Slow bit all February and March is not starting any better
King Slammin replied to yette66's topic in Ice fishing
I agree, after starting my ice season off with a bang icing trophies of nine different species ( my pb walleye at 25.5" and a 29" pickerel) feb has been a struggle. My first trip to Oneida was a bust. Our annual trip to black lake which has always yielded daily limits of nice sized crappie and pike, produced alot of small fish and another walleye at the cost of being stranded with a blown right front wheel bearing. Chautauqua last weekend overnight we found some crappie, but they were reluctant to bite in the 30 mph gusts. Feb is always hit or miss but the constant change in pressure and frontal systems definitely made this yr a tough bite. However, it seems if u were out on the days when the fish were ready to eat, the fishing was excellent. I did learn alot this yr though. I put over 100 miles on the wheeler which opened up alot more area for me to fish. I also did alot more big fish fishing and connected on some nice pike, walleye, trout, and bass but suffered alot of downtime as well. I'm hoping the last ice period will bring some hungry fish to my bucket and then the spring king bite to be insane. -

If you are interested in a charter, Thrillseeker, tall tails, hot pursuit, Renee Anne, all out of Olcott. Take your pick, you will catch fish -

Olcott, Wilson, and Lewiston. I like mag spoons and flasher fly combos -

I disagree. The best time for feisty kings is may-June on the west end. The salmon are really feeding hard before the lake sets up. The offshore bite can be good all summer but becomes more hit and miss. On the east end the fall staging in September is a good time as well. -

attaching flies to flasher

Loop knot here too. I have the dreamweaver spiral swivels on the paddles to make changing flies easy -

Only place with bait near silver is Ackermans I believe.

Better pike fishing and bigger at silver. Find a hole in the weeds and catch the gills while your tipups soak along the weed edge (10-12') at least u can keep some of the gills from silver. Unless the crappie move in, I won't be back to conesus. Too many better options

For Sale : USA looking for Hardtop Fishing Boat
King Slammin replied to tpsball's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing-hunting/index.php?/topic/33128-1998-Bayliner-24'-hardtop-fishing/-family-boat Might put her up for sale again this yr. Once I get her on the lake and chasing kings though, I just can't bear to part with her. I upgraded one side to berts tracks and 3 ratcheting rod holders as well as installed new raw water wash down pump. Let me know if u want to check her out. -
Right in 18 mile creek Olcott. They come down to the dam and all throughout the creek in the spring. Some of the biggest I've seen around here were down the trail at whirlpool state park, at the point under the trolley line.

Glad he's well, and a good thing you guys acted fast. I definitely won't give up. The lake is beautiful and humbling when u see it for the first time. Glad I had my wheeler. I'll just have to make sure I get out there earlier to get in on that hot bite before mid ice blues. Might make it one more time this yr if action starts heating up again.

We were going to stop at Oneida on our way back from Black Lake next week but with our bad report and a bunch of others, we might hit Chaumont instead. I put 35 miles on the wheeler last weekend searching for active fish on Oneida. You were with the guy that passed out right? Hope he's recovered and back out there fishing.

7 of us are heading up for our annual black lake trip on the 16th. We always do well on the crappies up there with fish up to 15". Never seen a 14" perch from black. They are a little small on average, at least where we fish, but plentiful. Always get a few small pike and some bonus bass. It's my favorite trip of the year.

Average fish per day?
King Slammin replied to hawkeye625's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
My average last yr was 8 fish per trip. Each trip was average 6 hrs. Best day was 17. Worst was a skunk in 6 footers (I tried, people puked). We caught 79 kings with the biggest being 27.5 lbs. Caught the first atlantic of my boat, an 11 lb male. I'm still learning the captain end of things as this was my 2nd yr back on the lake with my own boat. We lost a bunch, caught a few shorts, and I learned ALOT. I'm enjoying ice fishing now but I can't wait to get back out after those sharks. -
There's the chinook divers too.

If u fish braddocks alot, a common setup for me is three tipdowns (search crappie guys tipdown on iceshanty) and two tipups (I use frabill arctic fire and they are smooth enough to catch crappie and large pike). You could use all tipups if they have a light trigger and smooth spool. I also swear by hole covers, however I make my own out of leftover foam backer from siding. I will jig a rod with a dead stick in the hole next to me and if nice enough out, a bobber rod as well. That's 8 lines in the water to maximize your spread on tough days. If they are biting well that day, 3 tipdowns will keep u busy and quickly get your limit.

Wanted Bulk ice fishing jigs
King Slammin replied to Sean Youngblood's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Yourbobbersdown.com they have the tungsten fiskas. Small but heavy and dense so they show up well on the flasher and get down to the fish. There's a ton on eBay. Too bad the Honeoye bait shop isn't around anymore. He had a ton of jigs
