Got my dad out the day before, and we didn't do so well. Today we had my dad and Jon. We left the dock at 5:30 right after the storm had past. We headed west out of the channel and set up in about 80 feet of water. We set 2 riggers with sliders, 4 wires, 300ft copper and a 2 color lead core and a 8 color lead core. By 100 feet we had a pretty good screen. We worked from 100 to 150FOW marking stuff at the 50 ft range and some huge marks on the bottom. We worked all th way down to 06 in front of Hughes. We started the day of with a 6lb laker off the rigger. The. We got about a 6 inch brown off the 2 color lead core! It was the same set up that got our alewive the other day! We went 7 for 9 with lakers all coming off white board green dots with a ultra green glow fly out 333ft on a setting 3. We also got a steelie on the 300ft copper! We couldn't find the kings today but it was fun to keep the rods moving! -

Woke up this morning at 5:00am and meet at the boat at 5:30am. Jon said Thursday that his dad would like to come out so he joined us today! Unfortunately I lost my voice so it was tough explaining things. Our goal was to work the fish we did the following morning. We ran out to 80feet and started to set up. Set riggers at 80 and 60 with uv tuxedos and seasick waddlers. Them put out 4 wires with spin doctor flys. As we are doing this jon yells, "fish on" The 60 foot riggerwas bouncing. The time we noticed it he disnt hook up. We then put a 8 color lead core on one planer board with a hash wild, and on the other planet board we put out a 2 color lead core with a mixed veggie. Down the chute we ran a 300ft pulling a purple dolphin. We ran back through where we hooked up and then headed north to our waypoints. The screen was blank and the fish were not there at 8. We trolled out to 270 and then headed west. There's was nothing and by this Piont it was about 10:30. We decided to give our waypoints one more try and we are glad we did. As soon was we hit them the screen lit up. We changed a diver over the a blue dolphin board with a hammer fly and it wasn't down for about 10 minutes before it took off. Jon had a nice fish on! He landed the 13lb king and we got that deployed again. We made a loop back around and then the 60 foot rigger goes again with die hards. Mike landed a 6lb laker. We trolled some more, still working the waypoints and the 80 foot rigger bends down! Had a nice king on but horsed it to much and lost it. We now are 2 for 4. We ended the day when the 8 color lead core with a Shelly snack takes off. Mike was on a nice fish. Unfortunately it broke the leader so now we were 2 for 5 to finish the day because a storm was approaching. All and all it was a tough day fishing ! Hopefully be back at it again tomorrow, good luck out there -Apple Boy

After a great long week at Boys State I was ready to hot the water. Slept on the boat and had Jon meet me at 5:30am. The weather the night before I was unsure on, but it ended up to be a great day! As we were approaching the channel there's was something you don't see everyday. There was a boat that hit the pier between the channel and Charles Piont. He wasn't even close to the channel. We decided to try for browns considering the hard northeast wind we had a few days prior. We sent down east of maxwell and threw out 2 riggers 3 flatlined with split shots and a 2 color lead core. We trolled untill about 7:30am picking up a alewive that hit a chicken wing spoon and a 5lb brown that hit a sea sick waddler. We slid out and set in at 80ft. We set out two riggers with sliders 3 wires and a 8 color lead core. We worked northeast heading to some way Piont from previous weekends. We had a decent screen in 140 but no takers so we kept heading north. We then work all the way out to 230 and then turned back south east. By 215 we had a good screen and we worked that line east! Around 10am the 200 diver on started screaming. I got on the rod and it peeled out to 440ft with a nice Ariel show! Jon was doing great stearing the boat untill the 170 rigger popped. I stated to reel down on it but nobody was home. It hit the free slider. Jon then set the rigger to 80 feet with the UV tuxedos. (I still am battling the fish ) 10 seconds down and it starts jumping, DOUBLED, Jon had a fiesty steelie. It shot out of the water and going a crazy. It went about 10 feet under the boat and wrapped itself around the dipsy and other rigger. It was a mess but we got things straightened out. It was about a 5lb steelie. By this time the rain was coming. The the king approached the boat Jon was on the net. And he netted it it did not like that and this king wrapped itself around the rigger also! It was tough untangled a 10 foot rod around a down rigger and a decent king on! Got it in the boat and was about 23-24lbs ! Worked back that line and Jon picked up a small skip and then we had to pull lines and head in at 11:30am. It was a great day out there and the weather conditions were awesome! The lake was glass! Heading back out in the AM, good luck everyone! -Apple Boy

Well, after walking 12 hours straight in a relay in life for cancer 6pm to 6am friday night decided to fish the following after noon. Went out for a few hours from 3 to 6 pm. Ran out and set down 80 FOW ad by 90 FOW the screen was looking good. Marked fish all the way out to 155 with the occasional bait pod from bottom to about 100ft. Ran a 6 Rod spread with Two riggers pulling a sea sick waddler and on the other rigger a purple die hard. We pulled two dipsys with one pulling a chrome board green dots pulling a ultra green glow fly and the other dipsy pulling a white board green dots pulling a hypnotist fly. On one board we pulled a 300 ft copper pulling a wonder bread spoon and on the other board a 8 color lead core with a hawg wild spoon. ( All the spoons are the stinger size) We fished out to 200 but turned around to work the fish and bait pods we were marking. On a south troll in 150fow the 110ft rigger starts jumping with the purple die hard. I got the rod and handed it off to jon. By this time the wind was picking up a little so with just two people is was a little tricky keeping the boat strait. The fish screamed out a decent amount of line and several minutes later there was a 12lb king in the net! First King of the year on Apple Boy! We fished till about 6 and pulled lines as we could see on the radar that a pretty good storm was popping up. Sunday I figured the wind would be howling but at about 12 i called my cousin and her boy friend and went out for another after noon bite. 9Really hope i can get a morning bit in some time.. First time trolling and it wasnt the best day. Talked to some people and said the fishing was tough. We fished only for and hour or two and got blown off the lake by the wind and waves. They will be coming out in a few weekends so i can get them on some fish when the weather cooperates. We did manage to tangle a dipsy in the 300ft copper. The Cotton was horrible out there and running high lines was almost impossible. Ill be out there again this coming weekend!

Decided to do the first night bite of the year. Connor and I went down to the boat around 2:00pm and started to get out spread figured out. We wanted to try and find those kings and steelies. We left the marina at 3. As we headed out the shoot we had a hard north east wind, and that we did not like. We knew the fishing would be tough. We set down in 70ft of water and Connor started to set one side as I did the other side. He did his side for the kings and mine was the high side. On the riggers we had seasick waddler an on the other one purple dolphin with a red spoon on the slider. Then we set out two dipsys at 220ft and 300ft. We had the 300ft pulling meat behind a black green dot spinny and on the other we had a chrome board green dot spin doctor pulling a ultra green glow fly. Off the boards we had on one side a 300ft copper with wonder bread fly and spin doctor and on the other side we had a 8 color lead core with a hang wild and a 2 color lead core with a orange uv tuxedo. A lot of the spoons were the stinger size. We trolled all the way out to 300 with out marking many fish. Our best screen was in 125 feet. On our way back we decided to get on that line an wad west zig zagging back and forth from 100 to 125. By this time is was about 5:30pm And not a single hit. We changed depths and lures . By the time we got to our way pionts from the last few weekends we pointed it north. We had one rip on the dipsy an it was gone when I got it out of the rod holder it was Gone. By this time we were out in 180 so we looped back through there and by this time we were almost out of day light. We decided to pack up the Rods going 0 for 1 . Cleared everything and had the last rIgger pulling that purple dolphin. Connor was trying to pop the rod but just couldn't. I helpe him out and popped the rod and brought the rigger up. We were all feeling skunked untill I hear Connor say " it didn't release." I went back there and he is yanking on the rod to try to get it to "release" the rod had a great bend so Connor handed the rod off and Lexus brought in a nice 8 lb laker to finish the day without a skunk on apple boy! Hoping for some better wind direction this coming weekend

Went down Saturday afternoon after SATs with Connor and some friends to get apple boy ready for Sunday morning. We Spooled up a 300ft copper on a convector 55. Got all of our rods ready for the next morning. Sunday we met at 6am. Today we were looking for that loc fish with Rich and myself in the adult section and Connor in the youth. As we came out of the shoot we were wondering if we should work inside waters or head out. We saw zero boats in for browns so we knew not fishing Saturday our Best bet was to head out. We set down in 50 feet and started I set two riggers. One right on the bottom with a silver and yellow nk and on the 25ft rigger with a sea sick waddler. While Connor was setting these up I was getting the boards out. On one side we had a 8 color lead core, pulling a uv tuxedo and then a flat like 90 back with a smith wick. Then Connor set out the dipsys With one pulling a chrome board green dots hypnotist fly and the other a white board greet dots ultra green glow fly. We kept the boat headed northwest and we worked out to 250ft and worked back in forth from 250 to 100 working west. By 9:30 we were 0 and 1. We through out the 300ft copper on the other board with a wonder bread board and fly. We decidin to go work the waypoints from our previous weekend. We headed into te waypoints heading due south. As we got to 150feet things heated up. We head a 7lb laker on the rigger following the bottom. We have had several fish on the dipsy and rigger an then the 300foot copper starts going. I get the rod and then the rigger goes again. Doubled up! Rich grabbed the rigger and I handed the copper off to Connor 😜 Rich brought his 8lb laker in and Connor was still reeling. Few minute later there was a 14lb laker in the net. We all made the desicion to keep fishing and find a bigger one. Few minutes later the 8 color lead core takes a hit. I got that rod and fought this fish. We then doubled up again! The rigger rod just bent down to the water and didn't let up! Connor was on a decent size fish. I or mine in and netted it and Connor don't gain any line yet. I got the 8 color back out and on the board . Connor fought this fish for 30 minutes! He did awesome! We fished untill 2 and went 9 for 11. Went to warrens and the official wieght was 18lb 10oz which puts Connor in the lead for the lake trout division!! It was a great day out on apple boy ! Connor did a great job with everything and it was an awesome day with rich and Connor. Check out www.loc.org and Connor on the front page!! -
Was able to get the new apple boy out for the first time this season after working on it all winter! Our crew consisted of Jon, my brother Jacob and myself! Jake last year went out in old apple boy and it was the only skunk of the year and it was 90 degrees! he never went out again. Todays goal was to get him his first fish trolling. We We left the dock at 7am and went west out of the chute. We started to set up east of maxwell in 20 feet of water. We ran two riggers and 4 planer board lines with spoons on riggers with sppons/ sticks on planer lines. We only had 4 lines in the water when the 10 foot rigger back 100 bent right over. Jacob was on his first fish! A nice 8lb brown. Got that set up and still only had 5 rod in the water now and the 2 color lead core of the board starts takeing out line. Jon was fighting this and as it got to the back of the boat the fish spit the hook. Worked the inside waters untill 10 and we made the decision to pick up and head deeper. We set down in 70 ft of water and jacob was running the wheel. he was just putting us on the fish! Jon and I were setting up the 8 color lead core and two riggers and the starboard rigger fires! I reeled in the first laker of the day! We kept working for 50 -90ft picking up 7 lakers! biggest one was 15 lbs All in all it was a great day on the water and we caught a good amount of fish for our shake down! We went 7 for 8
