossings and my new stands with arrows next to each one to map out which one to hunt regarding wind direction. I think its safe to say I'm getting antsy for the 1st.

Archery is the time to go in Ohio we went out 4 days before gun season to scout and saw some giants. After the first day of gun you'd think there wasn't a deer in the state. We hunted southeast as well. Ask around to landowners out there since it's a "trophy state" now a lot of people are afraid to ask farmers for permission and everyone we asked let us hunt. I shot both these deer last year with standard 3 blade rages. The doe is an exit and you can't see the entrance on the buck because it was right behind the shoulder. The doe was quartering to me and passed through the buck the broad head was stuck in the far ribs and the heart was in 2 pieces. 4th deer I've hit with rages and I have lost one but it was a deflected shot that hit up in no mans land above the shoulder. I see the graph that shows it now. Luckily if the big one shows up on the property I mainly hunt in that time frame I'm about 4 miles to the good to shoot him. Gill-T I think it lets more bucks get smarter as the season goes on and gives them a better chance also after last season NY said they wanted to focus more on killing does which this clearly does.

Now that this thread is back and I praised my polarized plastic frame Ray Bans last year. Since then I have changed my mind. I had the ray bans and liked them but after long days out on the lake the frames flat out hurt my head to the point I would get a headache. The lenses were great though. After them I tried Oakleys and although they seemed good in the store they did not stay firmly on my face and the lenses were not great at all compared to the RBs. I tried Bolles and Wiley X's that my dad and brother had after that and though the frames were very comfortable the lenses were awful and I mean terrible. I finally tried out the Costas and ended up going with the Saltbreak's in tortoise with copper 580p lenses. Not only are they as comfortable as the other top contenders but the lenses are incredible they have great UV blocking power (wore them in Antarctica in 24hrs of sun and ice no problem) and you can see into the water great. Even on shore they make everything just look nicer they brighten things up so much. Some people like the glass because it's a little more clear and scratch resistant but for the price difference I like my poly lenses just fine and have not been able to scratch them yet (knock on wood). Ice is pretty much broken up out front of Oswego. Just some shore ice and floaters right now

Not set on a Penn Yan but there seems to be some out there for a reasonable amount of money. Definitely will have any boat surveyed. I'm starting to see that for the money the 10 meter trojans are almost the way to go. Although a much bigger boat, more expensive to run and not trailerable to storage they have a lot more room to stay on as a slipped boat and can be found in the 18-25k range not rigged. Also a great fishing platform as I've fished on a couple over the years. Patriot that seems like a good deal for that boat I might have to check it out and look further on that website.

Saw both of those. A bit out of my price range and as far as the Seatracker I'd like to have two engines. Just makes the odds of not making it back in under your own power a little less likely. Thanks though guys!

Oswego is still Ice as far as the eye can see in front of the school. The only open water is right in front of the mouth of the river right now.
