  1. You want the platinum plus if you want what they call sonar charts (most detailed chart available). I am in the same situation right now but don't want to drop the money they want for new charts.
  2. I agree it didnt make a difference. I didn't hunt the first 2 weeks for that reason.
  3. Look into the bay rats, they have a very nice wide wobble great for the cold water spring conditions. Once the water starts to warm I switch to Reef Runners that have a tighter wobble.
  4. I have switched from Storm to Bay Rats. Once Rapala bought them out the quality went down the drain, the bay rats have a very nice wobble that the walleyes just can't resist.
  5. Rapala have never been that great in quality, I have had numerous eyes pull out and bills break off. Never had a hook failure but not surprised the ring let go. They are owned by Rapala draw your own conclusions, I have never had a newer Rapala last more than a couple seasons. I run mostly Pre-Rapala Storms, yozuri, Bay Rat, Matzuo, and Smithwick basically everything but Rapala, I stay as far as possible away from Rapala.
  6. I run them about mid ship maybe a touch closer to the bow. It helps keep the bow down in rough seas. In my signature you can see the the orange buoy on the tow line. Here is a little bigger photo.
  7. Well I have a question, is it hydraulic steering or hydraulic assist? If it is hydraulic assist adding a kicker and steering with your main will be difficult.
  8. Don't go plastic. I have experience with 3 different types before I made the switch to my great lakes planer system. I had some of those nice cabelas ones threw a dipsy rod in her, good thing I was hanging on the rod holder twisted in the base and almost went out the back of the boat. So I bought some scottys thinking better name better quality, yup they were but 2 weeks of heavy use guess what? I heard a crack looked back to see my rod going out into the lake, I caught the butt with 2 fingers and held on for dear life and got her back. 3rd set great lakes planers, this will be my 4th season on them and no issues. Don't cheap out unless you like buying new gear often.
  9. On my 23 footer and 150 outboard I run 2 18" diameter bags when I need to get slow with the big motor. Those amish bags are the cat's meow from what the people say about them. I just run some cheap bags I picked up at a sportsman a few years back.
  10. It almost sounds like a battery but I had a starter do the same thing on my truck (GM 5.3L). Make sure your connections are tight and cannot move I have seen a loose connection do that exact same thing
  11. Yeah I would, I get that nice puff of blue on every startup too.
  12. It was because he was able to get the boat's bow out of the water with the added transom weight. Like they mentioned you need the motor lower in the water.
  13. Socks will work I run 2 on my boat when I need to slow way down. Buckets will work too, run 1 off each side.
  14. Those old johnnyrudes sometimes had low compression long as they are the same across the board you are fine. It could be the compression tester reading low. Either way if she is running fine then you're good. I need to check my timing underway this year I haven't checked it since I owned it but she still pushes the old 23' boat 38mph. I'm afraid to check the compression I don't want to know if I have a low cylinder. Is yours cold blooded like mine? She starts hard and does a stutter every once and a while at idle but once you open her up she runs like a raped date. Mine is an 1988 150 VRO
  15. Yeah the e7 Yeah the e7 does that, I just want to be able to control my a68. Unfortunately my a68 isn't wi-fi so the e7 will be my gateway into the a68. Also picked up the e7 for $326.99 at www.BOEmarine.com Yeah I can't see why? I mean as much as I do for her it is like my payment.
  16. Well I just pulled the trigger on another Raymarine head unit. This time an e7 unit, I am planning on networking this with my a68. I can't wait to have these 2 units so I can have a dedicated gps unit and sonar. I bought the a68 and going split screen has been a royal pain but now that I have the 2nd one it will make life so much nicer. Of course I don't think the wife is going to see it this way. Better to ask for forgiveness than permission!
  17. being an i/o i doubt trimming will make that much difference in speed but turning/staying straight will really suck.
  18. It will change the speed. What kind of motor? Changing the pitch from 19 to 17 won't make that much of a difference.
  19. So I don't know how to take this. I think it speaks volumes for when DEC tried to shove the anterless only zone down hunters throats. At least in 8F where I hunt, there were a lot of pissed off people about that. The first picture still sucks, too bad more people won't pass those little guys.
  20. Great thanks! I'll give them another shot maybe run them on a little shorter lead.
  21. Mine stick out somewhat. I usually keep the bottom one almost parallel to the boat then add a little twist to the next. I have also ran them straight out perpendicular to the gunnel. Only thing you have to watch is the tow line for big boards.
  22. I can't leave hooks laying around with my 1.5 year old or my dogs on the boat. I'm anal about that crap the last thing I need is someone getting a hook in the foot. You guys make it sound like you leave hooks just flying around the deck or whipping in the wind.
  23. Good seminar, with the scatter raps are your go to colors just natural or do you like the fire tiger brighter baits? Not arguing with your success but I have tried them in Cape Vincent area and never had any luck on them I was thinking maybe I'm not fishing the right colors. I was running the silver w/black back and silver w/blue back.
  24. Here fishy fishy!
