This right here is good advice. I didn't even think of that! Great suggestion.

This site will give you an idea of the current direction but speed will have to be figured out based on your downrigger lines. http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/res/glcfs/currents/glcfs-currents-surf.html

Is it water or debris that is causing the problems?

Caught these over memorial day weekend. The one morning was really spooky with a heavy fog and visibility only about 100 yards. I can't believe some of the idiots running around on plane with it that foggy. The one photo with 4 fish I had my wife with me and she had to take the picture.

Ok so I finally got the hydraulic pump installed after I remembered to pack my tubing cutter to cut the power steering lines. Got her installed, set it up, and am super impressed. All I have to do is hit the button and presto it's driving a straight line to whatever I want. I have been out the past few days in a easy 3 foot chop and 20 mph wins and just sit back and catch fish. So much LESS stress and a lot less arm fatigue. I think I actually enjoyed fishing in the rough weather. Crazy how awesome this unit is. My hat goes off to raymarine for a superb unit. Sent from my thinking chair...

I don't mean to offend anyone, I just remember my old 1960 Duracraft with low sides and short transom. A good friend of mine had a 14' Lund we fished walleye out of 7 or 8 years ago and it worked great. I would just hate for someone get hurt because someone said it was fine. We don't know everyones comfort level or expertise.

I'm with Iceman on this one. I wasn't sure if you sea trialed one yet, they are definitely a sea worthy boat. They are a good entry level boat.

I was actually hoping to get the Wi-Fi unit with ducer just no charts. I was looking at the A78 which just comes with chirp. I figured adding it later down the road would be good but the cost of the module didn't seem cost effective in the long run. I wanted wi-fi so I could hook my phone or tablet up to it for updates and such. I really wish someone would come up with a module that included CHIRP, Downspeed, GPS, and have nmea output that used blue-tooth and all you needed was a tablet with an app. You could have 2 displays for less than 1 of these high end units.

Are both Sea Swirl Stripers? Is there any way you can go with a longer boat? I have fished out of my buddies 2002 21' Striper and it is a rough riding boat, it will jar your fillings loose and that is with a johnson 150 ocean runner. I would hate to feel how bad that would be with a 250. I have fished in other 21' boats that aren't as bad as the striper. They aren't known for their ride but I would take that into consideration. Come to think of it the Trophy Pro 20' or 21' boat my neighbor has rode better.

Guys I think that slop you are feeling is the play in the servo motor not your actual steering. Most servo motors have a "dead spot" when they aren't in use and when they are idle they will "free wheel" for a fraction of a second until the wheel is moving and creating an electrical current. That electrical current is the added felt resistance in your steering with the autopilot off.

Ya that's him, He limited out Saturday and Sunday in 1 hour this past weekend. He lost 3 on saturday and 4 on sunday right at the back of the boat. He was fishing alone so he had to try and net along with steering and fighting the fish. The ones he lost he knocked off with the net when the lure got tangled.

I know my dad's 85 starcraft has flotation foam, so from then on they all must have had it. -

Also curious on the 2 Magda 30 reels w/ mono. I sent payment on the 5th and no news or package yet. -
14' just seems so small for Lake Ontario. I used to use a 14' boat for perch fishing but was only 1000' at most from shore and also in the security of a bay. I didn't use it out on the open water nor would I feel comfortable. Adding all that weight from the gear will make that boat feel very tippy and ride low in the water.

I take it they haven't found him yet? Its nuts how they haven't found his boat or any signs of it. -
