  1. It's a little warm out today but I decided to play hookey and got out to my stand about an hr ago. I'm in the same set that I sliced the shoulder of a giant 10 pt a week ago Sunday. I checked the camera on the way in, and saw that 4-6 doe and a nice young 9 pt came through right under my stand at 8:30 all ready. About to start tickling the horns together and see what else is patrolling this massive thicket. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  2. My son Tyler scored his second 7 pt of his short hunting career yesterday. Had a chance at a larger buck 15 minutes before but it heard him stand up. The larger buck chased this guy out of the thicket and right to him. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  3. I'll be back after him this weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  4. I called in a massive 10 pt last night with a little grunting and a snort wheeze. Came right down the ditch in the picture on a string right to me. Sad to say I took one of those straight down shots trying to fit one between the shoulder blades and just sliced him down the front right shoulder. Had to decide fast whether to shoot or let him walk right past and into the thicket. Followed his blood this am just to be sure. Never laid down, never ran at all. 5. I had a horrible season due in part to a new job this yr. However when we caught, this spoon dubbed KS Special, did most of the damage. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  6. I hunt a 26 acre honey hole in WNY. It consists of mostly thick brush. A beech, hickory, and oak filled hardwoods is in the far left corner, surrounded on 3 sides by brush. Then corn field to the west, road to the east, and winter wheat north. The deer filter into the woods at last daylight and feed on the nuts before heading into the corn. I always hunt the wheat field side in the am on a SW wind during the rut and shot a bruiser this past yr scent checking the entire field edge. It's super important to hunt only the perimeter of the property, and never go into the bedding. Quick and quiet entry/exit trails. And stay in your stand until it's completely dark to avoid busting deer arriving late. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  7. Have u tried Hornady SST? That's what I shoot out of my mossberg Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  8. Got him three days after checking my camera. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  9. My sons friend caught a tiger muskie in olcott last yr so I don't see why they couldn't be in Braddocks.
  10. That's what we were missing battle hammer. Had one good rip on the rigger but lost it a few seconds in. The kings have to show up soon.
  11. I have only been out twice in the last 6 weeks. The fishing has been just horrible once summer set in. When my buddy texted last night i almost told him no and enjoyed sleeping in. Since he had nobody to go with i told him I was in. We left my boat at home and went out on his Starcraft. Got setup about 7:00 in 60FOW in front of microwave tower headed east. We ran a brown program with 2 riggers at 40 and 60 with free sliders, 2 wire divers out 111 and 150, a 300 copper and 7 color core. Took our first few fish off the riggers. Hot spoons there were Candy Corn, and Carmel Dolphin. Then we got the Copper to go a couple times with the King Slammin spoon. Switched the SD on the starboard diver out to mtn dew echip, hammer fly once the sun got higher and hit a small king. The 7 color went at the same time for a double and had a nice steelie on the other end. Only the port diver didn't take a fish. Called it quits around noon and finished 10 for 15 with 1 king, 2 steelies and 7 browns. All but 2 small browns released to be caught another day. I don't fish for browns from my boat as I'm always hunting for kings but I had fun today
  12. I've been a contractor for 15 yrs. Building barns, roofing, siding, etc. ALL corrugated steel roofs leak eventually. And the polycarbonate panels degrade, though not as fast as fiberglass. Just trying to help another by passing on some real world experience.
  13. I would not put clear panels in the roof. Only a 10 yr warranty on polycarbonate panels and the sun weakens them eventually. Definitely dont use fiberglass. Steel roofs leak as it is. I would install them in the top 2 feet on eave walls if necessary.
  14. I'll be out this weekend. It's been three weeks since I've been out but haven't missed much. Hasn't been good for weeks but should start picking up by the weekend. It's getting to be prime time. I'll try to post some live reports if I get anything going
  15. I paid $225 plus shipping two months ago. Asking $175 shipped. Its been sitting on my desk for too long, and I can't return it.
  16. Keep these reports coming guys. Its nice to see the fishing is starting to pick up again. Hopefully I will be out Sunday for the first time in 2 weeks, and have a report to add here. Sucks living 5 minutes from port and not having time to fish.
  17. Run them deep. I usually run them on Mag divers on a 1 setting out 260-350' when the lake is setup. Absolutely deadly for me on kings last yr. I think most of the guys nailed it as far as speed, 2.3- 3 mph is what I end up running. Maybe Crazy Yankee and JB will chime in on this thread since they have the meat down better than most
  18. U will be just outside of my favorite spot, Milearm Bay. Fish the rock faces at the entrance to the bay for crappie (leave some for me for ice season), the weed edges inside the bay hold bass and pike. I catch some decent smallies in their too. Good luck
  19. 30# Maxima Chameleon. Almost invisible underwater and the most durable mono I've ever used. I used to fish the Niagara River where the smallmouth will dive in the rocks and break off all the time. Once I spooled with Maxima, I never looked back. I used 8# for smallies and 20# and 30# for kings. I just wish I didn't waste so much money on the lesser lines I tried before finding Maxima
  20. We did 3 steelhead on Saturday and when we were checked by the DEC on our way in, they said we did better than most. Sunday was our first skunk of the season. Fished out to 500 FOW and back in on Saturday with no defined breaks or consistent picture. Sunday we stayed inside of 200 FOW and marked a ton of bait with a few hooks hanging around. We ran meat rigs on the bottom in 100-120', 300' copper, 7 color core. 1 and 2 color SWR off riggers, sliders, wire divers, spoons of all colors, flashers and flies. Just could not get bit and we were not alone. Best catch I heard of was 4 for 5 on steel Saturday. I would not have fished this weekend if my great uncle wasn't in from Ohio to fish with me for the first time since the 90's. I warned him of the lousy fishing but he still wanted to go, and he had fun. Pay attention later in the week, if we get a SW wind for most of the week, the fishing should heat up
  21. Black meat pounding deep, evil twin, king of sting, war machine. And I had Bob paint this up for me and its been catching most of my fish so far.
  22. Call Northwoods outlet in Michigan. They have Berts track and rod holders listed on their website but not all lengths. If you call they will get your order over the phone, and the best price you will find. I bought (2) 24" tracks and (6) ratcheting rod holders for around $450.
  23. I have seen a lot of cottonwood as well but no fleas yet. Havent even been able to fish below 50' down yet, the water has been so cold.
