  1. This is what I do for walleyes in Lake Erie. It's a different fishery but the idea is the same. I remove the front hook of the stick bait and then tie directly to the stick bait. No snap. The whole idea is to enhance the action of the stickbait. Dennis
  2. I will equipping a new boat with new electronics this spring. I will purchase a Gen2 HDS7 by Lowrance. I have two other Lowrance units on two separate boats. One is a GPS/fishfinder and one is a fishfinder only. Both have the paddle wheel for boat speed. That is how I determine my boat speed while trolling. I have never used the SOG (speed over ground) feature of the GPS unit to troll with. The new boat with the HDS7 will be used in the current of the St. Lawerence River near Cape Vincent and out into Lake Ontario to Henderson Harbor. Should I bother with a paddle wheel transducer on the new unit or just get used to the SOG feature of the GPS? How to you determine your boat speed while trolling? Dennis
  3. It's a police model.
  4. I changed years ago to NGK B7HS-10. I have a Johnson 90HP 2 stroke. I troll a lot on Erie for hours at a time. I run synthetic 2 stroke oil injected. Engine never skips a beat and never fouls these plugs. Dennis
  5. I have a '66 Corvette which is of course fiberglass. In certain areas like door or interior trim parts the screw holes in the fiberglass can get stripped and lose their hold. I have used the PLASTIC dry wall anchors for certain trim parts and their screws. Plastic anchors on a boat would not rust of course. Dennis
  6. I will be getting new electronics for my boat this spring. I am headed for the Lowrance HDS Series probably a HDS7. Dennis
  7. If you go to their website they have several applications. One of them is for boats. Fill out your information and they will send you a sample. Dennis
  8. Thanks for the link to dri-dek. I really like the looks of that product. Is your application a "sheet" or individual "tiles". Did you have to trim anything to fit or were you lucky enough to fit the dri-dek in the dimensions of your boat. I want to use this stuff over a fiberglass floor of a Grady White Tournament 190. Dennis
  9. It sounds to me that while you were trying to untangle and reload your cable, especially if it jumped off your reel, that your counter is now off according to your newly reinstalled cable. You want to now "zero" out your counters. I don't know what kind of counters you have but some have reset buttons. Others, like mine you have to just simply remove the counter and roll the gear on the counter untill you reach all zeroes again and reinstall. One note I do is to zero my counters on the boat with a cannonball on the rigger. I lower the cannonball to the surface of the water and lock it in that position. I then zero my counters and reinstall. This makes the math easier when you are fishing. If you want to run the ball 50 feet down you now know that number on your counter is the 50 feet you wanted and not the extra distance above the water when your rigger is all the way up. Just the way i do it.
  10. This boat is an older Grady White Tournament 190 IO 470 motor. I have a second boat, a Lund, with an outboard. It also has two batteries, 1 cranking and 1 deep cycle for the bow mount trolling moter. Whenever I run the deep cycle down I charge it from a 110v charger in the garage and then on a maintainer after that. I have never had a boat that would charge both batteries on board not to mention a deep cycle. So just trying to sort things out here so I can do the right thing when the time comes to get some new batteries. Thanks for your input and advice.
  11. I recently purchased a boat that the previous owner has set up with a dual battery system off a switch. Both batteries are marine batteries. Boat has electric downriggers, paper graph and fish finder/depth sounder. One battery is a marine cranking/starting battery but the other is a deep cycle marine battery. Any reason why they should be different? My question is the deep cycle. Two batteries are nice but can't I just have two cranking batteries?
  12. After doing more looking around on the net it seems I have the 3 position up/down switch but the other item close to the switch must be a circuit breaker reset. So going forward I believe I do not have the PIC function or the short stop system.
  13. I just purchased a 1983 Grady Tournament 190 IO Mercruiser 470. Below is a pic of the area below the deck of my Grady just in front of the doghouse. There is a storage tray that goes here and is removed for the photo. At the right side of the pic you can see two drain holes with the plugs removed. I am guessing here but one must be for the fuel tank compartment in case there was a fuel spill it would hold raw gasoline back from the bilge area and the other must drain this compartment itself from deck water. All of this leading to the rear bilge pump. Can anybody confirm my idea?
  14. I do see the knob near the up down toggle. Thanks, I now know what that is about. Would this feature be used for a speed/temp sensor at the ball? BTW I did not get the cannon balls with the deal and perhaps that is why. OK the pic below shows the end of the cable. There is a Roemer slider release. I have used sliders before but not Roemers. Don't know much about those. I do have what appears to be the non metalic black insulator. Thanks for your quick reply.
  15. I just bought a used Grady White Tournament 190 last week. The boat has two Cannon Magnum 10A Electric Riggers 4 foot booms mounted on swivel bases and Gimbal mounts. I have no owners manual. All my previous downriggers were manual up/down. The boat is in storage now so I can't really play with it. The riggers do have a ball retrieve cord and I can see how that works. They do have the three position toggle switch. Question is in the auto up position are these equipped with the ion system that stops the retrieve when the cable gets out of the water? Thanks in advance
