Fishing Deep with Two Downriggers
King Slammin replied to afterschools's topic in Tackle and Techniques
After marking alot of really deep fish the last few times out, I went from a 4 rigger spread to a 2 corner rigger setup. I just switched from 10# fish shaped weights and offshore pinch pads. to (2) 15.5# Atomik torpedoes with blacks releases and blacks stackers sliding on the rigger cable. I can stack my riggers where I want them with a toothpick into the blacks to hold the stacker on the line. The Torpedos tracked real nice on our first trip out, and I had way less blowback. I read my fish hawk x-4 probe down 140' all day. -
This is the 4th batch this year. It never lasts more than a few days. It's sooo good on salads, in quesadillas, or just by itself on the boat as a snack. Thanks for the recipe Musky Bob. [ Post made via iPhone ]

Olcott 6/20 am
King Slammin replied to King Slammin's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
After all the hard NW winds we had, your guess is as good as mine. Check your temps. The colder water may have been brought closer to the surface. If you find them, shoot me a pm. I doubt I will be out until Sun at the earliest, so I won't have a report up anytime soon. Good Luck. -

Olcott 6/20 am
King Slammin replied to King Slammin's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Things will be different by this weekend. Steady weather and good reports out of wilson suggest fishing will be good both west and east. We just found a pocket of 48 deg water down 100 ft surrounded by 52 deg down 100 ft everywhere else. Everytime we entered our 48 deg pocket, rods started screaming. We lost our spot by 11:30 with the WSW blow. Your best friend right now will be your down speed/ temp unit to find subtle temp breaks and keep on top of the nasty currents in Lake O. -

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: King Slammin ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 6-16 Time on Water: last couple hrs Weather/Temp: beautiful Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: calm to 1 ft Surface Temp: 67 at 350 FOW Location: Olcott LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 6 Total Boated: 3 Species Breakdown: 2 steelhead, 1 small King Hot Lure: white w/ green dot spinny, hammer fly and Mag Diehard on dipsey Trolling Speed: 2.5 to 4.0 SOG Down Speed: 2.5 to 3.0 Boat Depth: 300 to 400 Lure Depth: 25, 50, 75, 100 on riggers. Wire out 140 and 240 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Took my 12 yr old son Tyler and his teamate Paige out after their baseball game on saturday. My wife and 5 yr old son Charlie decided to join me. Paige got her first king off the high diver in 325 FOW on a mag diehard. Tylers dancing steely came next on the white w/ green dot spinny, hammer fly down 45 over 350 FOW. He was an acrobatic one. Charlie got into the action on the same diver as paige's with his steely. Nothing for the adults aboard on this trip. Same story as most of my trips lately, marked alot of streakers, but wouldn't hit. We did have one huge streaker take off after hitting our 100 ft rigger, but was gone just as fast. Watched him come from almost 200 feet deep. I love my HDS unit!!! Flys were terrible out there. My Dad is coming in this weekend, and we plan on fishing all day Sat and Sun. Hopefully the bite is better (for the fish, not the flies).

Crossing Cables..?
King Slammin replied to JakeyBaby's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Were they at way different depths? Wicked currents out there sometimes. Can be following the same heading for miles and look back to see all the rigger wires leaning to one side or the other. Might have had one caught in a current and the other in the eddy above or below. -
Wanted. Older cannon control board

Big and ugly? LMAO! Your Walmart/Dicks/Basspro/(insert generic chain store here) bow is 30" axle to axle and isn't even in the same zip code as far as engineering and quality goes. BTW the Element is 32" axle to axle, 2" is hardly huge. How can you even try to compare a $300 bow to a $1100? One that weighs over a pound more as well? AND last I checked, deer don't care what the bow looks like that kills them...lmao. You get what you pay for I guess. The Fred Bear bows are definitely not Walmart bows. They are built for hunters, not 3D shooters or someone trying to keep up with the Jones's. I know the Carbon Element is considered to be top of the line when compared to most bows, but since I don't shoot competitively and I hunt hard during archery season, I would rather have my Bear Strike in my hand with top quality arrows, and enough coin in my pocket to miss a few days of work to sit in my stand.

Hunting bows and competitive bows are 2 different animals. I shoot a Fred Bear Strike for a few reasons. It is compact so I can move it around in the tree easily. It has a 7 1/4" brace height so it is forgiving. It has dual string suppressors so it is quiet. I shoot Easton Axis arrows spined correctly for the bow. It isn't about how fast the bow shoots when hunting deer as all modern bows have more than enough speed. The Strike is rated for around 314 IBO but I'm only getting around 267 at 62 pds. I have blown through 5 deer in the last 2 yrs with this setup. If you focus more on these factors instead of having the fastest bow I think you will be much happier with your purchase [ Post made via iPhone ]

Can you use 500 ft of wire with strong backing?
King Slammin replied to DJ 17's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I split a spool of torpedo 19 strand and used powerpro as a backer. Combined the two with a nail knot. I had the power pro already and the 1000' spool of 19 strand was $50. Two rigs spooled for $50 sounded better since I spent a ton on equipment this year.
