I agree. Been using my lx3tc for 5 or 6 yrs. the adjustable zoom is key.

That's awesome. We don't have cats around here. Hay sets have been working well for me with a trap in front and one in the back. I have been letting coons go but I think I've created a problem there as I have some diggers now. Sometimes it's a fox or coyote doing the digging too. The water is bad now with the rain and thaw. These trench sets were hot with visitors every other night but now they're swamped. I have stingers set at the top so maybe I'll get one. This is what they used to look like

Deer season has been over for a few weeks for me. My son broke his hand at basketball and we have harvested 8 deer this year so I started tiling my bathroom and broke the traps out 10 days ago and slowly got my line out on one property. With so many pictures of coyotes here, I had to try to do my part at reducing the population. Well, it's been a battle to say the least. I've been dug up by various coyotes and coons at multiple sets, caught and harvested a few red fox, and released a bunch of coons. But the coyotes have been outsmarting me until this morning. Got this nice male in a set made from the cut soybeans. Got a fox here a few days ago too. Hoping this area keeps heating up and I can save a few fawns from the jaws of these predators this summer.

Got the trap line in this week. The recent cold snap and dusting of snow brought the first predator of the year into one of my hay sets. Missed a coyote on a flat set and had a dirt hole set dug up Wednesday as well. With all the sign and trail camera pics of coyotes around, I think it's going to be a great spot.

Looks like a great place. Not too pricey either.

This thread has been awesome. Great to see all the nice reports and deer taken. It kept me motivated during the slow times. I'm just getting ready to grind up 75 lbs of zesty Italian sausage with peppers and onion in the mix. Soon (hopefully) I'll be grilling them up out on the ice. I know some of you fish Honeoye as we've spoken before. Maybe we'll meet up out there sometime this year.

I only left it for five hrs. After losing a few deer, and long track jobs, I started leaving all deer overnight if I don't see them go down or feel the shot was questionable. I saw both expire. It didn't feel right from the beginning but I never expected them to find and consume an entire deer before I got back. Especially around here where the land is broken up into small wood lots. Lesson learned.

I had to take the chance. If I missed that Christmas party, the wife would have me sleeping outside with the deer. I've let bow kills lay over night with no coyotes touching them. Figured I'd have dinner, a few drinks, do the social thing and come back to get them. I just couldn't believe in five hrs, they ate the whole thing. I brought the mrs out with me and she has an understanding now of why I wanted to get them out and why I trap coyotes. They are getting really bad in close quarters around here.

He looks like a moose. Unfortunately yes my buck season is over. I shot a 9 pt on second day. Happened fast and I've been kicking myself ever since. He was only a 3.5 yr old and could have used a couple years to grow. That's what happens in the thickets though. Not much time to decide to shoot or pass. My son shot his 7 pt an he earlier, same woods. Congrats on your harvest.

Last night I was trapped in my stand until 6:15. Passed on three smaller does at 5:20, then noticed a few more behind me and to the left, standing in the water. I was waiting for them to work out into the field when I heard those familiar footsteps. Sure enough, about 5:35, I see his silhouette coming through the thicket towards the does. He burst through the edge of the field and the does scattered, three went out to middle of the field and two ran back into the brush. He ran into the brush after them and I heard him creeping around until I got down at 6:15. I've seen this buck in the dark now twice, both times in bow range. I hope he makes it to next year. Got him on camera by three stands this yr.

That happened to me the other night too. A beauty 10 pt at 75 yds eating apples. He might have gone 140". Not as wide as my archery buck but had the tine length. All I could do was watch him fade into the darkness. On the bright side, I got a call today informing me that the hundreds of acres of corn surrounding one of my spots was being cut. I guess the deer were pouring out of the fields and back into the woods. I was on daddy duty today but this weekend hopefully I can fill a doe tag or two.

I saw a big 10 pt tonight munching on the apples under an old apple tree, completely ignoring the turnips for now. Couldn't get a picture of him though as it was getting too dark. Nice deer though. He had the tine length that my archery buck was lacking, but not as wide. I'm looking for some nice fat does, but haven't seen a single one since before Halloween.
