Mepps #4 spinners red white blade work well for pike, I like no skirt but the skirted one works pretty good too. The walleye like them too.

Betting that will cost more than an autopilot but there are benefits to the girlfriend the autopilot can't do. -

Tsunamis on the Great Lakes? This is a new one...
Chas0218 replied to Sk8man's topic in Open Lake Discussion
We had one 2 years ago on the East end if you want to call it a tsunami, I always called them storm surges. Anyway we went to bed around 10pm boats left till the morning on their rail systems. Came back out to in the AM and the electric winch motors were filled with water a chud line that came up at least 2' overnight then receded. There was a bad storm on the west end of the lake and the water level actually dropped at our place about 8" in just a few hours. People had jetskis that came off their lifts boats that were on the other side of the bay pretty crazy. -
If you really wanted to try it you could fill up that front compartment and lift the bow nice and high and see if water comes out the back. I have to agree with Gill, there has to be some sort drain for it to get back to the drain plug. I know Bayliners weren't the greatest boats but I would think the builders knew better than that. Unless of course they were related to the Titanic builders.

New reels for copper but need some input
Chas0218 replied to Chas0218's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Skipper do these numbers seem right for a reel that holds 310 yards of 25#? I was going to put a 4 color on this reel but was't sure if it would fit with 300yds of 30# PP. The numbers below are what I calculated using your spreadsheet after finding how much 30# line the reel can hold. CONVERT YARDS TO VOLUME 250 57.5 4.35 -

Mine used to be pieces of rotten wood...not a good thing in a fiberglass boat. I am lucky that my bilge is sealed off from the deck having a shelf bailing floor. Any mono or rubber bands on the deck cannot make it into my bilge unless you put it there.

From what I have heard this is the Pro/Am you want to start with the atmosphere of the tourney is great. My father and one buddy are great mates they generally keep their mouths shut unless they know something is going to cost me money (i'm a bit frugal at times). We have a new guy joining us I have never met him but I guess he is knowledgeable around riggers and such so we will see. My dad has fished lake O but it has been a while for him but he is getting back into the groove. I am hoping with the pre-fishing he will find it is like riding a bike. I generally fish walleye and have in the last few years been transitioning into trout and salmon (same concepts just deeper and different lures). I have to say I am excited to give her a shot I saw there are a lot of boats that do well each year and I am hoping I can hold my own. Fishing is a game of luck but experience does help sway the odds in a person's favor. Rick, I would put in for Pro but just joining the tourney it is a little intimidating on its own. Basically participating in a tourney I feel you are wagering you're a better fisherman than the others. I don't think I can say that about any of the Pros you all put the time in and are rewarded for that time.

Always try a coat hanger there could be something blocking it. If it has 2 bilge pumps I would be willing to be they aren't connected with a tube. My boat actually has the bilge pumps under the cuddy because of the way the V is actually lower in the water than the transom when floating. Either way I would consider adding a 2nd pump for extra insurance in the rear engine bay. I speak from experience. My proline developed a crack down one of the chines and was letting in some water (I found it later) my only bilge failed and I had no idea the boat was full with water until the waves were breaking over the transom filling the bottom of the boat. It was a scary situation but I made it back to the dock. I learned my lesson and added a 1500gph plus the little 500gph. I also check the pumps every time I leave the dock kick them on make sure they are spinning then off we go.

Out at the lanes? I doubt the kings will be in for another couple weeks at least generally they start to show up in numbers around July 4th. Although there might be a few around early. The trench gets hot around August when they start to stage. With the early warm weather this year the lake is warming faster and the kings are migrating faster but I bet around July 4th they will start showing up.

I hope it isn't the prop shaft bearing, does it make a grinding noise at all or just vibration?

It almost sounds like you have a nasty twist in your downrigger cable. Have you used balls on the downrigger cable in the past? I am thinking that if you used balls without the fin it was twisting while in the water adding a wicked twist to your cable and now that you are running a torpedo it isn't allowing that twist to come out. I mean I could be wrong. That is the only other thing I can think of, 5* of angle shouldn't make much of a difference especially if the other side of the fin is straight.
