First salmon that my buddy and I ever caught was estimated at 30ish lbs, tried to net him with a walleye net. Couldn't get enough net on him to do anything but knock the hook out and watch him swim away. Needless to say that afternoon we upgraded the net!!
I don't know for sure why they shot them but, mute swans are in fact an invasive species in ny and when it comes to waterfowl they are the meanest of the bunch. They will chase every other fowl from a swamp . There has been chatter of a season coming for them. There is a lot of info to be found in a google search of " mute swans in ny"
not my boat but this shows the rod holders to the rear just in front of where the downriggers go. It is a 17 foot boat

One thing to add, it takes a while for some people to sound like a goose. Your better off not calling until you sound right. Bad calling will chase more birds away than attract

There are a lot of dog training programs and competitions held there also. Three rivers is also the only place I know of that has pheasants released on it. It's generally a busy place

My buddy bought the traxtech mounts for his Lund and put 3 rod holders on a track with them. They will hold a dipsey but do not know if it will a downrigger. When you get the brackets they don't look like much but I was impressed with their strength when we mounted them and put the track on
