anyone know if the wire is twisted around the copper core or braided? If is twisted and you use a ball style weight it might be trying to unravel itself. Sent from my thinking chair...

Torpedo cable is like coated cable but is stainless sheath with copper core eliminating the plastic coated cable. You don't have to worry about the plastic getting chafed or Sun rotted then the cable not working. Sent from my thinking chair...

So I took what little free time I have and built a new set of planer boards. I used the down times plans with slight modifications. Only thing I really changed was how far apart the boards were. Here is the finished product. I used 1x8 pine, my other boats are 1x10 and they seem to sit to high in the water which causes them to become unstable. Sent from my thinking chair...

Good luck talking to charter captians, I only know of 1 maybe 2 that have ever helped anyone out. I have a buddy that I fish with a lot and we go out 5 or 6 times together during the summer and catch some walleye, he is so tight lipped he will lie to his own grandmother about where he caught the fish. I don't mind giving out info on baits or location, BUT I did have to work my butt off and spend lots of $$$$ and time to see what worked and what didn't. I think there is a much larger learning curve with walleye fishing than salmon.

I used to cast off the piers at night and these produced much better than any other pattern.

I have been doing the same thing people offer up gas money, most want to pay more. I tell them how much it cost in gas but they almost wanna "tip" me. I am in no means making a living taking people out. I might have enough extra left over to buy a couple lures or something but if you are making $300 in a trip you might want that captians license. General rule of thumb for me is if I'm not going out or you want to make a special trip to a certain location I ask them to throw in $25/person.

Greatest feeling ever! Congrats looks like you're in the same boat as me, tournaments are going to cost us a little more in entry fees now. All worth it in the long run. Best advice I can give you is be patient, you will start to think it's easy then all hell breaks loose. Good luck buddy! Sent from my thinking car!

I have the GLP vertical quad trees and I have never wanted to change the angle of the rod holder. I love being able to un-twist and rotate and lock back in. I can literally hang off these rod holders, they are super strong, If you want to add a couple different angles he has some you can. I might buy a couple 0* holders for my dipsy rods but they aren't necessary. I have never used the big jons, I don't know of their durability I am only basing my decision off my experience of the GLP products. Not to mention customer service with GLP is fantastic.

I have several of the walker rods, they work fantastic. I always get a bunch of confused looks with these rods because people don't know which way to hold them. I believe they are called walker chinook classics. Looks like FishUSA used to sell them. http://www.fishusa.com/product/Walker-Downrigger-Rods

I know of a few people that stay in Oswego at Wright's Landing they have public restrooms and docks with electric. You can also find some nice seasonal campgrounds in that area if you would rather stay in a camper or trailer.

They say partnerships are the worse ship to be on. I too would not go in on a partnership on a camp, or boat. My grandfather used to be co-owner of a hunting camp with another guy. THe other guy pasted away and instead of giving my grand father to buy his half passed it down to his son. The son wanted everyone to pay in more and try to make a profit off all the guys. Needless to say my grandfather got out of it and so did many other guys forcing the son to sell his half because he couldn't afford it. Lesson learned on both ends. Anything mechanical is even worse to be in a partnership, I could see someone getting pissed because they have to foot half the price of a repair and they use the boat less or it didn't happen when they were running. There are a lot of things that can go wrong. I know of a couple small business partnerships that have last years if not decades but there has to be complete cooperation on both sides.

Got the ray a68 in today and looking at the screen I thought I was going to be disappointed but once I turned the thing on it was light years better than my old humminbird 717. The screen resolution is 480x800 where my old one was 320x480. HUGE difference, now I just need some thawed water. Sent from my thinking car!

Braid and dipsy divers
Chas0218 replied to fish-on's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I run 50lbs. PowerPro on 2 out of my 4 dipsy rods. I haven't had a huge problem with fleas on my braid maybe the last 6' or 8' gets boogered up but that's it. There really isn't any benefit of braid other than it being a little more forgiving for the novice dipsy user. There is a little of a learning curve with wire dipsys but nothing you won't figure out quick. I fish the East end and have also been told that the East end has less fleas than the West but I'm still out on the limb about that. -
