I was just looking on cabelas and they have 12 packs of the barnes and noslers. That would allow you to reload a small batch and figure out which you gun likes best. Nosler: http://www.cabelas.com/product/shooting/reloading/reloading-bullets%7C/pc/104792580/c/104761080/sc/112555080/bullet-proof-samples-nosler-reg-starter-pack/1879614.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Freloading-bullets%2F_%2FN-1109589%2B4294740679%2FNe-4294740679%3FWTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU Barnes: http://www.cabelas.com/product/shooting/reloading/reloading-bullets%7C/pc/104792580/c/104761080/sc/112555080/bullet-proof-samples-barnes-reg-starter-pack/1879613.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Freloading-bullets%2F_%2FN-1109589%2B4294740679%2FNe-4294740679%3FWTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU

yeah my re-loads are a little hotter than the hornady superformance 130gr. I haven't ran them through a chrono but they are moving. Have you tried the nosler e-tips, the ballistic tip solid coppers? I was wondering if they will hold up better.

I will say that any shot under 100 yards with my .270 the bullet fragments using the remingtons or the noslers. The deer last year had several fragments I had to pull out of the opposite shoulder. I hit him at 60 yards.

You won't be disappointed with that gun, Howa action on a sako barrel it's a deadly combination. I took a small buck at 355 yards with my .270 and nikon 3-9 x 40 bdc. Love the gun and it just straight out shoots.

Might not be the same but my Tikka did not like the Barnes. I found my best group with the Nosler hunting ballistic tips and plain jane cor-lokts. Is it the t3 light? With that twist you should be ok with that load. It takes some experimenting with different loads. Sent from my thinking chair...

I think that first one is 5.5 or older, look at the nose length, gray in the face he is older than you think. How much of a sway back does he have? I have to believe by looking at his photo he is older. I guess I could contribute. This is the only good picture we have of him. Looks like a 10 point not sure of width or real mass but looking at his photo it surely has some beer can mass.

Nocturnal by gun season really? Do you hunt where there is a lot of gun hunters? I hunt in 8f and see deer all thru gun season a little on edge but still walking around. It literally sounds like WW3 gun shots everywhere and usually 5 shots per a deer. In my younger years before my range finder I have shot at deer and missed just to see that same deer the next day. Archery doesn't scare the deer nearly as much as gun season. I have harvested most of my bigger bucks during gun season and not archery. Here are a few examples. You just have to wait them out and be between the deer's bedding area and food. I have shot 4 others during bow season that are comparable to the 8 point with1 9 point being a tad bigger.

Just curious, does anyone else have a hard time with the accu-triggers? I can't get used to pulling a trigger then boom it goes off. My tikka's trigger breaks like a glass rod (Howa action on Sako barrel) . I really haven't found any better action my father's 700 is nice but has a little travel before the gun goes off. I want my gun to go off when I put pressure on the trigger, not go off after I start pulling and waiting for it to go off. My father in law loves his 7mm-08. What is really nice is that they make reduced recoil rounds in remington cor-lokts for younger generations. It helps them from becoming afraid of the gun.

The vanguard wasn't free floating? How old was the gun, was it a first run model? The ones I have seen are all free floating. I was trying to decide between the vanguard and Tikka and went with the Tikka. The only reason because it felt nicer in my hands. I have shot 2 different savages and they all feel like junk when I shot them. One was a .300 win. mag. and the other a .270 winchester don't get me wrong they looked good but wasn't impressed with the way they shot or the actions. Sent from my thinking chair...

i might be wrong but 25-06 might be a barrel burner. The velocities are thru the roof i think. Not that its a bad caliber but longevity is what i look for in a gun/caliber. Vanguard is a nice rifle, and the Tikka is comparable if you havent looked at one. I want to get my hands on a howa. I have been throwing around the idea of a 25-06 myself.

Pretty funny stuff would be neat to see in the woods. I used to have a picture of a bear in front of my game cam I hung a drip bag with some vanilla extract and he stood up to smell it. Probably about 8' tall pushing 700lbs. the picture was of his belly and a set of bear balls. I'll have to look for it on my computer.

My father in law always gets pissed when I start to pick out all those little things on the TV shows. He always asked why can't I just enjoy the show? I would highly recommend getting a camera on a rub to see when the deer comes to rub and see if there is a pattern same with licking branches. One thing I'm not about to do is cut a branch down that the deer know is there and they use. It's almost like standing in camo letting them get close then jumping out at them and yelling gotchya! I'm betting they won't come back to that spot for a while.

That's pretty good our bills last year for the months of Nov. thru Mar. totaled $517 our average was less than $100/month We spend $700 on the high end for an entire year (highest over the last 6 years was $689). This is all natural gas and 1800 sq. ft. home.

Yeah natural gas is cheap get a VENTED natural gas stove and be done with it. No need for supplemental heat with nat. gas. We live in a valley where our lows are almost 8* cooler than anyone around us and normally the same to those on the mountian tops and have a small nat. gas stove. With that hard winter last year our heating bill at its highest last season was $130.

From what I heard we are in a 3 year cycle and it will be our last hard winter for a few years. I am hoping for the best but preparing for the worse. Although this year will be my first year I am going to ice fish up on the Northeast end.
