  1. From what I've read, the deer don't start eating the turnips until late season after a couple frosts turn the bitter starches into sweet sugars. I sure hope they like these turnips, there's about 70 acres of them on one side, cut corn on the other, and an unpicked apple orchard behind both. These turnips are the size of those huge zucchini you forget about in the garden. Long, fat, and white radish/ turnips. I roasted one for thanksgiving and it fed 15 people. Lol
  2. He's a beauty. Nice, long beams. Turnips looking good too.
  3. I live in Newfane and that pic is definitely from Texas. There was one on Ridge rd this yr with pictures from a very reliable person however. Looked like a small Tom. I'll see if I can dig up the picture from Facebook. I saw one in summer of 2005. Thought it was a deer until the long tail whipped around. It was on Lake Rd, in a field with kids playing next door. A few other people saw it that summer too but then it disappeared. We have a few bears in Newfane as well. I guess if Bears can migrate here so can mountain lions.
  4. How did it work? I've been trying to figure it out myself. I usually get rid of the skin and brine for 24 hrs.
  5. Looks good. Only problem with smoked poultry is the lack of crispy skin. It ends up leathery instead. But I bet the meat is tasty
  6. Love seeing girls with bucks. Makes me have hope my son will find a good one. Lol. Great job
  7. Back to hunting the food for me in 9A. Neighbors came out to their stand after 7 on their side by side. Came all the way down the edge of the cut corn field and hooked a right at the edge of the woods in front of me. I hate dumb, lazy hunters. They've been busy logging the hardwoods here for a couple weeks, so I haven't sat here. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
  8. I'm looking for one for my son. Where r u located? Will u ship if too far from Olcott? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  9. I'm sure it would be a great gun. Does she plan on hunting anything else? Or shooting clays? I bought my son a mossberg 500 combo with camo synthetic stock. Comes with a rifled slug barrel, and either a turkey barrel with choke tubes or a ventilated rib barrel for wing shooting (can be used for turkey too). A great value for under $500 out the door.Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  12. That happened to me in three of my spots this yr. As hard as I hunt, I can't be everywhere at once. Still frustrating as hell. Lol You can see my stand here too. This guy is standing right where I shot my buck yesterday. And this guy is 30 yds and closing from my stand on the edge of turnip field. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  14. My son and I doubled up this morning on some nice bucks. He shot his 7 point at sunrise in the hardwoods. He came off a cut bean field and gave him a 30 yd shot which dropped him. Big bodied deer with some good mass and long beams. His biggest. I shot my 9 point at 8:05 in the thickets. I set this stand second day of bow and haven't hinted since. It was a 30 minute walk to get the 200 yds or so off the main trail into the stand. There was deer in front of me as soon as I got into the stand. I could hear the slow crunch in the brush all morning but he just wouldn't come out. I couldn't hold it anymore, and got the old pee jug out. That's all it took, I looked over my shoulder and hear he comes at a full sneak, trotting to my lane. I put the jug down, grabbed the gun, and stopped him. Dropped him in his tracks. My son and I were only 150 yards apart. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  20. Nikon makes a shotgun scope with ballistic reticle to be used with sabot slugs. It is an amazing tool for long range shooting in my shotgun only area. I sight in 2" high at 50 yds and the reticles allow for accurate aiming at yardages out to 250 yds, I believe. Pair this combo with a range finder and your effectively shooting at rifle distances. I killed two deer last year ( my first yr with this combo) at 110 yds running, and 150 yds open orchard. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  21. I'm looking for a used flasher for my son to use this upcoming season. Let me know what you have and how much you are asking. Thanks
  22. Some pics from another spot I haven't been in since early bow. The turnips are turning out nice, probably 75 acres of them. Little foggy here Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  23. Same design as mine, without the cross brace. Admittedly I bring way too much on the ice and before I can use the wheeler, this helps tremendously Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  24. Missed a giant doe tonight @ 20 yds. Stupid branch!! Third time from that stand in as many years I've hit a branch and missed the deer. There were three of them in a group with no buck in tow. Hmmm. I guess I'll drown my sorrows in blue light and bacon wrapped back straps Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
