Welcome to the area. I've lived in Newfane my entire life and fish out of Olcott as well. My boat is in storage for the winter but will be out chasing Kings once the winter weather is gone. I own Built-Right Home Improvements here in town if u ever need any work done. -
Meat rigs/cutbait:What's your take? (Discussion)
King Slammin replied to Sk8man's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I ran meat for the first time this yr. kept it simple using 11" echips in hammer time, mtn dew/crush, nuclear green, and white/ pearl. My wife got her largest king on a 500' copper meat rig that she fought for an hr and 20 min. We caught many fish on them this yr, and sometimes it produced our only fish on tough days. We also lost ALOT of fish due to break offs with the prerigged 30# leaders and had alot of hit and misses. After I had a friend out for his first trip and we broke off 5 screamers, I decided to retie all my bait heads. I tied tourney rigs with 50# floro and have had great success since. Meat will always be on my boat. -

Cut out the inner loins that afternoon and put them in a bag with some Dales seasoning to marinade a bit. Grilled them whole over hardwood charcoal to a juicy med rare. Served with fried potatoes and onions, peas, and smothered the loins in mushrooms and onions. Fresh baked rolls to soak up the juicy goodness. Damn, now I'm hungry

I have an older optima, one of the earlier inlines. I don't use it much as I'm burnt out from archery and I hunt with my .480 pistol during reg season. I load 100 grains of 777 and use the 195gr power belts. This was the recommended load at the time for this gun. I would check to see what the manufacturer recommends for your particular gun. My father in laws Thompson center doesn't like Hornadys but shoots power belts well.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure he was the boss in that block of woods. At least from what I've seen. Now I have to shift locations and plan a strategy to get this guy. I've been after him for 3 yrs now and hope he's still around and just as big. I placed a camera near my stand in that block about a week ago hoping to catch him cruising.

A few days ago I posted a pic of a buck I got on camera. Well this morning he fell victim to a well placed muzzy. The wind was out of the SW. It was perfect for him to scent check the woods I was sitting on the edge of before he went to bed. He came down the edge of the plowed field behind me instead of the trail I was looking at, 20 yds into the woods. If he didn't break a branch before he got close, he would've snuck right by without me knowing. I drilled him at 13 yds at he turned and ran back the way he came and out of sight. I had a cup of coffee and calmed down, sent a few BBD texts and climbed down. My buddy met me where the buck went into the woods and we followed a bubbly red blood trail for 30 yds until we found him. Not the biggest rack (122 7/8") but he dressed at 212 lbs!

I am in newfane and go to little ridge archery. Roy really knows his stuff. He will try to sell u a Hoyt as the best bow money can buy. I have always been a Fred bear guy myself since I got my dads hand me down years ago. As far as hunting bows go, in my opinion, u just can't beat them in value. I purchased the Bear Strike 3 yrs ago and LOVE it. It's small axle to axle and fast enough to use a single pin from 30yds and in. I'm 6'5" and have a 31" draw length as well.

After an unsuccessful morning hunt, I decided to check a camera I haven't been to since opening week. Must have seen 10-12 new rubs and 5 fresh scrapes on the walk there. Many different bucks and does on camera, but this guy was consistently in the area with pics on 6 different days. Even have him chasing off a smaller 8 pt. and a half rack. I hope he makes one last mistake for me tonight.

MORAL SUPPORT FROM FELLOW G-MEN FANS

I've been a bears fan my whole life. The 90's were a tough stretch with many 3-13 seasons. At least the Giants have two championships in the past 5 yrs. I have a lot of friends that are Giants fans and they are feeling your pain. -

Want to stop these mass shootings? Eliminate gun free zones. None of this "SAFE" Act crap will save a single life either. In fact, it makes us citizens less safe by taking away sensible means of protection. Just another liberal fool rushing to make headlines without analyzing facts to actually reach an intelligent solution. Don't be scared of the black guns LongLine. They shoot one bullet at a time just like the pretty wood ones

Keeping it simple and adding 24" Bert's track and 3 rod holders to the port side. Added them to starboard side earlier in the year and I love them. If I get frisky I may add a thru hull ducer for my hds7.

What happened today is a great example of why we oppose gun control. Think about it for a minute. The shooting happened in DC, with guns that were illegal in DC. Therefore he was able to attack people that were unable or actually not allowed to defend themselves. Would you attack someplace where the man standing behind you might have a .45 ACP in his waist? Makes it a little easier to do some damage when there's nobody shooting back. This is how well gun control works

ALL the studies prove gun control does not reduce violent crime. Even the one Obama had the CDC report on last year has proven so. Make no mistake gun control is only about control. If you don't see this then you are part of the dumbing down of society that has gotten us where we are for the last 5 years.

The lack of good fishing reports and strong winds have closed the book on fishing lake o for us aboard the King Slammin this yr. I was late putting the cameras up and still not done setting stands for the upcoming season. A lot of work to be done in the next few weekends. A few smaller bucks and slot of does have been showing up on my cameras in all locations, but only one or two bucks that will make THE LIST. I have a few pics to share to get you all pumped for the excitement of bow season. Here is my 13 yr old sons view from his stand in Freedom, NY. And a couple bucks that happen to be passing by No pics of him yet this yr but he survived and I'm after him this yr. I had him at 75 yards twice last yr but couldn't get him any closer with shooting light This guy fell victim early last yr to a well placed arrow from my friend Dave. I guess he's off the list. Cameras are soaking til the weekend and hopefully will have more pics to share.
