  1. Be careful running fully synthetic car oil on motors older than 1986. There isn't enough zinc and phosphorus in the oil and will cause premature wear of the cam lobes and lifters. (This only applies to flat tappet motors). If it is a roller lifter motor you will be fine with the newer synthetics.
  2. Boy I hope you aren't milking the same one! Sent from my thinking chair...
  3. I run 8'6" Cabelas depthmaster downrigger rods these also double as my walleye rods. Fast tip and good action. Sent from my thinking chair...
  4. They say this Will be the first time in 50 years lake superior will completely freeze over. Kind of interesting with all this global warming. Sent from my thinking chair...
  5. My father and I fished his 16' starcraft for many years now we fish my 23' boat and we wouldn't have it any other way. Sent from my thinking chair...
  6. I use the okuma dipsy rods and add a twili tip, I think they are 9'6" or 10'. They are a good rod won't break the bank and work well. It all depends on how often you will use them. I am a weekend warrior and can't see the need for a roller rod like a charter would. For reels I use the okuma magda pro 30 series. There are better reels like coldwater or clarions. I am partial to okuma becuase they have treated me well and have excellent customer service.
  7. Also with 4 strokes if you drop some hp it won't hurt mph so much. I bought my motor (1988 150hp Johnson) from a guy that re-powered with a 115hp 4 stroke Yamaha and noticed only 2 mph top end difference. It takes a lot more hp to increase or decrease 5 to 10 mph on a boat, just a little food for thought when/if you purchase a new motor. I believe there was a nice looking 4 stroke 150 Yamaha in the classifieds that came with controls, steering, and gauges for $8k. You may want to look into that if you can swing that kind of $$$. Also have you looked into fixing your force? You should be able to get a carb kit and maybe a fuel pump to fix your issues? It sounds like your float bowls could be sticking if you're flooding out a lot or running too rich and need to have the butterflys adjusted.
  8. I would definitely weigh your options. Is the I/O a mercrusiser? If not it is becoming harder to find OMC I/O parts, they haven't been put in a boat in almost 20 years. Older outbaords have used the same technology and seem to be around a lot longer. What do you mean it "was a v6"? Did they replace the engine with a different engine?
  9. Keep what you have unless you have issues with your current boat. I like gradys but people talk them up a lot. Sent from my thinking car!
  10. 10 to 12. 8 on boards 2 or 4 on riggers. Knock on wood no tangles for me. Sent from my thinking car!
  11. Check out craigslist. How about location so we can narrow it down for ya a little. Here are a few: http://binghamton.craigslist.org/boa/4263858138.html http://syracuse.craigslist.org/boa/4284483099.html http://syracuse.craigslist.org/bod/4300804179.html brand new if you can swing it. http://syracuse.craigslist.org/boa/4326421656.html http://syracuse.craigslist.org/boa/4258319210.html
  12. I was down there for the first time, it was an incredible show. It was great to see some lake Ontario charters down there. Sent from my thinking chair...
  13. haha I guess it goes that way for every species. I was kind of confused but we checked the time stamp and it was off by 1 hour because of daylight savings time but the date was right...
  14. So here is a couple pictures of deer that made it thru the season on my family property. The big guy somehow disappeared literally the night of gun season. We went spotting the night before gun season and saw him 30 yards from the road. He is a 150"+ 10 point seeing these photos verify he is just as big as we thought. The 8 point in the pictures is pushing 110" with the height of his antlers and mass. The rest are also a few that show some promise. The 8 point needs another couple years but that 10 will be a great deer if he makes it thru the summer months and avoids the roads. And we finally have some turkeys worth shooting. I wish I could see the size of the beard on that one tom strutting.
  15. Haha that is too funny!
  16. You guys see about the game being possibly rigged? I mean that would explain a lot of the missed tackles and lack of playing real football. Sent from my thinking car!
  17. Mine holds dipsys without an issue. I run the holders perpendicular to the boat and they dont budge. Once you set the distance apart vertically you dont really move them other than rotating the whole tube outward. Sent from my thinking car!
  18. I have the quad tree, works wonders when trolling for browns and walleye. It keeps the lines up and out of the water all while holding the poles out of the way.
  19. I am actually surprised to see as many older boats (older than 1990) you guys have posted.
  20. I have heard of people picking up walleye out of Sodus but I wouldn't be able to tell you where to start. I would look for gravel bottoms and drop offs/shoals.
  21. I ice fish so I periodically work on my tackle on blow off days and any other down days. Sent from my thinking car!
  22. I see some people don't havea sense of humor. Some of you guys need to lighten up. All my buddies and I enjoy a couple cold ones on those hot and cold days. It's called moderation, sometimes in a long day of trolling we would each kill a 6 pack. None of us would be plastered not even buzzed. We drink for the taste not too get drunk. Sent from my thinking car!
  23. I run a moor sub troll with the torpedo wire copper encapsulated stainless and haven't had any issues reading past 100'. Here is the stuff I am running, works great and haven't had any issues reading my down speed. https://www.torpedodivers.com/scart/product_details.asp?ItemNum=ZP0010 Sent from my thinking chair...
  24. My ex... Sent from my thinking chair...
  25. I have all Magnums of his spoons except a few fingerlings. Good spoons and great patterns. At the end of last season I had a monster break off a super skank mag. I watched as the pole released and it ran thru 3 other lines then pop. Never even got to pick up the pole. It snapped the leader just about the middle and I had checked all the leaders right before i left the dock. Worst part was that I only had that one. Sent from my thinking chair...
