Nothing great to write home about, except that it was a spectacular afternoon/evening to be on the water and not think about work the next day! Got out on the water around 3pm, set up in 130 fow heading NW and threw out 3 riggers, 2 divers and a 4 color leadcore. There were not alot of marks or bait pods. Saw a couple as we were first setting up, then nothing til 190, then quiet again thru 240 fow. He did manage one hit (gone in 30 seconds) on the 4 color leadcore, pulling my favorite bloody frog stinger. We turned back and got into a steelie on the same 4 color again. Put on quite the aerial display for a few minutes, before doing what steelies do best.... Spitting the hook! Poked around from 200-260fow, came back in and found the best depth for screen was between 180-200 fow. Found marks, bait and finally a landed 6-7 lb laker on the 65' rigger, pulling a NK28 silver w/green ladder spoon. But then quiet again. Trolled N/S and E/W. Circled waypoints. Changed depths....and speeds. Threw some different colors at them. Nothing! Trolled til 7:30, but needed to head in and get back to the pork butt that was smoking at the house, waiting to be eaten! Fishing off Bear Creek / Pultneyville has not yet really heated up. Will be back out Friday morning for a little bit and we shall see from there! Jason

Nice report Chris, thanks you for that, as I will be heading out in a bit. At least you didn't snag or loose any equipment, so that is a plus! jason -
Reports out of Sodus
reelintense replied to shakenbake114's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
see my report under Bear Creek/Pultneyville. It should be fairly similar to Sodus. It maybe 15 miles west, but its alot of the same water and currents. Try 130-180 fow. -
A great day to be out, but action was slow, but better than last week. LOL Left port a little after 6:15, but needed to spend a few minutes re-calibrating the auto-pilot. So lines were really not all set until ~7am. Started in a 100fow with 3 riggers, a 4-color leadcore and 2 divers. Water temp at 60 foot was ~45-46 degrees, but I put it on a north troll and it cooled off some to 44 over 175fow. Had the first hit on a bloody frog, on the lead core, but lost it 15-20 seconds in. It took a while before we had another hit, but the 45 foot rigger pulling a Mag Yellow NBK took a 11lb laker, over 175fow. Screen between 130-175 foot looked better, so after working out to 225, I turned back south and we picked up a nice 8lb brown on the bloody frog off the 4-color, over about 190fow....working into 120 fow we didnt see as much as I liked, so I worked a NW troll back out and we picked up a nice 4-5lb coho on the bloody frog again, cant remember depth....but the screen was still not what I wanted, so we trolled out to 250 fow. Water was ice cold...about 39 degrees, 70 foot down...but I was trying to find some better marks. Because of a small issue with a tangle....and 15 minutes of getting it fixed, we actually got out to 300 fow, before I turned back south. Didnt see much or anything past the 250 and no hits. On the troll back in, around 230fow, we took a small 4-5lb steelie on a green dolphin on the slider. Rigger was parked at 55feet, so figure 25-30 foot on the slider. At this point we have a laker, a brown, a coho and a steelie. So can we get the ever elusive Royal Flush? We kept heading in at a south east troll, wind at our backs. No bites....talking about how we can get a king on. Taking bets on what line...Like I said the best marks were inside of 175'....really in that 130-150fow as it turned out. We were in 140...with the deep rigger parked at 110' and the mag diver, pulling a white/pearl glow spindoctor and blue hammer fly (my favorite set up from last year) at 235foot back on a 1.5 setting, so had to be close to 110 foot down. Well it takes a rip and starts tearing line. No laker, no steelie or brown or coho that deep ripping line like that. Game On! 500 foot of line in no time and then its that steady give and take of line for 15 minutes....fish is ~100 foot back and starts across from Starboard to Port side and pop....spits the hook!! My friend who was reeling the fish in was about to cry.....at least into his beer. So close, yet so far away! Fish played like a 20lb'er...but alas, we will never know and the Royal Flush was lost. Had to leave 30 mins laters, so we finished 4 for 6 for the day. Not stellar for 5-6 hrs of trolling, but i was not working! and it was beautiful on the water! Hope to be back out tomorrow or Sunday. Tight Lines Jason

Great morning on the water....even if we only managed 4 for 6 and lost our very large king! Ugh..... Still better than sitting in an office. I know Wilson is along way from Bear Creek....but action and screen was best in that 130-175 fow. And I poked out to 300 just to be sure. Did manage the Steelie out there...but much better down temps and baitfish and hooks in and around 150. Good luck guys!

Red Diamond Dry Ice & Co2 Corporation (585) 254-6844; 1083 Mt Read Blvd, Rochester, NY 14606 This is the only company I know of in the Rochester area. There maybe a way of shipping dry ice to Wilson and picking it up at the post office or somewhere else. That's the only thing I can think of.

the bar so far
reelintense replied to rustyrat's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
We fished from Wilson to the bar Mon/Tue and did 4 Coho on flat lines Monday and 5 fish (2 kings, 2 coho and a laker) on Tuesday. Tons of marks, but not alot of action......most of the radio chatter was the same....very few good boxes. We threw everything at them. My buddies that held back did nothing yesterday and only a couple kings today, on the evening troll. It was not you and most definately the weather. That long of an easterly wind really killed it. That should change starting tomorrow and Saturday will be much improved. -

Great Job Kyle.......and there is nothing more rewarding then getting someone else on the leaderboard, when your captain! Here's hoping Connor's fish sticks!!!!! -
There is NO unwritten rule on running two planer boards and NO rule on length. I have 150 foot on each of my planer reels, but rarely put them out more than 75 feet, running 2 flat lines on each. But Charters and boats with a slew of guys that know what there doing will run 3-4 lines off each and sometimes put out 100-150 foot from the boat. So it does take up some extra space, but with that length of shoreline it should not be an issue, as much as it is say at the river, where boats are trying to circle or figure eight a post stamp of stained water coming out. Then it can get a little hairy, unless you stay on the outside of it all or go off shore!

Out of I-Bay

Awesome. Great to hear such a great report on a large king in the area! We fished shallow from Duran to the river and only had one Steelie! Maybe we should have slid out to deeper water! -

Awesome Kyle.....glad ur day went so well!! And that the shakedown went smoothly. Nice report! jason -
YAH they are putting in the docks, although i have no problem tying off against the breakwall. Regardless, I have a 22 foot Penn Yan i launched out of there on Friday and there is enough water. Its shallow by the breakwall, but 3-3.5 foot deep and a sandy bottom, so with engine up, it was fine. Channel was 6-7 foot deep on the near side to pier (west side of channel). You should be fine!

reelintense replied to rdebadts's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
nice Abe.....I am glad to hear. I am wondering if browns are staying close or are they already starting to work slightly deeper water and munching on gobies. Especially on a south wind when water goes so clear! Good to know Lakers are there for the taking if needed! Jay
