  1. I sell perch every year. Basically I sell them to a guy that gives me a certain price based on live weight and the need for the fish most buyers will not accept fish smaller than 7.5"m it isn't worth their time to fillet any smaller. If he has an abundance of fillets the price goes down, and generally I don't sell them and instead put them in my freezer. I only do it to supplement the cost of bait and some gas money. On a good day I can catch 30 lbs. by myself this is live weight not fillets now most of my in laws do the same. Some days we do better some days worse. One season (about 7 years ago) my wife and I had a good season and were able to catch 100lbs. in a weekend and did that for a several weeks. It was nice as I was in college and this was my beer/gas money. This is a way of life of there and many people do this for a living so outlawing this would in fact put people out of a job. Any game fish is already illegal to sell why not find a way to catch or prevent those catching and selling fish in NYC.
  2. Talked to a couple guys yesterday and there is already 2" or 3" of slush on the ice up at the head of the bay. Fingers crossed ice is out by 19th. I was thinking of heading up and throwing in my docks and rail system in.
  3. What type are the ones on the sides behind your seats? I could use a couple of those just single sided! Rick, Do you make the 24" shorty single sided and are they backed with something to keep hooks from coming out the back?
  4. Really that is all you run? Wow I have been really overkill when laker fishing. I was running 4 dipsys, and 3 riggers. I definitely need to scale back. You only run the cowbells and spinnys or do you run a spoon on one rigger?
  5. Super jealous! Congrats on the nice fish.
  6. Yeah I would imagine after the warm weather this coming week and rain I bet that ice will be thin. He said the fishing was slow all weekend. He lost 2 nice fish right at the hole (so he says) but those were the only fish he had on all day. Sunday he caught a few perch but nothing to brag about.
  7. Which part did you fish? He was out towards cherry.
  8. Load her on the beach, just make sure you have a winch on your tow vehicle!
  9. Yeah I have a set of Uni-trolls with the fixed 4' booms and use the 16lbs. troutman weights and never had an issue. I do get a lot of exercise some days.
  10. So running a thumper with 2 riggers is a bad idea? I was going to run 2 riggers, thumper down the middle, 2 dipsys out the sides. I know I could run more but I don't want to clutter things up too much.
  11. Put in some new rivets coated in 3M 5200. Not too difficult you can get the rivet tool from harbor freight and I think just about any tractor supply will have the rivets. If not go to a marina they will have some.
  12. Looks like it is getting there! My buddy fished Chaumont and there is about 4" of ice left. After this week with warm temps and rain she is going to be about gone especially without any temps below freezing.
  13. Why not go with one of those control king setups? Then you have yourself a turn knob and only wires to deal with instead of cables. I am betting they are also cheaper than another control box.
  14. When you trim up or down do you need the tabs? Look into smart tabs if you don't want to have to worry about adjusting.
  15. Raymarine A series are great units. The A68 has CHIRP with high def sonar it is truly amazing the amount of detail they show.
  16. My best bass: My best King (21lbs.): This is the fish that got me started on salmon! My best Walleye (12lbs 9oz.): This is the walleye that made walleye fishing my passion. My best Brown (12lbs.+): This is my first brown caught on my boat. My 2nd best brown (10lbs. 6oz.):
  17. Once you tie the palomar pull on it. I mean really pull on it and see if it fails. Everytime I tied a palomar wrong or it wasn't wet enough I pulled on it and seemed fine as soon as I wrapped the hook around something stationary and gave a little harder tug she broke. It is frustrating tying a knot 2 or 3 times and it breaking but would rather it breaks on land and not that fish of a lifetime. The palomar and improved clinch have been tested and they both hold over 90% of the rated pound test it is tied on. I find the palomar much easier to tie with gloves on or stiff senseless fingers. Here is a link to a guy doing real world test. If you google palomar knot test you will see a bunch of different results that all say pretty much the same thing. I am sharing this at the data point if you want to watch the entire thing feel free but here are the meat and potatoes. https://youtu.be/PFMcEFwwZxQ?t=1m52s I will also mention the san diego jam knot is supposed to hold more than the palomar. It is tied similar to the improved clinch but the wraps around around the outside of the loop.
  18. My plan was to attach to the swivel already on the line or pinch style release.
  19. I get that but wasn't sure drag wise if it would get to 100' down.
  20. I usually use itellicast and fishweather. Fish weather has never been wrong but only forecast a few days ahead. It also has live wind data. http://www.fishweather.com/
  21. I was planning on running a 1# or 16oz. Would cowbells work? I was thinking about running cowbells with cowbells, will the 1# weight be enough to get 100' down?
  22. Anyone running a thumper rod? If you are are you running a spoon on it or something different? I was planning on making a couple molds for thumper balls and wanted to see what you all ran behind them. Also does anyone run them on a board? I was thinking it would be nice to get it out away from the boat.
  23. Yeah I am thinking 8 of the 20's and 6 of the 30's. The 20's would be used for downriggers and 30's for wire and thumper rods.
