Yeah I had some spooks and more natural colors in the past. Last year I ran some purples and UV that I thought was going to be the ticket was purple with black dots. I bought a few more patterns this year to try. I am trying to match the bait fish size but they seem to really like my stick baits so I might jump it up to my standard spoons. Yeah I run the stinger scorpions they seem to work at catching other fish.

I'm with him ^ that's what I did and wouldn't have it any other way. I have been looking at newer boats but unrigged for a lot less moeny than rigged boats. Also consider if you buy a rigged boat sell off any/all gear and get what you want or need. Personally I love my 2 stroke and wouldn't trade it for a 4 stroke. I get about the same gas mileage while cruising and use a kicker for trolling. Don't rack up the hours on the main engine if possible it will save you more in the long run in maintenance and possibly a powerhead.

I'm glad it isn't just me. I have caught other species on the rigger/spoon combos. I know of a few other guys that have pretty consistent catches with the spoons they just don't like to share techniques as much (old timers thinking I'm taking their fish). I did see on Erie they utilize night crawlers but for me I always caught jack perch and bass on tipped spoons and harnesses. I just put them back into the box or ran them clean I got sick of resetting lines for other fish I didn't really want (although those jack perch do add up). BTW did I say walleye? I meant sunfish and bluegill..... Silly me there aren't any walleye in Lake O.

There is the depth raider that works the same way just digital readout.

If I'm not mistaken the impeller does not have anything to do with water intrusion on my outboard the impeller housing is plastic with a metal cup inside. There is a seal under the the flat that the impeller rides against. There are 2 seals on the driveshaft under that along with a gasket on the back of that plate. Most likely bad prop shaft seals. Check for fishing line around the prop shaft.

Yup just spent another $50 that free shipping is like getting a spoon or 2 free. -

So I have been fishing walleye for a few years and have thrown spoons out on the riggers but never had any luck. When you guys run them what do you run for set backs? I was in the 50' range with smaller stinger spoons.

Trolling should be fine just keep it further towards the fore grip so your line doesn't get into the zip ties. I forget your on a pontoon, my deep vee has some tall gunnels so I don't get too concerned about it. I used to let the green guys set lines but got too many tangles. I just set the auto pilot and let my veteran fishing buddy set one side while I set the other. Salmon and trout is a little harder setting up because certain lines have to be set first or it makes it very difficult.

I have done the same thing with 1/2" copper pipe insulation and survey tape, put the insulation over the pole wrap the survey tape around once zip tie the tag tag end then wrap the rest and zip tie other tag end. Simple and quick, I don't use them anymore no real need if you are helping the person bring the fish in. I could see it on a spinning rod but they won't work on a bait caster. Make sure when you cinch down the zip ties they are on the opposite side of the line because the small tag end can catch the line. I had it put a nick in my mono and I lost a fish along with an expensive yo-zuri.

Most guys that troll religiously have the bow mount and kicker. The kicker is for propulsion and the bow mount is for steering. Are you a multi species fisherman or going to fish primarily salmon and trout? Look into the great lakes planer systems for your needs. They are removable when you don't need them, I prefer vertical rod holders over the horizontal to keep the gunnels less cluttered and room to add downriggers.

Now that is ballsy, right out of his driveway. I hope he gets it back intact.
