  1. We took two salmon this weekend. One king 57 down over 390 fow and one coho on 7 color lead core in about 250 fow. There does not seem to be too many salmon around right now and last week there was a lot of east wind to mess things up. Earlier this year all the action was in the top 40 feet. I'm betting that if you find a good depth there are probably a lot of people who would love to hear about it right now. Good luck
  2. We were laughing on the boat about the fact that anything besides a sunfish would actually hit something that equates to half of a circus peanut. I wonder who thew first person to run one of those cowbell/peanut rigs was.
  3. Fished east of I-Bay on Saturday evening. Started in about 150 and worked out to 225. Fairly slow with one steelie and one coho. Both came on a Silver Horde spoon on 7 colors of lead. Don't know the name, just green and orange with silver in the middle. Had 3 or 4 releases with nobody home on the same spoon. Sunday we went straight north from the bay and dropped the lines around 240 fow at about 5:45am. Screen was pretty barren. Moved out deeper and hit a 13lb and change king in 390 fow 57 down on a rigger with some spoon I have never seen before. A Larry special from the 80's. Black on the back with a fire tiger type pattern on the front. Everything was slow for awhile so we moved west towards Braddocks. We took a good hit on carbon 14 on 300' of copper in 250 fow but no one home. Eventually made our way back toward shallower water. Found a nice pocket of lakers in 135 fow on the bottom and ran a laker program for the remainder. Did 5 lakers between 5 and 10 lbs on chartreuse cowbells and peanuts. 6 for 8 on the day with lakers saving our butts. Once again I do not have the pictures but I'm sure I will soon. The flies were many and merciless. Jack
  4. OK got some of the pictures emailed to me. I may have to adjust my weight estimates on a few of the fish......... They were all actually 17-20 lbs. Whatever, still a good time.
  5. Absolutely. Maybe we can set up an evening trip sometime. I'll be ironing out a few problems this coming week that I developed this past week but I should be 100% again soon.
  6. It must have been a good party. We finished cleaning out the boat and went for a beer around 3:30 and you guys still weren't back at the dock yet. Nice pike.
  7. Fished Saturday in shallow to looking for some brownies out near Hedges, not much happening though. Moved toward 200 fow still east of the bay and picked up 2 small kings and a steelie. One king and the steelie came in together on a rigger with a cheater. Watermelon was the spoon producing. All in all a pretty slow day for us. Sunday we fished in front of the bay and out east a little bit. Picked up a decent brown on a rigger to start, maybe 6 or 7 pounds. I honestly forgot the depth. Spent the rest of the day between 120 and 250 fow. I think 190 was productive and 135 as well. Pretty much just stayed on our GPS points Plenty of marks. Good bite on a little bit of everything, divers, riggers, lead, spoons mostly with a little bit of fly action. We were dragging a spinny and fly behind a diver, or thought we were. Brought in the diver and the rest had broken off. Don't know how long we dragged that for. Watermelon was hot on the riggers 25-40 feet down with some action on the 42nd spoon and fly as well. Divers were probably running about 70-8- feet down. Mixed bag with the lakers being the majority. Four or five 7-10 pound lakers. Dropped a nice steelie at the boat and boated a couple of small kings. Dropped 3 or 4 fish as well. Better day than Saturday was for sure. Someone else has all the pictures. A likely story I know.
  8. That sounds like the correct strategy. Especially the beer and Warren Haynes part.
  9. Good old "Rubber Lips". That thing is a P.I.G. hog!
  10. The transom was replaced this past winter and apparently, aside from not replacing the bellows, when they wired everything back up they wired the auto bilge pump to the incorrect side of the battery shutoff. So the bilge pump never even turned on. My fault for not doing more thorough testing. It doesn't look like any water got into the engine or fuel tank at least and all of the electronics seem OK. I'll be back up and going in a couple of weeks hopefully. Whom do you use for your outdrive work?
  11. Hey Hans, Nice fishing. You didn't happen to glance over towards my boat when you got back by any chance? The bellows gave way on Sunday sometime or another and she almost went completely down. Fortunately someone noticed and called the marina. I'm just trying to figure out when the problem started and how fast she took on the water. Everything was dry when I left her on Saturday afternoon. I don't know what would cause that problem when she was just sitting in the slip. Jack
  12. That's good to know, thanks for the info. I've been wanting to start doing a little more Walleye fishing this year.
  13. Bad idea. Tried to head west out of I Bay Thursday afternoon. There was a 3 plus foot chop, a strong west wind and nothing but milkshake as far as the eye could see. We didn't think it was worth it to fight the wind and waves west past the river so we went back into the bay and set up some sticks for Walleye and Pike. Gold and black Challenger and a fire tiger Yozuri. Picked up a double header just south of the bridge and landed a 4 lb Brown. The other got off but felt like a decent fish. Trolled through a few more times, lots of marks but no takers. To the dock for a cold beer. Hopefully things will clear up a little by the weekend.
  14. Way to go on the solo program and thanks for the report. It's always fun fighting, driving and netting all at once, I will be out there tomorrow evening.
  15. We were wondering where everyone was today. We only saw two other boats all day. It must have been all that debris.
  16. We had a decent brown bite east of Shipbuilders today in 10-20 fow. No steelies or salmon though in the shallow water for us. The best action was out towards Webster Park and Four Mile Creek. Good luck.
  17. Fished east of I-Bay between Shipbuilders and Hedges first thing. Solid brown bite between 10 and 20 fow. Temp was holding around 45 degrees. We went 18 for 25 with the biggest going about 8lbs. Froggy pattern Challenger did most of the damage but the silver and black Rattlin Rogue had good action also. We had a couple of fun passes where we couldn't keep more than 3 of 6 rods in the water at a time. We had scattered luck on the riggers. We moved out a little deeper later into the stained water and picked up a couple of small Kings. Temp was down around 41 degrees toward the 100fow mark. Saw a bunch of Lakers out around 60-70fow. A few took a run at the riggers but none were that committed. It was nice to see the weather hold out like it did after rain had been the forecast all week.
  18. Finally got the new boat out on her first trip. Fished east of I-Bay Friday morning on a basic inside run. Ended up 7 for 9 on browns and steelies. Nothing of impressive size. I had the privilege of dropping the first fish on the new boat and it definitely felt and looked like the biggest we had on for the morning. Orange was the hot color whether it was a stick or a spoon. The silver and black had some luck too. Did not see much of anything as far as colored water went. Headed west for the afternoon run and moved out a little deeper. Immediately did a 10lb king on a doctored green and yellow NK and then a handful of browns and steelies again. 6 for 8 on the afternoon. Came in when the lightning started. Coming in on a 24 ft Thompson hard top over a wide open 18 ft Blue Fin in the wind and rain kept us smiling in spite of the weather. Saturday we went West and the fishing was slow for us. 2 for 4 with a steelie and a king. Not much size to either. Continued to enjoy the bigger boat though as the chop came and went all morning. The best catch of the weekend was a rod and reel after they were dropped in the lake on a rigger with a fish on the line. Fish didn't release and I jumped over and brought the rigger up and the line was still there. I hand over handed the rod and reel back onto the boat and landed the fish. Ya gotta love a tight release and a small fish sometimes.
  19. I would be interested in some dipseys and spoons. I also live in Walworth. What is your address and when is a good time to come look? Jack
  20. I Bay can be pretty good this time of year. I upgraded to a bigger boat this year but I was running a 17' 6" Blue Fin in past years and if the lake was too rough in the spring we would just fish the bay. There is some good action in the southeast corner for browns. Watch the points, they come up quick. We have also done steelies in the deeper water. Don't go too far south, it gets pretty shallow back there. Watch your graph and you will find a shelf that cuts across the entire bay east/west. Stay just north of that. Anything south of that is usually 3 feet or less. There are docks in at the county launch on the north end. Make sure you drive in to the launch from the west as the bridge is out now.Good luck.
  21. If you prefer to just ship that is fine too.
  22. Yes, I still do. Where are you in Sodus? I am not far from there. You can reach me at 585-370-8659 and set up a time to meet. Jack
