  1. Thanks.
  2. I would definitely be interested. Do you know if it is a GL3, GLX, IMX etc?
  3. If anyone knows of or has any G Loomis rod blanks for sale please contact me. Specifically looking for fly rod blanks but I am interested in whatever is out there. Thanks for looking (585) 370-8659 Jack
  4. For a little while we did. We didn't get in real close though. It was already pretty crowded from the looks of it.
  5. Headed straight over to the river this morning and set up in 35 fow. Took one king about 8-10lbs fairly quickly on an NK 28 black and white on a small dipsy about 50 ft. back. Nothing happening for the rest of the morning until we got out front of I-Bay. One small brown there on a Stinger blue dolphin off of a downrigger. It is nice to fish in the cooler weather.
  6. We headed out after work for a quick fish. Set up in 55fow at 5:30 and worked out to 80 fow. Took a small brown almost right away on an NK C5 fire tiger off a dipsy. Had another hit on the other dipsy a little later and that was it. We marked some nice pods of fish from time to time between 65 and 75 fow. Water was about 20 degrees cooler than last weekend. 48 degrees 55 down over 75 fow. Not that temp has alot to do with it right now. I think we should have stayed a little shallower but hindsight is always easy. The weather held out long enough to get a few hours in which was reward enough in itself.
  7. Nice!!! Congrats on breaking in the boat for salmon. Looks like a few days of bad weather may be coming, but I'm sure I'll see you out there over the next couple of weeks.
  8. Nice fishing. I've had to do the old push it through and cut off the barb routine once, that's enough for me. I swear those fish wait until your hand gets close enough and then try to exact some revenge.
  9. After some time off the water and some less than stellar days on, we got back to it Saturday. Started out of the chute a little late, 6:30, in 35fow with a stairway to heaven J-plug on one rigger and a 69 series evil eye, chartreuse and green, on the other. Around 45 fow the evil eye took a small king. 7 or 8 lbs. We worked out to 75 fow eventually adding two dipsys and a lead core off the board. For the rest of the day it was a f/f and NK C5 bite. The f/f combo at 55 down over 75fow was taking fish. The Fire Tiger NK C5 on a dipsy setting 3 200' back did pretty well too. Nothing else moved. We ended up 6 for 8 with 3 more kings between 17 and 20lbs on the scale, 1 small brown and a med steelie. The two lost were both respectable kings. As I was fighting one, Larry says he feels a double coming. Sure enough the dipsy fires and that king runs the wire right through everything and cuts the line my king was on. 5 minutes later we dropped the second one and all we had to show for it was a small mess and big smiles. Somewhere a king is dragging a NBK spiny with an Ito KJ Special. Started packing it in around 11am. Still waiting on the pictures.......Larry? Hoping the fishing holds for a couple more weeks.
  10. The more I read on this topic, the more I think next years way of doing things is going to change for us. The one problem I run into with our system, is when I take someone outside of our team out fishing I can't have them sign up for the derby because of the complications it causes. I would need a second agreement between myself and those friends that would be separate and exclusive to them along with some agreement with the usual team regarding winnings with other people. It makes my brain hurt. Pay the gas share that day by the trip and share in the money if you are on board. That seems much simpler. The boat takes a percentage of any substantial winnings for the slip, insurance, maintenance, payments, etc. If it is a $100 prize, then screw the percentage, it's just a few beers some Friday night for everyone. (I like expensive beer) Thanks to all for the input. It wasn't my question to begin with, but it certainly helped me out.
  11. We run under the agreement that everyone splits the winnings and everyone splits the expenses evenly whether you are on the boat that day or not for the LOC. The only stipulation is you have to actually actively participate in the fishing more than just a "couple of times". This means that whether you are on the boat or not on any given day, you pay your share of the gas and stand to win an equal share of the money. This works only because we are a four person crew who all want to fish every time if possible. One day tournaments are done on a who's there that day basis. My thought behind that is that what might be learned on Saturday may result in a money fish on Sunday. We have had the "good fortune" to never put a fish on the board.
  12. Wow, what a steelie. I can only imagine the acrobatics. LOC money or not, it is still a fish that never gets forgotten.
  13. Well, I guess they are definitely coming in shallow then. Thanks for the info, good to know for the weekend. There are only two browns on the LOC board last time I looked.
  14. I heard today that guys fishing from the I-Bay pier are doing pretty well on the browns in the morning. I also work with a guy who kayaks off of Webster Park and he said he saw schools of browns in real close. Both instances are the old "I know a guy who told me stories" but who knows?
  15. Tried to get out around 3:30 but it was just too choppy to be worth it. Messed around in the bay until 5:15 and tried again. Better but not great. Headed out and set lines at 125 fow and worked out to 250 fow and back again. 1 release with no one home 95 down over 140 on the way out. No action until we hit 160 fow on the way back in after I dropped a f/f down for the skunk saving laker. While releasing the line from the rigger I managed to accidentally hit the free spool lever and create an awesome bird's nest out of the reel. So one of the guys on the boat got a quick lesson in hand fishing for Lakers. Best method proved to be one wrap around the stern rod holder. Managed a small steelie right after that on a slider. It was starting to get close to dark at that point so 15 more minutes and we called it. Seems like some cooler water moved back in again.
  16. Perfect timing on that report. I'm headed out tonight after work. After the blow last weekend I had no idea where to start. That is a fat looking Steelhead, nice color.
  17. We usually just troll stick baits nice and slow. The only days we can do it is bad weather days because no other boats are churning up the bay. We pull the sticks on the riggers because it allows us to run em in a wide range of depths and you can basically follow the contours of the bay. Less than 30 fow, 15 or so being the best. Points and flats. You have to watch the rod tips real close or you will miss em. They definitely don't hit like a king and seldom release from the rigger no matter how shallow we set the line in the release.
  18. Hit the water at 6:30 and set up around 75 fow. Lots of warm water. We marked fish from 80 fow out to 120 fow and then the screen was blank. We fished it out for a while to no avail and decided to pull em when it felt like the weather was picking up. Skunk, not even a single mud chicken or skippy to save us this time. We put down some stick baits in the bay and did some walleye trolling instead. Picked up a 17" and 22" walleye and called it a day. Don't know if the weather is gonna cooperate for tomorrow or not but I am hoping.
  19. That kinda sucks, I always liked NKs. I was ordering them online directly from NK for the past couple of years but they were always out of stock on most stuff. I had a feeling things might not be going well for them. So this guy in Avon is there every week? There are a few Nk colors I would love to stock up on if they have become unavailable.
  20. Thanks
  21. Is there still pen rearing going on in the Genny?
  22. What happened to NK? I just checked their website to try and find the names of those two spoons we were using and their selection is about 10% of what it used to be.
  23. Kind of a late report but may be worth something to someone. We fished Saturday morning in the 150 to 250 range off I-Bay and did not move a rod. Tried some different stuff throughout the morning, a lot of green/black and green/orange spoons but nothing turned the trick. Came in to 120-140 at the end of the morning and did 6 lakers on cowbells and F/Fs in about an hour or two and headed in. Sunday we started around 100 and fished a rigger 80-90 down, a rigger 50 down and two divers probably somewhere in between. Sea sick waddler, dirty white boy, and two UV NKs. I don't know the names of the NKs but one was a white with black mag and the other was a green and yellow 28 with a white back. We parked the rigger with the green and yellow NK at 49 deg all day and it was the workhorse. It started with a 4-5 lb brown, then a 13 lb king, then 2 skippy kings and a skippy steelie and finished with a mature king that we lost after it put on quite a show behind the boat. The white and black NK took a 10lb laker on the other rigger at the end around 110 down. All of the fish except the laker and brown came in 220 fow 88 feet down. I'm not sure if it was the spoon or the temp on the 88 feet down but that was the hot set up.
