That NE end should get worse as the weekend nears, they are calling for SW winds for Sat, and Sun for the opener.

I'll let you know what the launch looks like over at Long Point State Park I know that will be a little out of your way. They had it open early last year to collect their money on the fisherman that use it before they allow camping. Kind of bull crap but I have come to expect that stuff from NYS.

Water Levels in Dexter/Sackets Harbor.
Chas0218 replied to Todd in NY's topic in Open Lake Discussion
No problem, didn't think you were. It's tough to believe the water fluctuates that much. My winch motor on my rail system got caught in a surge couple years ago water came up 2 feet while we were all sleeping. Got up the next morning to fish and the motor kept popping the breaker. Took out a screw and watched the water drain out. After that nothing surprises me anymore. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Another EZ Steer question, welding connectors to outboards.
Chas0218 replied to SmellsLikeFishNH's topic in This Old Boat
I just used some big stainless band clamps from homedepot, some aluminum angle, and some heavy rubber from tractor supply. Build a bracket to fit around your outboard then clamp it with the band clamp or 2. I'll see if I can dig up some photos of mine. -
I think the marina in watkins does canvas.

First remove prop and look for fishing line around prop, 2nd thing drain it and run it a few times. Check after running to see if it was condensation or water intrusion. If it's water intrusion after running it the will be milky. I thought I had water getting in my lower unit one season as I didn't drain my oil but instead just checked to make sure there wasn't any water sitting in the bottom and it was caused by condensation. EDIT: NVM you already figured out it's leaking. I would just pull the prop shaft housing and replace seals and run her check her after a few trips. Worst that happens is you get more water and have to drop the lower unit and replace upper seals too.

When I think east end I am thinking anything NE of Fair Haven. The fish in the NE end of the lake definitely make you work for them. I would go days with only one or 2 kings but as soon as I go out of Sodus I am greeted with awesome numbers of Steelhead, Kings, Browns (not as much as the other 2) but the fishing from Fair haven West is much better. I usually concentrate my efforts on the walleye on the East end, easier for me to find and catch than Trout and Salmon plus they taste better. Laker fishing isn't bad on the East end but if you like fishing for table fare then I would go elsewhere.

Right now with the high water I doubt you will get anywhere near hitting the shoals. In mid July I can still motor over the shoals no issues usually the shallowest it gets is around 9'. The only place you need to worry about is near the river/chuamont bay boat launch, the SW end of cherry, and Reeds Bay they get skinny fast go out 300 yards around them and you will stay in plenty of water. Stay out towards the Stay towards the SE 1/3 of the channel going into and out of the river and you will be fine.

Yeah, I was looking into canvas for my current boat but I'm trying to get away from my boat. She needs quite a bit of work and will likely be cut into pieces for easy disposal, the motor and parts sold or also disposed of. I love my current boat but for what she needs it isn't worth the investment. Stringers are shot, hull has longitudinal cracks because of the bad stringers. The repairs would be expensive and on a 1981 boat I won't ever get the money back out of her. Not to mention the stuff that I want to do will be a very nice down payment on a new boat. There are a lot of upgrades to my current boat but that is about all she is worth the used price of the parts. Main reason for going aluminum is the longevity factor. If I'm spending a lot of money $20k+ on a boat it is going to need to last 20 years or more (at least the hull). I bought her in 2011 and has served me well for the past years surprised she has lasted this long.

Haha no that is a shore well for freshwater drinking, so I hope there isn't any brown trout in there or he has some problems.

They are, the Ocean Pro was/is another contender for me. I want something in the 22'-26' range. We currently have a 23' cuddy and it is nice to have that area to get out of the weather but is a lot of wasted fishing space. Those west coast alum. boats make good use of the space they have. The rigid frame with canvas in my eyes is the only way to go, the hardtops are nice but the ones I have been in are hot during the summer months and that is primarily when I fish. The removable canvas is nice so you can basically have full sun or stay out of it where with a hardtop you have 1 option.

Depending on the boat you can save up to 10k. The 222 Offshore is about the same price as the 202 they sell on the east coast. That is about $6k-$7k less so in reality you would be saving around 4k after shipping. I have saw the 222 cheaper than $40k as leftovers but you looking at an average of $2k for shipping it to the east coast. I'm not sure the $500 is worth my time driving 40 hrs. one way to pick it up. If you do the math it's about $6.25/hr. I could be a lot more productive home at my house but it could also be a family trip make some stops at cool land marks spend a few days in between just checking out the rest of the US. I guess I'll have to run it by the wife to see what she would rather do. This is still a few years out but it's worth the effort to watch the market and see what is out there in the mean time.
