Amish Boards -vs- Otter Boards
Chas0218 replied to Speed Racer's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
My homemade boards haven't flipped it was a set of walker boards, I guess I should have specified sorry about that. -
You have another battery? If you do hook that up and try it, being that small of a motor you would probably get away with jumper cables and you car. I would also look into the starter solenoid.

Ya I hit the PA store on my way back when I stayed down there for the outdoor show. I noticed they didn't have squat for salmon/trout. I was thinking it was because of their proximity to any real trolling. I don't know if there is a lot of trout and salmon lakes in that area but it would seem like they carry whatever is big in that area. The hunting department took up easily half of the store (not a bad thing).

Amish Boards -vs- Otter Boards

We had one of our boards flip at the begining of walleye season. We manages to get all 8 lines in without a single tangle. You should have seen the chinese fire drill. I dont think I have ever reeled in 200' of line so fast. Sent from my thinking car! -

Okay so the bellows... I have seen ripped bellows keep water from getting in but this was only when the outdrive is the down position. This is not a uncommon thing for I/O boats. As good measure I would replace every few years no matter what. Just my $.02 happy fishing and tight lines guys!

Amish Boards -vs- Otter Boards
Chas0218 replied to Speed Racer's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
That doesn't mean they are the best...I see a lot of "professional bass fisherman" running Nitro bass boats, and they aren't anywhere near the best boat out there. I'm not trying to bash any one brand, I just hate seeing someone spend money that they may not need too. For the price of the otters I could have 2 complete copper setups. -

They say "There's nothing more expensive than a free (or cheap) boat." I bought my boat for cheap I knew it would need a lot of work 3 years later it's still running and hasn't sunk yet.

Mine ended up being about $30 but ya a lot cheaper than both. The plans are right under the Tackle and techniques sub forum. -

2 questions, I need a bit more clarity. 1) You said it was mounted in the middle of the transom is it right smack dab above the drain plug? If this is correct you need to mount it to the outside of the transom (nearest to the port or starboard side) away from any motor or propeller. 2) It sounds like it is mounted to high on the transom and is only picking up half the sonar ping because the bottom of the boat is blocking the "sonar echo".

The bass that won was 6lbs. 9oz. I think. I had a Scot's daughter's graduation so I wasn't able to fish that weekend. When is the next time you're up? I am going to be up till the end of August after this Saturday. I want to get into some walleye this weekend, I'll keep you updated. If you are lucky I might show you my mid summer honey hole...haha

I second that.^^^ Check out some of my posts we do pretty well up there. It is a true multi-species area up there. Welcome to the group!

Took these kids from long island out for the day, after they stopped getting sick they started to enjoy the trip. We landed a huge 12 lbs. Brown in front of Sodus. We were all high fiving hooting and hollering. Biggest brown we have ever caught. A short time later we had another fish on the one long island guy asks can i net this one, I think sure. Hand him the net the fish comes to the back off the boat and it's a huge brown bigger than the other. I freak while the kids is fumbling with the net wraps the lure in the trailing part of the basket. I start cussing at him telling him what to do as the fish comes UNdone and the kid scoops it up. Ended up being a little over 15 lbs. Sent from my thinking chair...

Seems like this year has been more of a spoon bite, at least according to the reports. Sent from my thinking chair...

No it was fleas, although you're right there is a lot of of the cotton wood fluff out there. I was actually pulling lines every hour to clean off what collected. Sent from my thinking chair...
