Does the state launch fall under the closures?

Mercruiser v8

I know a guy that has a complete running cobra 350. I'm not sure if it will work for him. I think he wants $500 possibly less. You can hear it run if you want. -

I mean it was something my dad always did and he had Penns that are older than me that still work great so I did it myself. Not sure if it's required or not but my reels have lasted through a lot of fish without any hiccups.

Slow weekend 5/20/17 & 5/21/17 Fished this past weekend, it was a little on the slow side. I managed 3 for the whole weekend and 2 big jack perch. Eyes were 4lbs. and 6lbs. perch were 13" and 10". Bay rat, and Thunderstick Jr. were the hot baits. Water level is super high still, front was coming through so I would imagine that is what contributed to the slow bite. Had a couple buddies out there that got skunked so I didn't feel too bad with the low numbers. Had a few nice runs then off. All in all it was nice to be out on the water again first time since last September so I was due for some fish! The bit wasn't really consistent caught 1 around 4pm on Saturday, and the other 2 between 9am and 12pm. Heading back up on Friday to get at her again for the long weekend, hoping I can get my son out there with me and get him on a fish or 2. He almost has the reeling down just needs some help with the the rod.

My father in law had the same thing happen then the gear for the line counter stripped somehow. He and I both have been running the 30 series magdas and had no issues. I did buy a couple used ones from a guy knowing they needed work but after some drag washers and line guide pawl they were silky smooth again. They are simple reels to work on yourself if you need too. My Magdas and Penn Warfares are my Salmon reels and have been abused but keep ticking. Make sure no matter which reel you get to back the drags off when storing them long term. I don't do it when I'm using them every weekend but over the winter they are all loosened up so the spool can free wheel.

Don't go with the Magda 20s the drags are sticky. With walleyes you want smooth drags.

I have 4 seasons on my Cabelas Depthmaster 2 30 series reels the older style that most people hated. They started as Spring Browns and walleye now just walleye reels. The new depthmasters are made by Okuma if you compare the Okuma Magda to the depth master they are identical. I would pair them with the Downrigger 8'6" Okuma classic Pro GLT rods. I have this setup and have caught a lot of fish without any issues. I also don't leave my gear out in the sun and weather when not in use. I regularly fish alone or with my 2 year old so I am netting fish and running boards by myself and these rods are big enough to give me a little extra reach to pull that fish into the net but not too big where it becomes cumbersome.

Trailer - Glad I decided to add two more bunks
Chas0218 replied to jimalbert's topic in This Old Boat
I would probably do the opposite if he doesn't have 10% the trailer weight on the tongue. If he adds tongue weight it will reduce the amount of stress added to the axle. It's like supporting the weight at 2 points vs 3 points. I would also make sure the trailer is level while towing. The way trailer tows will be completely different when setup correctly. -

Torsion axles work great but they put a lot of stress on the mounting plates and frame compared to the leaf spring style. I would replace the axle then take the old one to a machine shop and have them straighten it and weld it back together and strengthen it. I would keep it for a spare so if this happens again. Take the boat and trailer to a weight station you might be surprised on how much your setup weighs. I have an older boat with dry foam dry weight is 3100lbs. I figured with all my gear it was around 4200lbs. I went and weighed it she was 5100lbs. a lot more than I thought the trailer itself was a lot more than I figured. I'm not trying to tell you you're wrong but you might be surprised. I'm betting you are closer 3000lbs than you think. BTW the motor is over 500 fully dressed I would say right around 700lbs full of fluids. If your fuel tank is full your probably looking at a little more than 50 gallons either way that's 315lbs. minimum. That right there is 2465lbs. no gear no trailer. trailer is probably around another 400lbs. that puts you at right around 2900lbs. Add another 200lbs. for the lower unit and hardware puts you at ~3100 with no gear. I'm guessing you are pretty close to the max weight of that axle. -

Yes but it is not a chemical it is a dead organism. If you look at the article I posted it goes into detail that there is no re-entry time, 100% safe to people.

i/o's sometimes are starved for oil at low rpm. A lot of guys run bigger socks to rev the engine higher and allow the Better lubrication. Other than hours on the big motor, more often oil changes, security of your big motor goes down, there are actually a lot of nice perks to a kicker. I'm thinking it will not kill the native muscles. It seems as though it shouldn't affect plant or wildlife being a dead organism. Here is an excerpt from http://marronebioinnovations.com/zequanox-achieves-100-mortality-for-invasive-mussels-in-minnesota-lake/ : Composed of dead cells derived from a naturally occurring soil microbe, Zequanox controls mussels in all life stages. Unlike toxic treatments, such as potash and copper-based solutions, Zequanox is biodegradable and noncorrosive. In addition, Zequanox is highly selective to control only the invasive zebra and quagga mussels, is effective in a broad range of water conditions and according to the EPA, its active ingredient has “low toxicity and presents little risk to non-target organisms.”

I have 4 riggers on my boat (8' beam) but only run 3. I don't bother stacking rods, cheaters are much easier and work great. I have ran up to 2 cheaters on 1 rod without much of a mess. I run the 2 outside straight away from the boat then the rear one towards the middle of the boat. That one also has my temp sensor on it so it usually has a little more blow back anyway.

When to change up your spread?
Chas0218 replied to mnort22's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I give it a half hour then I make a change to 1 rod let her sit for half hour change another rod. Usually by the 3rd or 4th change I decide on whether I'm staying in that location. I don't usually change up all my lures or colors knowing what works in set conditions and area is an experience thing. I can tell you I have friends that fish and enjoy going with me. They like to try "New" colors and whatever but my lures that are old work great. I usually tell my one friend that likes to go that he can have any 2 rods in the spread to do what he wants the rest get what I want. Usually I outproduce him 2:1 on my lures vs his. There are times fish just don't bite. -

That is a torsion axle for you. They are great if they aren't overloaded or near their max. I would highly recommend looking into a heavier torsion axle to replace it or add another. They are easy to add as you can see they are just U bolted on. EDIT: Just saw the specs for that axle I would be adding another if it were possible. -
Story of my life up on the St. Lawrence. I find it so funny how everyone up there thinks they have to run in the channel with the barges and all the weekend boaters or they will run a ground. I try to fish as far away from the channel as possible.
