  1. 19 strand for me too. Just cut the bad out every so often. 2 seasons in and I still have prob 975' on the reels
  2. I think it's natural for someone from the country to fear the bad things that happen in the city. My wife and I go to Chicago every other year and take the el train all over and walk around at night. We were timid at first but have found most people to be very nice and have made friends with every visit. With that said, I'm always aware of our surroundings and carry a pocket knife. Everywhere we go. Have fun in NYC, but if u want some real pizza, go to Chicago:)
  3. I have shot a lot of mature does including one that dressed at 197#. Old Greyface we called her. Passed her up during archery a few times but took her with my revolver. They all had a giant heads like yours. I couldn't see the body in your pic but I would check that scale for accuracy.
  4. With a head like that I would have thought she was bigger too.
  5. Thanks for taking out Green Bay for us Bears fans. I'm in Chicago and we got evacuated for an hr and a half but pulled out a win against the Ravens
  6. I hate missing opening day. Big deer are getting shot all over. My buddy shot this one from my stand in freedom This is my friend Randys first deer ever My son missed a big 8pt with his bow (he's 13) And I'm in Chicago waiting to get hammered with soaking rain and wind while watching the Bears game tomorrow. DAMN!!!!
  7. Not the same deer. I have many pics of the bottom one but only one of the one on top. He's prob not 160" but has to be close. 150-160" maybe. Only one way to tell for sure
  8. That looks good. Anything wrapped in bacon has got to be tasty
  9. I eat everything rare. I've pan roasted farm raised duck and rendered the fat for use in frying some potatoes. It was good.
  10. Got any good recipes for the breasts? I took 3 woodies and 2 mallards my buddy shot and breasted them out. Left the skin and fat on them. Never cooked wild duck but my family eats deer, turkey, rabbit, squirrel, etc. and ducks are pretty plentiful around here so I figured I'd see if they taste good before I start hunting them. "If u kill it, u eat it" was kind of seared into my head when I was younget
  11. Good luck to all and be safe. I'll be flying to Chicago for a long weekend of Beer tour, Food, and a Bears game to celebrate my wife's 30th birthday. I love the Bears and visiting ChiTown but I'm a little sad that I will be missing my first opening day since I was 16.
  12. Thanks for all your feedback. Need a better pic as you can't tell spread from this angle but he has the tine length and main beams. I've been staying out of there since I'm tagged out for archery but ALOT of people hunt the adjoining properties so he's got a long gun season ahead of him. My good friend got his first ever buck and it was a beauty. After convincing him to get it mounted, I took him over to Gary at Backwoods Taxidermy to get started.
  13. All the pics I post are from multiple small properties (26 acres or less). Alot of orchards, corn, beans, and hard mast around each of them.
  14. Great shot. Ahhhh the rut. Short lived but so exciting.
  15. Headed right for one of my stands. I sat until 10:30. Guess I should have sat there in the evening too. I think he's pushing 160" if there's a 10th tine in there but it's hard to tell. It's the only pic of him. Got quite a few of this guy though and had him at 40 yds but I'm tagged out until reg season. What do u think?
  16. I was looking at Marcum vx-1 for under $300 new. I have the lx3-tc and love it so was leaning towards this for my son. Figured I would see if anybody was getting out of ice fishing and wanted to sell theirs before buying new.
  17. I would have to say u are spot on with both. Only way to know for sure is to put an arrow in him. Good luck
  18. I need one for my son so he stops taking mine. Let me know what u have and how much u want. I live near Olcott
  19. It has been an up and down season for Tyler, my 13 yr old son. After shooting a 7 pt on opening day last yr, this yr has been ALOT harder. He saw 10 doe and a giant buck opening evening. He missed one and grazed one that night and experienced his first letdown as a deer hunter. That setup proved to be spoiled as we saw nothing but squirrels the next few times there. We switched it up and I put him on a food plot we've been saving. That night three do came out and he was sure he hit one from 30 yds out. When I arrived to help him look, I found a clean arrow. He was so disappointed again. In the next 2 weeks he watched as 5 of his friends tagged out (2 of them girls which is so cool) I killed a nice buck, and I killed the doe he grazed opening evening. We hunted hard this weekend and saw a lot of deer, heard bucks fighting and grunting, but it didn't come together until tonight. Tonight, on the food plot he missed a doe earlier in the season, he saw 2 big doe, a 4 pt, a 6 pt, and this button buck which was the only one to give him a shot. He made a great shot taking out both lungs and slicing the heart from 28 yds. We followed a fantastic blood trail 30-40 yds to make the recovery. He's a happy hunter now. Unfortunately he didn't keep his room clean so instead of texting his friends all about it, he'll have to do it the old fashioned way in school tomorrow since he's grounded from his cell phone
  20. Great job Dad. That's how it starts. He'll be hooked for life now. And you'll have a future hunting partner. My boy and I spend alot of time together in the deer woods and now I get to listen to his hunting stories. One warning though, it gets really expensive when buying two or three of everything. Lol.
  21. Thanks Vince. My son had a nice buck come running from the soybeans into the hardwoods on the 28th but he stayed just out of his range. Just before dark that night, I had the pleasure of taking a 2 1/2 yr old doe at 12 yds. She hopped into the field and fell over. It just happened to have a small slice above its front elbow. Must have been the doe that my son, Tyler, grazed opening evening. Trying to get Tyler on the board now.
  22. Great ending to the story. I was hunting late in November in 9n and came upon a bunch of does all herded together heading for the field to feed. I picked out a nice big doe, settled the cross hairs on her and rolled her with my 7mm mag from 75 yds away. I watched her drop, spin around, and take off. When I got to the spot, it looked like a murder scene. We tracked that deer for a few hundred yds into a cedar thicket, lost the snow that was helping keep us on the trail, and eventually lost the deer. I couldn't believe it. Sometimes the deer just have an amazing will to survive.
  23. We get together for a coffee or a BBQ and a few beers here in newfane. Some of us talk on Facebook as well.
