  1. If those are the spots u are fishing, no need for navionics. That's poke and hope fishing. If the schools are running, you'll catch. If not, at least the beer is cold
  2. I have Okuma magda pro 45's on Shimano TDR rods. 8.5' and 9.5' I think (I run two per side) No need for a Twilly tip. I have two seasons on them with little to no tip wear. I run 19 strand torpedo wire, it's pretty forgiving. Just cut out the pigtails and kinks every so often. If u have the $$ Tekotas are nice. Just not worth it to me, so many other things to buy
  3. There are plenty of reputable guys out of Olcott and Wilson for spring king fishing. I am blessed to fish out of these ports each spring as I live here. Vince at Thrillseeker is a friend of mine and is consistently on fish all yr. Look him up and if he has any openings, you will not be disappointed.
  4. First u are going to want to get some navy blue and orange paint to cover up that awful green and yellow (go Bears!!!). Now it should be more than ice worthy and pretty snazzy looking. Make sure u use ice braid as it doesn't absorb as much water as reg braid. I would use a bit stronger of a floro leader as those eyes and the pike u will catch as well have some pretty sharp teeth. U can use a couple hooks spread out if u want too but it's tough to land fish caught on the bottom hook when u have to be careful not to catch the top hook on the ice. Be sure to set up on a structure break (weed edge, sharp drop off, rocky bottom, etc) and early morning and dusk are the best.
  5. My father in law shot a doe with a t/c shockwave (switched from power belts due to poor groupings while practicing). The shockwave never opened. We pulled the bullet out of the shoulder and could use it again.
  6. Merry Christmas to all. If this offends you, I do not apologize.
  7. U have to have 3 or 5 posts. It's a great site. Been a member since 2009 and met a lot of great people and learned a lot as well
  8. I got chased up a tree by a pack when I was a kid playing in the woods. Another time I was walking to my stand and turned the corner to a field edge and a pack was eating a doe 15 feet away. I scared them as much as they scared me. I shot a big gobbler a few yrs ago and as soon as I dropped him a coyote came around the corner after it. This yr I jumped a pack right under my stand in the brush, had two chase off a big doe at last light, got into the path of a hunting pack when leaving another of my spots and they let me know they didn't like it. I hate the bastards and will be doing my best to thin them out.
  9. Try trapping them. It's fun to get to your set and see a nice dog in it. You'll get bonus reds and gray fox as well. They are smart so the fun for me at least is figuring them out and being smarter. Good luck. A double from last week only 40 yds apart.
  10. 35 whelen huh? Probably does the job quite well. I hunt deer with a .480 Ruger handgun. 325 gr. Hornady XTP.
  11. Love my Beckmann net from Capt Larry. Extendable and hook proof.
  12. I have to agree with Tim. I don't even bother fishing much into September. It's not worth it. You can catch all the steelhead u want but I'm always in it for the kings. September here in the west end is for trail cameras and tree stands to get ready for bow. As a kid in the 80's and 90's the Fall king and brown fishing was stellar but its changed.
  13. Super accurate out of my old cva optima. Never had an issue. However my father in law could not dial them in from his tc. I think he's just getting old. Lol
  14. I love my marcum lx3tc. Can zoom anywhere in water column, not just bottom zoom. This is key for suspended crappie. Great service too as my transducer needed replacement. Had it back in less than a week.
  15. Ground isn't even covered in olcott/newfane.
  16. I have an HDS 7 that marks my 13lb torpedo diver weights down to about 100' on calm days. I got it on sale when the new gen2 units were coming out for less than half price. I think it does the job well but am looking to upgrade my ducer to a thru hull. A couple guys recommended airmars B60 thruhull to replace my stock transom mount. My buddy has the HDS12 gen 2 and its amazing. I just can't spend that kind of coin.
  17. I have a stock 83/200 transom mount currently and just feel I can achieve better results both while running at speed and trolling in waves with the thru hull over the transom mount. I have a 1998 bay liner cierra express with a fiberglass hull. My question is which transducer will work best for me? Thanks
  18. I already have one. I think trapping will be more fun and effective.
  19. Anyone have any size 2 or 3 coil spring traps in decent shape they would like to get rid of? I've been seeing WAY to many fox and coyote around this yr and thinking about starting a trap line.
  20. Check out Sportsmans guide. Decent hang ons for cheap. I have a few of the small ones but have since started buying the next size up of guide gear stands. If u join the buyers club u can save even more
  21. Smelt are super tasty. A little bit of work cleaning all the little guys but worth it. A good pair of scissors and a lot of beer makes it easier.
  22. Good job on filling the freezer. Unfortunately it's survival of the fittest and the young ones aren't very fit or smart and are easily killed. My son has taken two yearlings this yr. I gave him a pass as its only his second yr. After butchering many yearlings in my life, I feel it's not worth the time or a tag to harvest one and have told my son the same (from now on) but can't condemn any one else if they choose too. Maybe they will feel the same after butchering s few of their own. I do agree on the multiple arrows sticking out of it being distasteful, however. Anti hunters don't need much to use against us these days. Happy hunting
  23. White pearl sd with a mirage fly. Mtn dew crush e chip hammer fly were best for us last yr.
