  1. The same is true for red fox. Every time I see a red fox, I see deer soon after. That's why I don't shoot them during deer season. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  2. Good luck guys. Hope your all strapped in. I'm on daddy duty tonight. Cooking up some venison Salisbury steaks for dinner. This should earn some brownie points for for Treestand time this weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  3. I plan on hitting Oneida pretty hard this year. I had a blast there last year. Honeoye was rough to me last year but I'm sure I'll be back for more punishment. Just need some ice!! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  4. That's what I was looking for. Thanks sk8 Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  5. I have an hds 7 so the ice pack is out. How is the interference and usefulness in say 15-30 FOW? It's going to cost me about $250-$300 to set it all up in a gear bag with ram mount so I can mount on four wheeler for GPS on the way out. I think we fish the same waters a lot (honeoye, silver, Oneida) Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  6. Anybody use there hds on the ice? Just looking for some feedback before I spend the $$ on all the parts Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  7. If u have a brushless 18 volt drill just buy a 5 or 6" lazer hand auger and drill attachment. You'll save some $$ and some pounds Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  8. Get the frabill trekker thermal. Two man flip over. I have the non thermal version and wish I had thermal. The coating wears off the inside and the fabric gets weak, plus it has a ton of condensation dripping off the ceiling while running the heater. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  9. I agree completely. They get old and mature for a reason though, and most hunters will never see them.Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  10. Lol!!Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  11. That's awesome. I trap after hunting season and the thought of sitting in a recliner with a rifle on my lap, watching some tv by the fire waiting for the motion detector to go off is heaven compared to what I go through. Kill them all!! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  12. You are exactly right. Supporting your family should always come first. And to do that, it usually involves having a job, and that takes time. I started my business when I was 19 and spent many years married to it. We survived on button bucks, does, and ramen noodles most winters. Lol. It was only a few years ago that I was able to finally enjoy the time that it allows me.to fish and hunt. My parents and my wife's parents were slaves to the dollar. We swore to never live like that. I only produce jobs from April to November. I could be rich if I worked hard all year but I don't want that. Time has become so much ore valuable than money. Good luckSent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  13. That is your call entirely. When you're ready, u won't even have to question it. I've killed enough small bucks that it just doesn't do it for me anymore. I would rather film them in hopes they make it to year 4 or 5. I have 45 hrs in the tree this past week alone before I had an opportunity at the one I shot yesterday. My wife HATES it, but it's an addiction. Last year I didn't get out as much and I ate my buck tag for archery. Legacy is spot on, if it's meat your after, the does are there for the taking. Once u decide to hunt a mature deer, it's a whole new experience. It's like hunting a different animal really. You can't think the same way as early season or hunt over food plots. Now is one of the best times, especially if u have a 5 day period to concentrate on nothing but hunting. Get in the brush, use some Antler Ice, blow that grunt call, and wait. IT WILL HAPPEN. 14. Thanks again. Maybe I'll see u out there this year. I'll touch base w/ you on ice shanty. I need some local advice on ice conditions since I use my 4 wheeler to get out there mainly. Good luckSent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  15. Thanks. Are u the choo-choo from the Oneida Lake Diehards on ice shanty? I started ice fishing there last year and LOVE it. 2 1/2 hr ride but il be there every weekend in January. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  16. Me too. Www.built-righthomeimprovements.com Gotta love being the boss and taking time off to hunt Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  17. Are u a contractor too? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  18. Marcum lx3tc prob best value. I've been using mine for 4 or 5 years now. Adj zoom is key for fishing suspended fish. If u have the coin Marcum Lx7 or 9 have all the bells and whistles but IMO not necessary. Better to get the Lx3 and spend the extra $$ on some quality rods and reels Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  19. Thanks guys. Good luck to everyone out tonight. I'm taking a break, watching some football and having a few cold ones. My son is out with his Papa and already having action. Hoping he connects tonight. He has learned how to let small bucks pass this year and hoping he gets a nice one too. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  20. After seeing the pic of the monster in front of my stand yesterday, I hopped back in there this morning. My son had action as soon as he climbed up, with a big buck (maybe the guy from the camera) chasing little bucks out of the brush behind him. He said he could hear him grunting and snort/wheezing. As the sun started to come up I did a series of trailing grunts and immediately had one crashing around in front of me. He came out about 70 yds away and headed straight at me with the hair on his back standing straight up and head low. I knew by his body he was mature so I started to draw. He caught me at half draw and looked at me through the branches. After 20 seconds or so, he turned broadside and started heading out in front of me. Once he turned his head I came to full draw and settled the pin on him and there was one branch in the way. Had to get on my toes and that gave me just enough room. THWACK!!! He took off back to where he came and stopped at the edge of the woods. He did a little stumble, fell over and died right there, 40 yds from impact. The Muzzy took off the top of his heart. And jellied both his lungs. A nice wide 10 point with split brow tines. He dressed at 219 lbs. That's a Yamaha Grizzly 700. What a tank!! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  21. Yes he is. If he's the same one, he will have a scar on his right shoulder from me trying a straight down shot on him last year (dumbass, I know but it was a split second decision in the thick stuff). Big beautiful 10 pt. has to be 140-150" And my son wanted to hunt with Papa this morning so I walked 45 minutes way out to the swamp and saw nothing. I hope I can sleep tonight Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  22. I should have been in this stand in the morning instead of watching the squirrels in my swamp stand. This is the bruiser I had at 70 yds a few days ago. My son saw him tonight at 80 yds. You can see my stand in the pic, he is 32 yds where he stands and getting closer. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  23. Thanks man. Struck out tonight. One lonesome doe found her way to my mock scrape at last light and decided she liked the smell and freshened it up for me. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  24. Ray, It happens to me a lot too. I was able to harvest a nice 130" 8 pt a couple yrs ago while it was still pretty dark, but that was on a field edge. In the woods, u never know what's in the way at that twilight period. This spot is only about 75 acres with mostly thickets and maybe 5 acres of hardwoods. The does usually stage here before heading to bed in the am or going to the fields at night. I have one stand smack dab in the middle of the thicket that I will sneak into for an all day sit but the rest are on the perimeters. A roads border two sides. He didn't bust me, just kind of disappeared into the twilight. So I'm back out here with my son hoping to catch him cruising into the woods again tonight. Haven't had much response to calling yet this year, not like past years. I think the heat has the activity slowed down to just seeking for the most part Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  25. I snuck into a small hardwoods stand surrounded by thickets on 3 sides this morning. Bean field on the west. Bumped a few deer at the beginning but managed to sneak into my stand by 5:45 alright. It was game on as soon as I pulled my bow up. I could hear deer walking in the woods. A huge bodied deer made his way straight to me and stopped broadside at 13 yds, and I was tempted to shoot but it was way too dark. He worked his way around to the edge of the thicket and by then there was enough light to see a wide, thick rack to go with the massive body and neck. All I could do was watch him disappear into the thicket. Another small buck skirted the edge shortly after, a coyote snuck by just out of range, and a 5 pt came in off the bean field, passed by 30 yds from me and headed to the opposite thicket (I got some film of him). I'm kicking myself for not shooting that big one, it was an easy shot. My buddy had a hot doe around him this morning and passed on 5 different bucks that were following her. He said she had her mouth wide open and looked beat from being chased all night. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
