Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Outta Line ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 7-9-12 Time on Water: 6-8:15pm Weather/Temp: sunny warm Wind Speed/Direction: calm Waves: 2' rollers outta NE Surface Temp: 75 Location: north west of Bear Creek LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 4 Total Boated: 2 Species Breakdown: kings Hot Lure: white/green nuclear SD/green fly Trolling Speed: 2.5-2.9 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 150-170fow Lure Depth: 250' diver, 200' mag diver, 70' rigger ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Managed to slide out for a couple of hours on the Big Lake, just to stretch my legs after a long day of work. Which mind you, really gets in the way of my fishing schedule!!!! Anyways, set up in 120fow and trolled north to 200fow and nothing. Well, first hour wasted, say a little bait and activity back closer to 160-170 and wouldn't you know it....as soon as I get back to 170 fow....diver starts ripping. Its a white/green nuclear pulling a green fly, set back 250 foot on a #2 setting. Fish takes me to about 350feet....and makes a couple nice runs....about 10 pounds once I got it in. Now it gets interesting. I had trolled into about 150 fow...and was about to reset the starboard diver, was checking the line and BAM.....port diver, a mag diver, set back 200' on a #1 setting, pulling a white/green glow crush SD with blue hammer fly....starts screaming and I mean screaming!!! I back the drag off a little and this thing is winding like a 9000rpm NASCAR race. I am trying to step around my other diver/SD/fly lying now in the back of the boat....I grab the rod and already the line counter is reading 350 foot and going....and POP......gone! $%^$^@#$......! Luckily did not lose any tackle.....which is why i thought might have happened. Figured the Fly at minimum was gone....but no. Got it all back, minus the king that spit the hook. I'm probably happy, cause with my luck it was a 30+lb'r and I have no one on the boat to witness it for LOC. I did manage two more hits and landed one, both on the same white/green nuclear SD. The 70 foot rigger had a 42second spoon, a NBK and a purple spook...and never took a hit. Had a green dolphin slider on there as well and nothing! NADA....only bites on the divers. Well, that is it for tonight. Back out on Wednesday and probably Friday afternoons! Tight lines Jason

in the market for a new boat
reelintense replied to mytime1975's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
I third REEL POWER's post....but adding my two cents. I am not a fan of Aluminum crafts on the lake when it starts to get choppy.....just too noisy for me. And when your 5-7 miles off shore, it can go from calm to choppy to 3 footers, in the time it takes you to pull lines and get ready to run back. I have been fishing on Grady's for the last 10 years and a Starcraft for 20years before that....both handle extremely well in the chop and waves that occur out here. Deep V hull designs are going to be your best bet. DEFINATELY two motors....main drive and a kicker, what a comfort knowing I can still get back if the main engine dies (and it has already twice this year, for a stupid anti-siphon valve, but lets not talk about that). And lastly.....double whatever you think your gonna spend! I got my current boat last year for $5K and then promptly put about $4k into just about anything and everything. Stuff to get the trailer upto inspection level, tackle and equipment for the boat, new electronics....etc. I think there are some incredibly awesome boats on this site for sale right now that if I wanted to upgrade, I would take in a heartbeat. Think what or how your gonna use the boat and ask any of us our thoughts. If I had to do it all over again, two things I would have looked harder at getting already on the boat. FIRST is an AUTOPILOT.....even if its just my son and I out fishing, it can get hard to keep the boat straight, while he is reeling in a fish and keeping it out of lines, let alone if we get a double or a triple going. On windy days (and that can be common up here) an autopilot would make that SOOOOOOOOO much easier to manage. SECOND, would be overhear rocket launcher's to get my rods out of the way more. I figured I could manage without this, but realizing I much rather have it than not. Okay...that was my three cents. Good Luck and keep us posted. Welcome!!!!! -

looking for a used low profile swivel base and also a 9" gimbal mount. Found one and am using it on the starboard side and love it, now want another one for the port side, if anyone has a used one sitting around not being used. Didnt want to buy a "new" one, if someone out there has a used one. Tx Jason

crazy fight Port Bay 7/3
reelintense replied to Rippin'Line's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Yeah.....hate it when that happens! Had a mid teen fish dive under diver, pass the rigger, take a left turn and back under the boat, wrapping and ultimately cutting the main line losing both the lure in his mouth and the slider line. With kings, ya just never know! -
Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Outta Line ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 7-3-12 Time on Water: 7-10am Weather/Temp: 70-80's Wind Speed/Direction: west/calm Waves: <1 Surface Temp: 69-70 Location: north west of Bear Creek LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 7 Total Boated: 5 Species Breakdown: 3 kings, small coho and a laker Hot Lure: white SD/green or blue hammer fly and yellow NBK Trolling Speed: 2.5-3.0 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 140-210 Lure Depth: 80, 90 & 110 on riggers, 200' on mag diver, 300 on normal dipsy ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Great day to be on the water and wish we could have stayed out longer, but alas a party this afternoon is calling our name. My son and I were able to slide out for a couple of hours this morning and the fishing continues to cooperate. We set up in 120foot 3 riggers and 2 divers and went north west into the currents and small chop. First fish came on the diver....300foot back a white glow crush with green hammer fly and he lost it 40 foot from the boat. Guess was a laker, by the way it played. Shortly there after we took another hit on the 90' rigger with the yellow NBK and a nice 6 lb laker. We started to slip out deeper and over 170foot, took a small coho on the same 90' rigger. Then the mag diver ripped and I was into a decent 14lb king, that played like a larger fish. Still happy all the same. While i was hauling that in, the same 90' rigger went peeling line and my son Josh was into a steelie or small king, is my guess, but it ran to the surface...took one jump and gave us our lure back!!! Well win some you lose some. At this point we had slid out to 220 and the screen was blank and I reset the lines and made a SE troll back to the 140 foot line that held bait and fish earlier. No hits.....kind of a small lull in the action for about an hour from 8:45 to 9:45 and we were planning on pulling lines around 10. I made one more turn to head north west to the 170 foot line again, where we had last marked some nice fish around 100-120 foot down. Next thing you know the mag diver set at 220 foot back with a white green crush SD and blue hammer fly starts SCREAMING.....and fast. I handed the line to Josh and said he aint done. That fish passed 300 foot like nothing....I looked at Josh and said he's just getting started. Ripped line past 400 foot and was still flying. I tightened the drag a bit to slow him down and he did around 460 foot back. I started yanking lines and Josh fought it for the next 20-25 minutes. And then his largest King Salmon to date (he's 14yo) hit the deck and the smiles and hi fives began! That my friends is a large smile and what makes a dad's heart beat proudly! The king was released to fight another day!!!! Tight lines everyone and Happy 4th of July!!!

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Outta Line ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 7-1-12 Time on Water: 6:30-10am Weather/Temp: sunny 70's Wind Speed/Direction: 15knt out of the West Waves: 1-2 => 3-4 Surface Temp: 68.5 Location: northwest of Bear Creek LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 6 Total Boated: 5 Species Breakdown: 3-lakers, a king, a brown Hot Lure: green NBK Trolling Speed: 2.5-3.0 SOG Down Speed: heaven only knows Boat Depth: 150-170 Lure Depth: 90' & 110' riggers, 200 mag dipsy, 300 reg dispy ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Well it was a bit windier and wavier then I expected when i saw the NOAA reports. We set up in 100fow and i tried running six lines....3 divers, 3 riggers. My son was having a nasty time trying to control the boat into the west/northwest wind which was picking up and the blooming current was putting so much blow back on the lines and riggers, it was looking like a good scenario for a nasty tangle. I read several reports this week of people wrapping riggers and diver lines or copper lines around each other.... I did get 6 lines into the water, but when the first fish (a laker off the deep 110 rigger on the green killer NBK) came and got tangled in the high setting on that rigger, cause lines were sideways, I decided to only drop one line back down. I yanked the high dispy on the port side and ran only 4 lines the rest of the morning. After trolling out NW to about 200 fow and battling currents and no more hits....I am sure due to the currents below that without a subtroll, i have no idea how fast the lures were going...we turned and headed east with the waves (much easier ) Soon after in 170fow, the mag diver set back 200ft with a white/crush green glow SD and blue hammer fly took a rip and my daughter had to put down her book for a nice 9-10lb king. (remember the part about book later).... After a nice 15 minute fight we had it to the back of the boat when the deep rigger took another rip and my son was into an 8lb laker. Thank God we were trolling with the waves, which for me is like autopilot! So king into boat, pictures taken and fish into cooler for a few friends that have complained I am not bringing them my bounty! And we get the laker into the boat...beautiful color....FAT laker, pictures and back into Lake O, without crapping up my boat!! Reset lines as we continued to make out way east.....getting shallower as we went. I was talking to Upgrady (Hans) who was fishing out of IBay and said his screen was loaded at the 140-150fow range and then we hit that depth and same screen here to the east. Lots of bait and good marks 80-110 foot down...right where the riggers were parked. Took three more hits, another laker on the green NKB and a small brown on the 42second spoon at 90foot. My daughter, who was continuing to read her book and get some sun on the bow of the boat, was now feeling the ill effects of reading in waves that were now 3 footers. It was snotty out there and she decided it was best if we tried chumming the waters. Needless to say, we pulled lines and got back to shore so she could rest a bit. Probably for the best, as I tried running back into the waves at one point and that was futile, so unless we wanted to troll to Sodus, we were gonna have to stop anyways. All in all, a beautiful day...time with the kids....and we caught a few fish to keep us smiling!!!! Now lets see what this afternoon holds! I'm off on vacation til Thursday! Tight Lines all and HAPPY 4th of July!!! Jason

the best way to ensure large salmon......DONT ENTER...! -
It's all about how you hold it lol It was 31" long, but looked like 45" in the way the pic came out haha. LOL As for sea fleas....i have no idea, but I was having a ton of problems with the 15lb test on my riggers last weekend...I stopped using my sliders, because it was SOOOOOO bad I could not go 15 minutes without cleaning them. I took some line off and added 250+ feet of 30lb Trilene Big Game, with a 20 foot lead and ran sliders all day yesterday with almost NO sea fleas. My diver rods were coated just above the dipsy, but that was all, the riggers were basically clean. So not sure what it was, or why, but since I know the sea fleas were still there and it was not on my rigger lines, i have to believe that the diameter of the 30lb test was the difference. Jason
