  1. That isn't what I wanted to hear haha. I was planning on running it on a big board probably about 100' away from the boat.
  2. I was going to use 30lbs. but was afraid it wasn't going to be strong enough. I used your chart and added the Atommik copper and the 40lbs PP to it just to get an idea of what would or wouldn't work. It has been very helpful especially when I was looking at spooling up some leadcore. I think you swayed me into going with the 30lbs. Allowing a little more backing and to get that flouro on there. I'll run the numbers at work tomorrow on the computer to see what I can fit more of. How much room do you think that flouro will take up?
  3. I wish DEC would allow people to use them as bait. I would love to throw a minnow trap off the end of my dock and use these little buggers for bass bait. I have used dead ones for small mouth and let me tell you if fish are around it doesn't take long for them to gobble up one of these things. Not for nothing but I have a friend that has caught a bigger sized one of these things and ate it. He said very similar to Tilapia.
  4. Was there oil in it? Sounded really dry! Not sure if the motor is blown or cracked block either way ebay and google.
  5. Couldn't agree more. People should contribute to get a little info.
  6. I have been running the numbers on copper and what I am thinking is putting 400' of 45# copper on a squal 30. Now this will allow me 650' of 40# PP backing (all according to Skipper's copper calculator) I am also doing up a 300' copper but that will allow me to run 900' of backing but this isn't the one that worries me that 400 does. So i guess my question is: Will 650' of backing be enough in most instances?
  7. Just take a file to the front edge of the prop if you are worried about it. You shouldn't be taking off enough to make a difference balance wise.
  8. You guys are killing me!
  9. I did but then the fish marks disappear. I guess I will need to experiment a little more with it.
  10. Yup double uni on all my gear and all terminal tackle tied with palomar.
  11. Can you take a photo from the back of the boat looking straight at the rear? If the kicker prop isn't in clear water (cavitation plate below the hull) it isn't low enough in the water. Mine is only a 8hp and pushes my 23' fiberglass into 3 footers without much of a problem. I originally had my motor mounted directly on my transom next to my main motor and it wasn't low enough in the water and would not push the boat worth a crap.
  12. So I like that I can see my rigger balls but seem to be running into an issue. When I put them down my FF picks them up too good, it shows a strong return and turns them into the bottom. Now I was only doing this in 25 fow with 16lbs. weights so I would imagine it would be better (lower strength return) at deeper depths but is anyone else having a problem with this? I am running a Raymarine A68 with CHIRP (down imagining).
  13. So are you looking to do a shoot thru hull or a true thru hull. I have a 23' fiberglass boat and have a transom mount and don't loose bottom. I mounted mine 1/4" below the bottom of the boat and track bottom at 35 mph now it isn't a clear picture but I don't loose bottom. Now if I could only get my rigger balls to not show up as good.
  14. Haha didn't go out, you think I'm nuts? Usually depending on the wind direction you can fish the bay the majority of the time but that NW wind is brutal.
  15. Not sure on the diameter I think it is the same as the bloodrun I'll look into it and compare. I was looking through the bloodrun site and are they in business still? Most if not all the links on their webpage are broken links or don't lead to what is pictured/listed. Researched a little and the atommik is .037 where the bloodrun is .033.
  16. Pap, that is why you don't store your rods with the drag tight. Best thing you can do is storing your rods long term or overnight is to loosen that drag. I have done it since my reels were new and I feel like that is why the drags have lasted as long as they have. My Depthmasters are silky smooth and rival my buddy's coldwater reels. I am an Okuma guy and own 18 Okuma reels mostly of the Magda Pro 30s but a few spin casting but next year I will be phasing out my Magda Pro reels for the coldwaters. I have done regular maintenance and drag washers in a few but after a set of drag washers they are back to new. I had a bad taste left in my mouth after dealing with Diawa on a brand new Saltist (line counter wouldn't index just clicked and the drag was all wonky right out of the box) they wouldn't do anything for me even after they lost my original receipt (the copy wasn't good enough). After going around with them for 3 months over 1 reel I just gave up and took the $75 hit and ordered parts, fixed it then sold it. I didn't trust it after everything I went thru and vowed never to intentionally buy another diawa product.
  17. I was going to run the atommik copper haven't heard bad things about either brand. Haha my wife just looked at me like I was nuts I was laughing so hard. Dually noted on that point.
  18. There was only 4-6 white caps, where is your guy's sense of adventure? I have been out in worse but it was 80 degrees with 70* water. A little splashing wasn't that bad.
  19. Yeah I was talking 400' of 45# copper. I don't really want to run 600' I only usually fish 150-175 fow so I don't really have a need for a 600' copper nor do I have a reel for it at this present time. I figured a 250' and a 400' setup would be enough maybe phase out my leadcore. I would also be running these on big boards (not that it makes a difference).
  20. The 20 series of the DM2 had horrible drags and nothing would fix them but my 30 series DM2 have 3 seasons on them and other than a little moisture in the line counter they have been trouble free these pulled double duty as my first salmon reels and were abused by some nice fish. I think the DM2 were made by diawa (a little redesigned accudepth).
  21. I was just browsing the cabelas site and I saw the DepthMaster III reels. I use the II for walleye and they have been great but there was something about these new ones that looked familiar and sure enough I think Okuma is making their reels. You be the judge but they look very very similar to the New Magda DXT reels. The only difference I can see is the line counter reset. http://www.cabelas.com/product/fishing/fishing-reels/trolling-reels%7C/pc/104793480/c/104760180/sc/104652180/cabela-s-depthmaster-reg-iii-trolling-reels/1750480.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Ftrolling-reels%2F_%2FN-1100307%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104652180 http://www.okumafishing.com/product/view/reels/linecounters/magda-pro-dxt-linecounter
  22. All you guys that run copper what do you find to be your most productive coppers lengths in 100-150 fow? I want to get a decent copper setup going this year and looking at doing a 400' of 45# with 650' of 40# PP backing. I am planning on running a 10 color leadcore setup along with the copper. Any advice is appreciated.
  23. I guess with all those rigs you're selling everyone is going to have a full wall of fish and well fertilized gardens!
  24. Run some dipsys they outproduce riggers 2 to 1 on my boat when king fishing.
  25. I am assuming it was the tank leaking not a line. Did you use the UV dye?
