Chinook Salmon "Naturalized" (No Donations Please)

I'm in, where do I sign? -
That is the way Sonar works it picks up what whatever returns the signal first. You won't loose the bottom because it is a strong "echo" back but might loose rigger balls or other fish lower in the water column. Same idea is if you setup on a ledge so your traveling parallel to a shelf. Your sonar will read the shallowest reading as your constant depth and miss everything lower of that depth. So for example you are trolling parallel to a shelf at 80' and you know it bottoms out at 120'. If your sonar is reading 80' you will pick up everything from 80' and shallower leaving the 80'-120' unread. That is why lots of guys run across a shelf shallow to deep (perpendicular) to mark fish then setup on the depth where the fish were marked.

So the upgrade will only last 1 year meaning it will expire and put me back to the gold or it won't let me update with newer info after that year? I was hoping for something more along the lines of sonar charts.

So I bought a new ff/cp combo unit raymarine a68. It came with 2 cards, one is labeled US & Canada the other is Northeast US. Which one should i run and how many contour lines should it have? I have only a few lines but lots of numbers with different depths. I was looking thru Navionic's site and the "Sonar Charts" seemed to have a lot more contour lines I was thinking it would closer to that than what I got. I mean I very well could be missing a setting that is supposed to be turned on. I looked thru the manual and it seems like I did everything I was supposed too. The Lighthouse pre-loaded RM charts look like they actually have more contour lines than Nav. Gold charts.

Not enough mercury to worry about, I eat fish once a week from lake ontario. Studies I have read allow for 8oz. of fish per a week per a person. That means I can eat half a pound/week. Also I only eat fish caught during the summer months meaning it has lower mercury from less fat (where the mercury is held). Either way you have to die from something, you're more likely to die in a car accident than from mercury poisoning. EDIT: Unless your daily diet is solely based on fish then you might die of mercury poisoning. But who could eat fish everyday?

Not to mention when you come off plane it will most likely swamp the motor. If you have ever seen boats with jack plates you will know what I mean. My father in law has a jack plate for his 225 honda off the back of his boat and the water comes halfway up the cowl. If he mounted a kicker like above on his boat it would be under water when coming off plane.

For the price of the cable steer I would put in hydraulic steering and get the hydraulic one. It would be cheaper and you get better steering.

That would require another rod. With my method if you are limited out on rods this gets another lure in the water without breaking the law. almost like running a cheater on a downrigger.

Raymarine EV-200 Autopilot, Good for Trolling?
Chas0218 replied to landingzone's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Raymarine still makes several mechanical units in the Evolution series there are 3 types of mechanical drives: rotary, linear, and Universal Stern. I am not sure why they told you that but they were wrong, unless they were referring to specifically referring to the sport drive. http://www.raymarine.com/view/?id=579&collectionid=30&col=5916 http://www.raymarine.com/view/?id=579&collectionid=30&col=5915 http://www.raymarine.com/view/?id=579&collectionid=30&col=5917 -
I don't use in-lines in the spring for browns, in my experience they are more of a pain. In the spring usually we are in the browns pretty good and re-deploying rods is so much easier with big boards. Let back, clip on, let out, fish on, reel, net, repeat. No board to screw with when you have a young steelie doing acrobats or big brown ripping line. If I am walleye fishing by myself or with 1 other person then I will use in-lines because there is a constant pull and the fish is less likely to come off. The in-lines I use are the cabela's boards I like the releases they have over other boards.

It's really not bad usually a pike will hit the spoon or walleye hits the crankbait. If there isn't a fish on you just release it off the tow line then reel until you get the crank to the boat slowly lift the rod tip until the crank is up. Let the spoon drag in the water until you take care of the crank or take the spoon off the swivel. Takes a little getting used to but on slow days I have convinced a bite or 2 that way.

I like perch but 1 Lake O walleye can feed my family where it would take 20 perch. haha either way you can't go wrong with either. For larger walleye make sure and get rid of that brown "fat" on the skin side of the filet or it will taste horrible.

Yup noticed that last year they were talking about. Sent from my thinking chair... -
You don't need a 3 way to do it any swivel about 3 feet above the lure and a spoon on a 4 foot lead with snap swivel clip it on and deploy the crankbait first and once it starts to dive throw the spoon in. Sent from my thinking chair...

Pike don't even compare to walleye when it comes to taste. Walleye are the fish to eat and probably the best eating freshwater fish out there. Sent from my thinking chair...

You and me both. I have been running it for 3 seasons this will be my 4th and never had an issue. I have never lost a weight (knock on wood) using and have been running 16lbs. torpedos.
