  1. I am in love!!!! If only I could grab it today! Wanna trade my 1986 Grady 197 Tournament for it???? (Kid NOT included) Oh why did I have to see this boat!!!!!! I wont sleep now......
  2. In my office, here I sit Thinking hard, do I quit Pros and cons, fading daylight Scream of wire, how kings fight What will hit, I don’t care Fishing, oh my love affair Browns, lakers, even ho’s Jump of steelies, no one knows In the end, I must stay Oh the bills, still left to pay But tomorrow, at first light Believe you me, I’ll be looking…..for a fight
  3. Well Said!!!! The Aluminum boats are much easier and lighter to trailer and launch...etc. What I do like about the glass fishing boats they wash down much easier. Blood and scales on the carpeting are not as easy to just rinse off!
  4. My two cents.... I purchased a used Grady White Tournament 192 last year, which is the open bow version of the GW's. I specifically wanted that boat, as the open bow allowed more free space for the kids to sun themselves, or to be apart from one another, as close quarters and kids dont always mix. It also allows for easy access to anchoring it. To casting off the bow or everyone spreading out for perch and small mouth fishing. The boat and motor are only 2700lbs or so, and loaded its only 3500 I estimate. Bottom line is that I wanted a boat I could easily troll out on Lake Ontario and felt comfortable that it could handle the waves and conditions, but was multi functional for other fishing and tubing behing...etc. BUT HERE IS THE CAVEAT..... After i got the boat, I wanted to use it much more often than our old family boat, which had been moored on Keuka Lake since the early 90's. I have total sea legs and could care less if I am out on the water and its 3-4 footers. The boat is handling fine and I am not worried about it....but I learned real quick that this does not mean my guests, kids and girlfriend could handle it. I fish off my buddies 24' Grady all the time and with that size/weight and beam, it handles the waves and kick up that can come off Lake O within 15-20 minutes. Bottom Line on nice days my 19 and half foot GW is fine, but I have not launched or been kicked off the water, because the other passengers are not as keen on the bouncing around. You mentioned kids....mine are now 14 and 16, and have been on boats their whole lives....but are not as excited to go, if there is even a 2 foot chop. Its a fine line, but when all is said and done, I am really wishing I had gotten the 22' Walkaround GW, with a cuddy. I have seen some of the Penn Yan's Outrage 225 on here and GW's, Wellcrafts...etc. I know guys using Aluminums, but me personally i want a fiberglass boat. If I did it all over again, here are things I would consider......having a kicker motor on it already. I have since put on a 9.9 kicker, which is much more fuel efficient for the hours of trolling i do. AND it has come in handy several times already as the main engine and gas lines have experienced 'problems'.. If you can afford it, have the Hard Top or a really nice Canvas top with drop down side curtains. I will probably add that to the boat myself next year, but wish it was already on there. Look for Auto Pilot if you can. Learned just how hard it is to take family and friends out, rookies for the most part and get doubled or tripled up, going into the waves and not being able to steer, move lines and net fish at the same time. Even at times just setting lines in rough water. Can live without an autopilot, but it will be on my upgrade. I know....very long winded. I guess what I learned is that going bigger and outfitting for more trout/salmon fishing, I look back and realize that how I fish and use this boat, is fairly different than how I was using my last boat, and wish I could have done some things different, to make it more how I am actually using it today. Didnt know then, what I know now. Here is one GW I would love, as well as some of the ones in the classifieds here on the LOU board. http://rochester.craigslist.org/boa/3130170726.html Good Luck.
  5. I second that. I had an awesome 34 years with my dad and fished 31 of those years with him...but mostly bass, perch, pike...etc. We downrigged a little, but never invested and dedicated ourselves to a program like this. Mostly browns and lakers here and there. He would so have loved the sound of a screaming wire with a big king. Totally awesome that you are sharing that with your dad!!! Jay
  6. Wow...that is one skinny king!!!!!!
  7. awesome job!!! .... and I solo out quite often and know what you mean, hard to steer, clear or move lines and fight a fish. And more then once you look at the other poles and ...theres a double! Now what to do!!!!!!!

  9. aint that the truth...along with pizza, wings, and a brewski ..... And Rich......YES, the coho came on the NBK, down 100' on rigger. Jay
  10. The advice on tips is right on.... As for the LOC, the best way to catch a large fish, is to not be entered. Like many of us have said, we have seen it again and again. This summer LOC it happened and honestly, it happened during the FALL 2011 LOC....aboard a charter out of Olcott I believe....guy lands a 40lb king last weekend of the tournament and didnt pay the $15. That's $20,000 lost because of trying to save a few bucks. These charter captains (most) know there stuff and put you onto fish. Along the way, they are going to have big fish....just a matter of whether client was in or out! my two cents
  11. Awesome man!!!!! [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  12. Nice reports Nick, looks like it was a good weekend except for Friday. Those appeared to be some mid 20's kings. Just getting back from the Nascar races in Michigan, but will be out this afternoon on my buddies boat, to try and give'm hell! [ Post made via BlackBerry ]
  13. i believe you can start using it again after Labor Day. I think Memorial Day to Labor day its closed, except for emergencies...etc
  14. One other thing to keep in mind is that current wind forecast is noted and that results in a forecast for approximate wave heights assuming a starting point of flat calm. But what can really get you is what the wind was 6-12+ hours prior to that. So many times I have gone down to the launch because the wind is calm or out of the south but only 5-10mph, only to find that 2-4 footers are still rolling pretty good out of the east or west, depending on what the previous wind direction and speed was. Fishing with 1 or 2 other guys, its no big deal, but fishing alone or with a relative rookie for trolling and you can find yourself 4-5 miles out with rollers from the east and choppy waves coming at you from the south, and your like a tossed salad. just sayin....!
  15. want want want..... but came back from son's orthodonist appt yesterday and well.....there's $6300 I wont have! But that is a sweet boat and set up for $17K Couple more years....just keep telling myself.....couple more years!
  16. So true!!! Great Job Chris!!!!! Wish I was out there today, instead of sitting on this long conference call, looking at LOU!!!
  17. Nice job Chris. My motto is if you get them within eyesight of the back of the boat....that's a landed fish! Good job letting them go gingerly!!! Jason
  18. Choc Chip Pancakes, eggs, orange juice coming right up!!!! What's your coordinates?
  19. we love Bad to the Bone. Sorry your day on the water was not so good, but ending it with a plate from them, sure helps soften the blow!!!!!!
  20. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8/11 Time on Water: 6:30 - 11:00 Weather/Temp: 70 and sunny Wind Speed/Direction: SE to S to SW Waves: flat to 2ft Surface Temp: 74 Location: north of Bear Creek LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 9 Total Boated: 5 Species Breakdown: LAKERS ..ugh Hot Lure: SD/Fly Trolling Speed: 2.5 +/- Down Speed: Boat Depth: 120-140 Lure Depth: 80, 55, 40 riggers, 250' std dipsy, 200' mag dipsy ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Took a buddy and his two teenage sons out for there first time downrigging. The lake was perfect when we set out in 100 fow, but spent a good hour hunting and pecking to find fish. Marked a couple, then we found the lakers in 120-140, working a more east/west troll. We went 4 for 7 in this water in about 90 minutes, with one double. All hits on the dipsy's.....one a green nuclear SD with green fly and the other a white pearl glow SD with blue fly. But I wanted to get these guys into the Kings and I heard Nick on Ruff Rider had marked fish out deep in 230-250. So I trolled out to about 260fow. We did take one rip on the 60foot rigger over 230fow pulling a NBK, had what felt like a king on for about a minute and was gone! Spent a little time trolling arond here, but wind was picking up now out of the SW and wanted to get back to the inside water. Trolled back and as soon as we hit 140fow...there goes the diver and there is another laker. Lakers were all 4-8lbs.....nothing big. We called it a day at this point. His sons were very happy, even if we didnt land a "big" one....they started asking dad for a boat. That made me smile!!! Tight Lines Jason ====================
